  1. Yeah. A lot more than I thought I would actually. I'm constantly getting better though (like, a lot faster than others just because I get so into music), so I've already put a lot of my old stuff behind me. Especially anything made 5 months ago or more. Although, now that I remember there is one old song of mine in particular that I love to go back to listen to: the first song I ever finished. Mostly because of the composition and atmosphere of it. The production of it sucks (of course), but I still love it.
  2. I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to wait for multiple mod reviews, but I went ahead and changed this back to finished. I'm gonna start working on those things you mentioned though, maybe changing the groove during the chorus' and having a different pad play throughout the song. Thanks for the feedback! : )
  3. I think I'm putting this up for mod review now, haha. I honestly feel like it's close to being ready, but that could also just be me wanting to go ahead and get this song out of the way. I've done a lot since the EP version and I think it sounds good. Also I've talked with a few people outside of the WIP forum, and they think it's doing good. So that too, heh.
  4. http://www.box.com/s/b8m6ecan65clrpas36u4 Alright, so I think I fixed those strings for good. I tuned down backwards hat thing. I also turned down the velocity of some of the bells hitting, at least the ones in the lower octaves since they have some sort of harmonic on them like DaMonz mentioned. It wasn't that much of a change, but it works I think. I also tweaked the pizz string notes at certain parts. I think they're better now. Also I'll ask around what people think of the oboe section in the middle. Nobody seemed to mention that arrangement wise but I might tweak it a little bit. Also I added a more climatic kick towards the end so hopefully that works well. Uhh yeah, think I mentioned everything haha.
  5. Haha, ok, so I've finally got a new version in. For the most part, I think I did all the things you mentioned. I think the kick has the extra "punch" now after messing with the EQ a bit. It definitely shows up on the frequency bar as such. The intro drums, I processed them a bit, and added some pitch automation. I don't actually have as much pitch control as I wanted, so I wasn't able to go too low in that sense, but maybe I'll find a way to make that idea work better. Just to give it a bit of variety. The bells show up fine harmonically on FL piano roll. I think it's just the fact that they're layered in two different octaves? The same thing with the pizz strings, though I changed them up. Or maybe I'm missing what you're talking about completely? Haha. I made the drums sound better in the bridge section and spruced it up a bit. Also, for the ending I decided to bring in a filtered high hat. I was told it needed to be a bit more climatic, and I'm not sure if I pulled it off or not, but hopefully I did. Maybe it needs something else haha. And also I have a kind of sword slicing sound in there now rather than that last weirdly phased snare sounding thing I put in, so it's not as distracting but still fills out space. Hopefully. So yeah, I think I mentioned everything. Anybody else have anything to say before I put this on mod review? http://www.box.com/s/b8m6ecan65clrpas36u4 edit: oh yeah, I realized that the strings at 2:37 sound off. I'm going to render another version tomorrow with a fix, it's kind of late haha.
  6. So all I could get in was something like 3 or 4 euros. That's enough to get McDonalds right? I'm really diggin' the album by the way. This is top notch work, PD. Will there be like, a Bluetooth, or something like that in the future?
  7. A quick question.. I tried googling it, and I'm afraid I still don't completely understand. What does "processing" mean? I hear it everywhere on OCR, and I feel like I have a general idea of what it means, but I've never been completely sure for some reason. Like how halc said he used tons of processing on his last posted mix "The Great Blizzard of 9X."
  8. Yay, more ProtoDome to add to my list of musicz. Downloading now. I'm gonna try and buy it later once I find a bank to put my 8 dollars in. Oh yeah, and I love the artwork. I don't know what her name is but she's pretty rad if you ask me.
  9. Are you kidding me? You finally submitted this? Super awesome. This is one of my favorite halc tracks and i love its finally on ocr. Merry christmas everyone.
  10. I figured so I just saw the sirnuts update and thought for a second , "wait is it even on?" Thanks.
  11. So I'm just curious, the song TGH sent you for is definitely on the project, right? The one me and him did for Smurfs Nightmare? I haven't seen it on the list for a while, so I was kind of curious on it's status on the project.
  12. Hi. So this was my contribution the Mega Man 9 Concrete Man Remix Album, which I tried out for OCR. It didn't get accepted unfortunately. Here's the version on the album: Update 2: http://www.box.com/s/b8m6ecan65clrpas36u4 LATEST UPDATE: https://app.box.com/s/uslv4x4h12i0e72hrcozfmaya8y25o6m Read latest post for details. here's the source gosh i want to get rid of these youtube boxes
  13. Typical tgh song. Why don't you try doing manly metal music or something are you scared Jk I like this song for real. I wouldn't expect that source to work well for this genre but it does.
  14. I'm actually a huge fan of this. The reverbed drums mixed with the orchestra + guitar remind me a lot of the Super Smash Bros. Melee soundtrack. Like, a lot. That's a good thing though, I love Melee's music. Good job on this. A+
  15. No real title yet I'm posting this so hopefully I can get feedback as I work on this song. The problem with my last sub to OCR was that the sound wasn't "full" enough, so I worked on that. The sections are kind of cluttered together. I'm going to be sections in between, but I haven't been able to put any ideas down yet. Haha. 16. Going to hang out with a friend tonight. He has the game on the 360, I can't wait to see it in action. Super excited. edit: that was the most facebook post I've ever posted on OCR.
  17. I've still yet to get into Pokemon Black like I thought I would, but sign me up for a 3rd gen remake. As long as it has the battle frontier from emealdy, which stands out imo as the most fun area in any Pokemon game ever, ill never need to pick up another Pokemon game again. Typing this from phone so I kinda gave up on capitalization.
  18. I just saw this post. I agree with it big time though. Seriously - great soundtrack. If you could do this, that would be freaking awesome. I never played the Turok game for the GB, but I learned a lot about 8-bit composition just from listening to him on youtube. He knew what he was doing. Also I messaged WillRock. If he's ok with it then I'm on the project I guess. If I am, I probably won't be able to start until next week 'cause I have a crapload of non-vg related music projects to do, but they aren't actually full songs so I should be able to do them in no time. Edit: willrock got back with, said I need to work on quality before I can jump on. But Ill try my damned hardest to get on this thing. Good luck with getting this project started. Im super pumped
  19. Actually, all of it's music (from what I remember, except fanfares) was original. It's very unique musically, as it's pretty dark and eerie (compared to the other games). I'll pump out something awesome for you. Also, fun fact: the creator of the series, Gunpei Yokoi, also created the Game Boy. He was a genius.
  20. If it's alright, I would like to claim the Metroid series (Metroid 2: Return of Samus to be exact). It's one of my favorite series ever, so I'd love to pay tribute to it through this album. I'm not sure when I'd be able to start on the song, but probably relatively soon.
  21. I love this so much. It is conservative like you said, but I love the feel it gives. This was one of my favorite songs from the earthbound series, and you did it justice. Sounds like it's coming straight from a Wii version of the game. I'm definetly going to relax to this later. Thanks.
  22. My personal opinion, if you want to get better at making music, then do what you think will help you reach that goal. If it takes learning music theory, then go for it. There are other things you can try, most of them have already been suggested in this thread - but the one that's most important in my opinion is listening. I've learned most everything I've learned so far just from listening to music, and trying to recreate the sounds. Feedback is helpful (extremely helpful, actually), but people aren't going to want to always comment on your music, so listen. Only go for feedback whenever you're happy with what you've got. Then take the criticisms, and go back to listening. Really helps. Learning music theory and creating original music can help, but it really comes down to how much you care about music and how far you want to take it. If you're just trying to get on OCR, it's (obviously) not required. Also, ask questions. If you can't figure it out yourself, or google isn't helping, ask questions. No shame in it. That's all I have to say. Good luck.
