Games that retell legends or signify a subject.
Xarnax42 replied to Salluz's topic in General Discussion
There is a short story called "The Spider's Thread" , which is basically a Buddhist parable. Here's the Wikipedia synopsis: One of the dungeons in Skyward Sword, the Ancient Cistern, is heavily influenced by this story. -
I'm so glad I actually finally literally played Pilotwings about a month ago. I love your coaches' reactions when you fail.

Is anyone watching America's Got Talent this year? If not, you should definitely tune in at least for this coming Tuesday's episode. DrumUltimA is the timpanist for the 3Penny Chorus and Orchestra, who will be performing live at Radio City Music Hall for a spot in the show's semifinals. There is some daunting competition (my other favorites to watch next week are Aerial Ice, Taylor Williamson, and Timber Brown), and every vote helps. Also, they're really good. Original AGT audition: (Quality is lacking, but official channel cuts a lot of it out, including close-ups of the timps.)The full song:

OC ReMix BitTorrent Distribution: Issues; also SEEDERS WANTED
Xarnax42 replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
The numbers won't be in the file name, but they are in the file data. If you're using Windows, see if this helps: Open the folder the music is in. Right click --> View --> Details At the top of the columns, where it says "Name", "Title", etc., right click again and make sure "#" is selected. Edit: Oh. I think I completely misunderstood what you meant. Might be helpful for someone else....probably not. -
Mega Man: The Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013

Inspiration came late this week, and I grossly underestimated the amount of time needed to polish this into something even decent. Just woke up after crashing late...well, early this morning. It won't be feasible to wrap it up by the end of the round. -
Huzzah! First birthday thread. Thanks guys. It was a pretty good one.

Mega Man: The Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013
Xarnax42 replied to DarkeSword's topic in Competitions
Well, I was going to save this for the middle of my mixing week as an intimidation tactic, but since you asked so nicely... I may be possibly toying with the idea of maybe probably doing an a cappella entry. Following Darke's advice I haven't referenced a MIDI for Wind Man's tune, so I'm studying up on that while I wait for next week's source to be revealed. Tremble at the results (and just consider how much MORE it could be when I get some percussion thrown in). http://jessedeacon.com/music/acapellatest2.mp3 Well, if last year is any indication, your team would select a primary arranger to mix a tune chosen by DS along with all THREE of your team's sources. Of course, if "Unexpected" is going to be a running theme, that may count for nothing. He also hinted at possibly doing something special after each block of 3 rounds, so those may play into the final week plans as well. -

Looks like Energy Tank will be arriving fashionably late. zach72 mentioned that he had pretty minimal access to a computer this week. I'm pretty sure he wasn't able to complete much of a track, and, unfortunately, even if he did, I'm not sure he'd have the chance to upload it. Also, not saying it will change anything, but something to consider regarding a listening party: will listening and discussing all the tracks with other people effect the way people vote? -
Surprised no one's mentioned Wild Arms yet. Someone may be able to highlight tracks that are more uptempo, approaching bluegrass style, but the entire OST has that western feel.

Well, I just might need to finish and polish this, then... /tease

OCRA-0040 - Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin
Xarnax42 replied to zircon's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
I'm still checking daily. Obviously, by his responses, you know zircon is too. And I've no doubt pu_freak and DJ Crono and myself are the only ones who get a little adrenaline rush when someone says nice things about our work. Seeded over 100 gb? That's my monthly limit combined upload and download... (I have given back more than I took, though ) -
If you are ever in need of a vocalist, I'm always interested.

Yeah, the Rainbow Road cover is a particularly good mimic of that particular game's sound set. So is one. I wonder if he intentionally released this video on the same day Balance and Ruin was published.

That's definitely going to be worth following. Loved the cosplays he posted. Also, this is thrilling news for fans of the series' music: http://bryankonietzko.tumblr.com/post/52880228969/mike-and-i-are-excited-elated-proud-relieved -

FF6 Balance & Ruin Kickstarter RELAUNCHED (and FUNDED)!

The way I see it, there are primarily two ways to approach an album, and neither of them can possibly please everybody. Either you've got your focused, genre-specific project like Chrono Symphonic (probably my favorite album) or Random Encounter which have massive appeal to a relatively smaller group of people, and can typically be appreciated for what it is by everyone else. The other is to be so diverse that everyone will find a few tracks they absolutely LOVE, at the cost of those same people wishing other tracks had been dealt with a different approach. The point is, you can give a few people an album of songs they love, or you can give almost everyone a few songs they love. Either way, it's ALL BONUS. It's a gift inspired by the artist's passion for what they're doing; whether it meets your taste or not, you can appreciate the effort that went into it. And when you remember that NONE OF THE SONGS -- your favorites or least favorites -- would exist without the project, you just say thanks for all the hard work, and enjoy the parts that you enjoy. -
Between Orangedragan (what ridiculous spelling) and Sir Jord....um, Damashii!!, I think we should be able to cover baritone. As long as it's not too low, I could help too. What it really comes down to is the arrangements: SATB quartet looks pretty well covered. If we're wanting a full choir sound, we would probably want at least one more on each voice; from there, layering multiple takes and maybe some subtle effects would get the job done. And that leads into our biggest hurdle: Arrangements. Looking for them within the group may not be the most productive avenue. Can't speak for anyone else, but I am a very slow (and not particularly skilled) arranger. I think everyone would agree that we'd be happy to take submissions from anyone looking to feature SATB chorus in their piece. Of course, we'd love to get a capella arrangements, although I don't see any reason why we'd need to limit it to them.

Clown Man is best saved for head-to-head compos in which you can force your opponent to do what ToN says he never will. Also, it helps if it's someone excellent at drawing from a source to create something original, otherwise they'll be done by the first round. -

Xarnax42 replied to Brandon Strader's topic in General Discussion
Just to clarify, if it's the way DarkeSword runs his head-to-head tournaments, you would have a one week time limit, but would only be mixing every other week. So, there's at least a little room to breathe. -

Can't wait! Guys, if you've thought about taking Brad up on his offer, don't hesitate. He's a pro. Great communication, upfront and fair on prices and fees, and for all the postal action going on, makes pretty good time, too.

Has anyone heard of an arcade game called T-Mek? It was pretty much the coolest thing when I was in high school. It was a seated combative simulator with stereo sound built into the cabinet and massive rumble when you got hit. At the time, it was incredible. The boss of the game was Nazrac. Move some sounds around, throw in a couple 'X'es, slap on the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, and the rest is history. Also, special shoutout to SnappleMan. The first time I spoke in #ocremix, he said something along the lines of, "Xarnax42? Now that's a classic 1997 screen name right there." Dead on.
