  1. For BA3, the best NES RPG boss fight, hands down. If you were only to remix one of the sources, the first section ("Necrosaro") is the one to tackle. Second section ("Incarnation of Evil") is a bit more foreboding, but less energy to work with.

  2. You've both got some work to do. As for the track, I don't really have any critique to add. Pretty chill, cohesive stuff. I can definitely dig it.
  3. From the Forum Rules and Posting Policy: No spamming, flooding, or threadbreaking

Just a heads up before you get yourself banned.

I mean, you've got some cool designs, man, but if that's all you have to offer the forums, at least find a thread that's asking for them...

  4. 1:32+ ?!!? Bahahaha, my track is done QUICKER. Take that, therex! It's not much, but at least I actually subbed something this week. Actually, I'm really happy with what I did get done. I wish I could have developed it further, but I'm just way too slow... More importantly, this and the little WIP I managed last week are the most (and best) work I've done in over a year, so I'm really glad to be ANY degree of productive again.
  5. Yeah, I'd never heard of that either. But, on the third page of comments for the deal: Also, the Model # for the offer is WUPSWAFB, whereas the Model # for the set is WUPSKAFB.
  6. I was THISCLOSE to biting on this...at the checkout, the first recommended item to add to my cart was Nintendoland. After a little digging, I confirmed that this is the Deluxe Console, which is different from the Deluxe Set. It's 32GB, but no game with it...looks like I'll be waiting just a little longer to pick this guy up.
  7. I know exactly what you mean. Took me way too long to figure out what I was going to do with this. It ended up being another case of too little, too late. I do have a very short WIP...probably wouldn't have submitted anything anyway, but definitely wasn't going to take a cheap win knowing there was no competition. It's on to the next round now, so there's probably only a very slim chance of me coming back to this. That being said, just so you guys know I am actually doing something (and also because I think the tiny bit that's here is a lot of fun), here's my untitled WIP for Round 2 - Quick Man in the Green Grove Zone.
  8. This is my favorite post on the internet.
  9. It looks like Theory of N isn't going to be able to get a track in this week, either. Apparently, squirrels invaded his house so he hasn't been on his PC in a while. He'll elaborate on what exactly that means when he makes his triumphant return.
  10. Looks like I'll be working off the laptop for the whole compo... The really sad part is that I haven't found a setup with this one to record usable vocals. Was hoping to have a couple vocal tracks over the next few weeks, but now I don't know if I'll be able to. Another long week at work, but I'm off now through Monday, so I should be able to make a reasonable showing these next two rounds.
  11. Man, this week has been terrible. I've worked 35 hours in the last three days, and over 60 since Monday. Also, as of yesterday, my desktop seems to have decided it doesn't want to work anymore. I was really counting on the weekends to get most of my work done on these tracks, and with this one starting on a Monday, now is really when my weekend starts. I need to pass out soon, and will have a few hours to make anything at all before the deadline. I'd definitely like to have the next round match-ups announced tomorrow afternoon, but if there's any chance the deadline for this week can move AT ALL, I would really appreciate it. In the long run, I'm more in this to force myself to make music, so it's not that big a deal either way, but it will let me submit a substantially better mix this week.
  12. So I've been playing SMB a bit again. So, apparently those plant jumps I mentioned earlier are not even the hardest jumps in the game. The trickiest part is probably the glitch he pulls off in 4-2 (vid here, again). The jumps in 1-2 (at 0:52 in the vid) are the only other one I have not managed to pull off once. There's also a window of only a couple frames to jump the goombas in 8-1 (at 2:34). Main reason I'm posting is because I did just have flawless run on 8-1 that I'm pretty excited about. Clock read 200 as I hit the flag. It looked pretty much identical to 8-1 in the video. Plenty more work to do, but it's starting to look doable. (World record, probably not...the margin for improvement between the current record and a perfect TAS is only about 30-some frames. Nuts!)
  13. Remember that beer of mine I left behind before MAGFest? Surprise! It was your birthday present! I hope your day is as wonderful and intriguing as it was.
  14. Most of the places you're going to promote an OCR project, the audience has a clue that the remixes are inherently interpretive. And even within the music community, our albums are usually so diverse that they have something to love and something to hate for everyone. Sonic Stadium has a really broad audience, and it's really no surprise that people not at all interested (or even aware of, perhaps, in some cases) in the interpretation side of remixing are turned off by this. I also can appreciate the sentiment that even decent vocal performances or lyrics can sometimes actually bring a track down. It's not unlike a drum pattern that needs more variation, or a piano sequenced just a little too mechanically. There may not be anything specifically wrong, but when there's clearly so much room for improvement, once you notice it, it can be hard to ignore. They're a finicky thing, those vocals.
  15. I've been very on the fence about this. I definitely want to do it, but my track record in the last couple compos I've entered has been pretty....low-output , and I really didn't want to take a spot that someone else really wanted. If the roster's not full by now, though, I think I'm gonna spring for it. Gonna have to go Mega Man, as that's all I really know, so if I get that and push someone onto the Sonic side, my sincerest apologies. Gonna research some Sonic music right now, and should be signed up soon. I'm REALLY tempted to pick Clown Man just because of this. Of course, the cost of such a joke could potentially be 12 Quick Man remixes, and that's just a little too expensive.
  16. Haven't played Phantasia, but an updated version of this song was also the overworld/map theme in the Symphonia sequel. Even without Phantasia nostalgia, the track stuck out to me. Good request. (And if you haven't heard the reworked track, Zubaru - here.)
  17. Would you mind explaining your reasoning for the gap between rounds? It seems really limiting to allow one week to write a song, followed by 3 weeks of dead time, especially if that week is a busy one for someone who's trying to consistently enter every round. For me personally, I'd consider it ideal to have a round running at ALL times. The PRC has a brief voting period after each round because the winner chooses the source for the next round. As long as you're making the source selections, I don't see any reason a forced break is necessary. I know you mentioned a PM before asking to space the rounds out, but I think longer rounds would be just as effective at not burning artists out while also allowing more people a chance to get involved. I'm also a bit thrown off by the first-entry bonus. In a time trial, speed is precisely the goal, so of course it should be rewarded. I think offering an incentive for making music quickly seems counterproductive in this case. Also, I know this thing is in its infancy, and there are still things to be worked out; still, it would be considerate to those who have already participated to let them know what changes you are considering to the rules and scoring before actually implementing them. My criticism aside, I really do like the concept, and appreciate the efforts to make this compo unique. Thanks for following through!
  18. Oh, how the mighty have forgetten how to click on links. http://ocremix.org/forums/showpost.php?p=915471&postcount=14
  19. I've always taken this to be a really good sign. Until I saw The Last Airbender. If they STAY involved to the very end, it should be in good hands.
  20. I totally agree with this. I had a couple ideas for the first round but didn't have any time until last weekend. By that time, we were in between rounds.
  21. There's a difference between goofy enemy design and those that make you laugh because they're actually funny. Just by nature of having more fleshed-out personalities, a good number of bosses can be the latter. Here are a couple. Fawful (Bowser's Inside Story) Booster (Super Mario RPG) Ghirahim (Skyward Sword)
  22. There are a handful of daily t-shirt sites that have been popping up lately that offer a design for a great price for 24 hours. http://dayoftheshirt.com/ is a good resource to keep tabs on multiple designs with on sites with these limited-time offers. Most of the designs appeal to trendy geek culture - lots of Dr. Who, Firefly, Futurama, Zelda, Mario, etc. It's fun to see the designs, especially some of the ridiculous mash-ups the artists come up with. Fortunately for my wallet, there are usually at least one or two minor details in the design that keep me from throwing my money at it. Today, however, is not one of those days. The featured tee at TeeFury is a really slick FF7 design with the figures of all the party members in file (a bit of a Lord of the Rings homage) silhouetted against the iconic comet logo. I've bought from them before, and it's a comfortable shirt. Get it within the next 9 hours for $11 (plus ~$3 shipping).
  23. Every once in a while, I think about doing 100% runs on Super Mario Bros. It's one of those games where every fraction of a second counts, though, and some of the jumps that could save a couple tenths are soooo hard to pull off consistently, and the last jump is part luck. As for next games, (and I'm actually being serious here) you should consider Battletoads. If you have the patience to play levels repeatedly to perfect small errors, you'll be surprised that the game itself isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be. But people are still always impressed if you can beat it, so on the way to mastering the game, you would definitely join that club.
  24. Now you're saying it may have been a medley. I don't think this one's a medley, but all the other clues seem to fit. Startropics - Beach Party
