Troyificus got a reaction from Hemophiliac in Ristar - Ice Star
Thank you so much for all your help with this, @Hemophiliac. I am proud of it, and I wouldn't have gotten to this point without you.
I'll find something to use as a stronger transition and lower the lead a smidge. I don't have much free time between now and the album deadline so that'll be my last revision. And I'll re-submit it for evaluation as well, it'll be interesting to see how it goes down with the judges in it's new state.
    Thank you again!

Beyond your skill level?? What is that nonsense??
What's all that other stuff you wrote around it?  That's all solo material!
I don't recall if this was an issue in the previous version, but the section where the bass is the focus (0:54-1:14) gets very thin.  I apologize if this is something I missed in the previous version.  Having some of it be thin is a good idea for a textural contrast to the rest of the piece, but I would consider bringing in the pad that starts in the section following (1:15-1:54).  That thin pad could fill the space that the bass solo section has and then also smooth over into the transition to the next section.
Which brings me to the middle section (1:15-1:54).  This is much better!  The bells are nice and that low end mud is gone!  Good job.
I'm still hearing a lot of sustain/reverb wash in the second half especially when the tubular bells do the descending line (2:25-2:28 for example)
I agree you probably went too far away from the source melody in the second half, but you have the right idea with what you were going for!  Use the source melody here and do small embellishments instead of bigger gestures.
Still feel like the bass in the A sections (0:09-0:53 and 1:54-2:47) could be brought out some more.
Taking out the repetition really helped a lot too, it's much more palatable now.
    Good improvements.

Hi @Bundeslang.  First, I want to sincerely thank you for keeping PRC going for as long as you did.  PRC was a huge part of my development as an artist in the early days of OCR along other older competitions like IMC and I made a lot of collabs and friends in these competitions.  I am no longer making music, nor I am around online much but when I saw the email about this PRC being the last I had to jump in to salute and thank you and the oher artists.
I would say the absolute best part of being part of the community by far were PRC and other compos.  The constraints of the competitions I felt really helped me break out of some walls, and some of the remixes I made here both as sir_nuts and as showroom dummy made the jump to the front page.
Again thank you and all of those who participated over the years.  Hope you are doing great and wish you nothing but the absolute best in the future.

    Updated the first post.
The main reason to quit is that I don't want this contest to end up with many rounds without entries. As written in the first post, PRC469 was the first real round when that happened. With my quick songs for both PRC469 and PRC471 these rounds still didn't end without a song. And of course I don't let this one end without a song as well.
Nowadays people don't find their way to the forums and I don't feel anything to actively promote this on Social Media or somewhere else. PRC should stay PRC, after 20 years it is also a good moment to end it. After this I will still keep an eye on these forums.
Let's make this round a good last one.

Sad to see PRC go, but fully understandable. PRC has had a great run! PRC was a big thing for me when it comes to OCR and my music making in general. Many of my OCR posts are PRC entries, and there are still more coming.

Something happened in the second half with the snare that's causing it to be chorusing.  I start hearing it at 2:04 and through to the end.  It happens on most, but not all of the snare hits after that point.
Nice job adding variation to the bass and drums in various places!  They definitely help and prevents the track from getting stale quickly.
1:19 and 1:28 still have some kind of distortion going on.  Like I said before, it might be clipping or it could be some other distortion effect getting too hot for a moment.
At this point, those minor issues could be addressed and then it's up to you to decide how much you want to add things to take this to the next-level.  When I say that, I'm talking about ear candy.  Melodic embellishments, additional background elements that change (like synth modulation), or anything else you can think of that will add interest to the track.  Those things are not necessary, but recommended if you want to take it to the next-level.

Excellent feedback, thanks dude. The section where the bass takes the lead is actually one of the brass lines repurposed. I deliberately wanted to keep this stripped back as I have a tendency to succumb to feature creep and end up with way too much in the soundscape cluttering everything up. I'll take your feedback and see what I can implement. Thanks again!

I'm on a chillhop / lofi beats creative binge at the moment, and was wracking my brain trying to think of a videogame track I might be able to remix into that style. Tears of... (or Good Ending) seemed like a simple yet effective source to play with, so here are.
I mostly made this to include as a bonus track for an album, but though it might pass muster here? It might be a bit too conservative in it's source usage to be accepted, but I thought I'd pass it through the workshop to see how it did.

Nothing like an anniversary round to bring some old skool remixers out the of the woodwork. Been a long time since I've tried my hand at anything game-related, I'll see if I can get something put together!

    The People's Remix Competition 459
    PRCv19-21

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!
The last round of 2022. As a tradition, it's a free round. Like last year there are no source limitations (non VG sources and originals are allowed), even MIDI rips are allowed.

    https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC459

The deadline is Wednesday January 11th 2022 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the link for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. First I've put the deadline to January 4th but I decided to add another week.
You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread.
Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread.
Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score (when mutiple songs are submitted which is allowed like last year, the bonus is for every song so it's even more attractive to vote).
The winner of this round may select the source for PRC461, the second round of next season.
You can find the full rules list at this page as well.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Heya!
I'll let this be my first time joining in on the PRC fun.
Think I'll stick to VG remixes, but put a unique spin on whatever themes / sources I use. Will be my first time conglomerating songs together across a series of games to make 1 song.
    Hope it works out. >_<
