  1. Hated it. Sorry, but not even the incredibly impressive and well-done robots could save this film for me. It got mugged down in the horrid human-based storyline. When you can't even root for the main character (who, let's face it, was as shallow as the football player who didn't even play a significant role in the movie), it's hard to keep the wind in those sails.
  2. Happy Birthday, even though I know it's likely not. For those who don't know, I saw this story on Wii News and it's pretty serious. At least, I think this is the fire she's talking about. The fire was in a forest that had experienced a dry winter. There was also a lot of wind, so embers could hop from the tops of trees and make things that much more difficult for the firefighters. Around 200 homes lost, 3,000 acres from the last time I checked. It was also near a resort town, so some people may have their Independence Day celebrations ruined.
  3. There is the very strong possibility they're saving the juicy stuff for later. They haven't exactly dropped bombs with anything yet, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. They could be building up the awesome.
  4. Yes, there were. Space Pirates feeding Metroids would lose food rations for three cycles. (Again, this is IIRC - an acronym that's appearing far too much in this thread.)I like Shadowolf's explanation of it.
  5. I didn't mind the Ridley music. It wasn't spectacular, of course, but it wasn't bad. And I'm wondering if it's a case of "too many cooks" or something. A remix project without any WIP commentary, in terms this board can compare to? If that many artists are on board, I have to wonder who is going through these and checking they sound good. Or if game designers are taking a hands-off approach to things.
  6. I have to ask: Would people be terribly disappointed if Sonic were not in SSB:B? I'm starting to wonder. I haven't heard any mention of Sonic other than fan-fueled interest.
  7. Hello there. I haven't requested anything in a while, but I'd like to throw out the Wii Sports soundtrack. Specifically, the music that plays during the baseball training exercise, the Home Run Derby. It's appropriate for remixing: basic tune, but uninteresting on its own and in need of a fixer-up. No preference on genre; surprise me. Thank you.
  8. Milan was the codename....Or were you commenting on their poor ability to fully update a web page?
  9. I like the more "elder" characters in video games. Peppy's knowledgeable about flying and a substitute father figure to Fox, another one of my favorite VG characters.
  10. I recall hearing the honors students talking about doing a prank, but I never saw the fruits of their labor. I don't even know if they went through with it - they were all really busy that year.
  11. I had never played Kid Icarus before Virtual Console. I've pretty much promised myself that I would only get the games I really enjoyed and don't currently own OR games I never got a chance to play (Street Fighter II; oh, those wasted years). Yeah, I haven't set any of my Miis to mingle. Although, I do have a couple I'd like to send out. I'll be careful when I do.
  12. You know who'd make a good halftime act? Justin Timberlake! He could do SexyBack and...Oh wait. But the fact that CBS did the Super Bowl this year meant that they were under a lot of scrutiny. Even Prince was a bit of a risk, IMO, and obviously some people interpreted it through that magnifying glass. I don't think this has hurt Prince's career at all, though; I've heard people say he was the best part of that game.
  13. You see, I originally thought that, too, but Kojima's games are so movie-like to begin with, I would think the translation would be (to some degree) much easier. At least in artistic vision. It's not like Picasso's trying to become a conductor, more like he's switching the paints he's using. The issue I see would be if Kojima had to work with the equipment or treated himself as the "audience" rather than the camera. I would hope that he would have a very comfortable seat in front of the playback monitor. As exec producer, he should.
  14. Yeah, as long as this doesn't become Escape from New York 2.Or Kojima's in for a world of ouch.
  15. Was I the only one who thought the shillouette was more for height compensation?
  16. Something like that, only no bad Italian accent.EDIT: I think I found something: http://www.microsoft.com/Msagent/downloads/developer.asp This looks like it'll do the trick. Stumbled on it quite randomly. Thanks anyway!
  17. I'm curious if it is possible to make your own Office Assistants with relative ease. I was thinking along the lines of video game sprites, which may or may not be animated. Is it possible that this could be arranged? I'm not much of a guy to perform massive OS surgery, as I'm one of the few who can keep Windows relatively stable in most situations. If this requires massive reformatting or anything too intense, I'm not interested.
  18. Just so you know, my life just went from "doing virtually nothing" to "doing virtually everything, while sick, in a shorter window of time." I'm not ignoring this. Anyway, opening is better without the sound clip. You also vary up the notes at 0:19, which helps this mix considerably. Yeah, the musical instruments as placeholders, fix them, all the same stuff we've talked about. Won't rehash it. Claps are just as bad for some judges as poor basslines, so I'm not sure if I'd recommend them given the other option. If you can find a good snare, then go with it. Otherwise... well, I'm not sure. The thing with claps is much like the problems with the other instruments: they are very obviously pre-fab. Yes, everyone is familiar with the soundfonts available, but if you pick a mix at random, it shouldn't be blatantly obvious that it's from some music mixing kit. You can add claps to anything; add something unexpected. Again, everything past 1:48 is REALLY good. The claps work more with the track than as "background noise," so they lose that pre-fab quality to them and sound really good. 2:01's addition is quite nice. People will like that. Continuing with that music after 3:05 would work well, but the claps switch back to being background rather than part of the mix. The first half of this is where the serious work needs to be done. You've got some good stuff after that. I'll try to pop by when there's more changes, but life has finally caught up with me, so I'm going to be busy. Keep up the work, though - this mix is improving.
  19. The rolling part is so hard to do! I jumped backwards too often.I did the "chance" twice. The first time was a little "WTF? How did I activate this?" but when I started noticing it pop up, I tried it out again. Added a nice touch to the battle, but kinda risky.
  20. I agree with JustChris. The longer version is better, and I really like the change in tempo at 1:48. The "Come on!" at that point is also a nice add-in. I didn't care much for the other vocals ("I wanna see your hands over your head!"), but that may just be my personal distaste for anything vocal other than lyrics, so I'm not going to touch that any more. My statement about the opening still stands. The change back at 2:53 is also a nice touch. Those things break up monotony, the devil of the techno tracks. The voice samples are a nifty touch which makes the track stand out a bit, so the instrument quality is your next target, especially the new snare. Judges are very critical of background loops, so if they are bad quality, your remix will be shown no mercy. The main instrument at the beginning isn't as bad with the bassline thrown in, but you do need it replaced and changed up still. I think you were considering that anyway, from the sounds of things. I like the improvement! Most of the additions you've made have been positive ones.
  21. Not to a great extent, but I almost said "LOL" in response to a joke. Thankfully, nobody noticed, but I would have had quite the time explaining that one (back in '99, before Chatspeak was popular). Someone else I know uses FTW and Pwned. As far as actual video games, though, I have yet to see or hear anything that's a direct reference.
  22. Well, that's nifty. Huh, that's very nice. This helps considerably. It looks like there's a few more intersting ones, but I can probably safely spend my points now. Thank you.
  23. Fair warning - I'm going to be critical. Okay, right off the bat I have a major red flag - voice sample. I haven't seen whatever that's from, but it sounds professionally done. Either you did it yourself (which is impressive but not right for this track as-is), or you got it from something copyrighted (which is a bad thing). In either case, it's not highly recommended. In my case, I'm completely alienated. I have no clue what that references, and it doesn't lend itself well to the source - that's the song played when you get a new ALLY, yet "no man can be trusted." The music itself isn't doing so hot, either. The "buzzy" notes are not high-quality, and you'll get dinged for that really badly by the judges. You're also not using the source material to its full potential. You're playing the notes, but eliminating why the song is good in the first place. The song was made by how it was played. Each part was dynamic. This came out sounding very flat. Part of it was the overall speed of the remix, and part of it was simply not varying notes enough. Have some fun with this. You are told what notes to play, but you have to play around with those notes. I don't know what kind of soundfonts you have, but it sounds like you're limiting yourself. Browse the forums a bit - people have discovered nifty places to get nice soundfonts (for free) to make your pieces a little more snappy. At 00:42, the exact same song, only now with... what is that? Bells? This doesn't add much to the track, and it's also really bad quality. I understand you're trying to use it for the echo effect that the song had in the original. It's not helping to build energy, though, and that is CRUCIAL in a techno remix; it just tells the listener that they'll hear the exact same thing with a new sound every couple of seconds thrown in. So, my suggestions: -Better soundfonts. -No voice sample. -Variation on main tune. I've seen tons of remixes get rejected for two of the above three reasons. You've got a great source tune, but you have to make it your own. You'll be so much happier you did, and so will everyone else. Best of luck.
  24. It wasn't on mine, either (also GCN). I thought it looked odd. You're not going crazy.
  25. QFT. It sucks even more not knowing if there will be anything good.
