  1. I keep meaning to ask this, but who is that guy he uses in all his videos? The curly-haired, British-looking guy that Yahtzee uses to represent "bland" or normal. I think the dude's used in most (if not all) of his reviews.
  2. The "Baldur's Gait" line got me laughing pretty good.
  3. Duke Nukem? Who's that? ...But seriously, I never played a Nukem game (having parents that actually did what parents should and kept the violent games out of my hands as a kid) and don't think the release (which WILL come) can prompt me to pick one up. Yeah, I probably missed a huge chunk of gaming culture, but the things I've heard about it make it sound on par with games like GTA. Please don't flame me. My point is, the things that Nukem is known for may have permeated the game culture so much so now that they don't make a blip on the radar. Haven't some Duke Nukem games come out in the past few years (Zero Hour springs to mind)? Why aren't people getting all giggly over those?
  4. Two things: 1. Make sure you do a spelling check on these names, because Phoenix Wright is not spelled correctly. 2. If you're talking about the SNES version of Sim City, the green-haired dude's name is Mr. Wright and he's not the mayor. Otherwise, disregard this second comment.
  5. Agreed. I was honestly not expecting it to be so over-the-top INCREDIBLE.
  6. Another thing by the Register: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/31/inside_cuil/print.html Explains some stuff as to why it's not of-par with other companies. A little sad, actually.
  7. Yeah, the scenes delivered... over halfway through the movie. Until that point, we enjoyed the kids, the adults who don't understand them, and an uncomfortable conversation about masturbation that should have never made it to the screen. And as to the guy referring to the hot girl whose name he can't remember, was it Megan Fox, the girl who found LeBouf's character attractive for reasons I have yet to understand? As much as I think he is getting gold casting with silver credentials, I wouldn't wish this on him, either. This doesn't sound like a casual break that you cast for six weeks and be done with. It sounds like he'll have difficulty using his hand.
  8. Someday, I'll have the money to attend one of these. That day is not going to happen for a couple of years, though.
  9. Yeah, it's a little emo and probably not for everyone. But they advertised it so much, I thought I'd give the first couple of episodes a shot.Gave me something to watch in between Yahtzee videos.
  10. ...Okay, I'm not using that as evidence for a write-off. I mean, Keanu Reeves does look the part rather well. Give him tripped-out hair and the suit, and I think he could reasonably pull it off on the looks alone. And I can hear his voice synching up with Spike's (dubbed) voice pretty well, too. So that only leaves the actual "acting" part, which is unfortunately the biggest problem people have with Reeves. But considering that Spike is so carefree, I would hope that he would at least look at the source material. That would give the direction he'd need (i.e. away from Shakespeare and stiffness).
  11. It sounds like the other driver was the one who caused the wreck. LeBouf was drunk, but police are pointing to the other guy. Uhh... Part of me can't believe they're making another Transformers, but another part of me is crying because I knew it was going to happen. Why did so many people have to like such a horrible movie? Still, that sucks about his hand. What is it with the young, successful teen-oriented actors getting into these really bad accidents? Drake Bell had one a while ago, too. It's like the highway hates these guys. I'm not a fan of their acting, but I wouldn't wish that on them.
  12. It... grows on you. I think there was a thread somewhere in here about it. The final episode is going to be out in a few weeks. The "Oh wait" was what excelled this from great to a favorite of mine. The claps startled me at a point when my attention started to drift, but was one of the other parts that made this memorable.
  13. Does anyone else see a huge problem trying to cast Edward? Not only will the girl have to be young enough to have not... developed... but she'll have to wear very little clothing. I see them casting Edward as a male. Just throwing that out there. And it could not only be a problem of finding a girl they can use, but Hollywood might be dumb and think Edward's really a guy. Think about it: How often is Edward given definitive proof as a girl? How many of you can look at a picture of Edward and say that's a girl (without having seen the series, of course)? ...They just better get Jet right. And I agree with I-n-j-i-n: this is going to be an interesting year for nerd movies, if they all get out the door.
  14. May the pretz have the right amount of salt, for life's flavor, and the right amount or bread, so that he may never go hungry. And wine? ...We'll just leave that one alone. Happy Birthday, DJ Pretzel.
  15. I'm not a big music critique person, but I'm glad to see someone covering one of my favorite songs in this soundtrack ("Minks" being my #1). Throwing in the submarine's theme was a nice touch and varies the track well. The song has a good build, but I have some issues with what you're choosing for your bassline. It sounds incredibly... well, boring. I tried jumping around in the track, and things sound identical near the beginning and end. Even in the middle, the bass line only has minor adjustments to it. I would suggest free-forming it and making it a little less predictable. I'm not sure if you can do that with whatever program you're using, but it would be worth the extra work to take a more creative role in the bass instead of having a pre-fab line in the back. It feels like a car engine: moving things along, but nothing too impressive. Make it sound like an actual human is playing those drums and hi-hats. The main "techno" instrument entering at 0'23" doesn't strike me as something that'll win over the judges' hearts, but it does the job. I'd add a little more depth to it. Being someone who has no experience in this, I can't give you any more advice than that and would suggest waiting for other commentary to give some more criticism on how to adjust it. I liked the intro's build-up. This game is my favorite game - not one of, but THE favorite - and part of the problems I'm having with this is that the source material was very deep and multi-faceted. The rock guitar built up to the saxophone, and everything meshed well with the action. I felt like I could close my eyes and still control the game based solely on the music. After 1'14" and until 1'55", there doesn't seem to be a lot of direction to the piece. There may be some other areas, but I feel like I'm rambling at this point. As far as arrangement goes, I liked it. It needed a little more variation at the end, because it started feeling like a re-tread. Everything up to that point - 3'30", if I'm not mistaken - was really good as far as differentiation from elsewhere. Based on what I've read in Judges' Decisions, this is a great strength of the track. I'm sorry if I'm being too harsh with the commentary. I will say that this is much better than some other excursions into WIP I've made before. You've got a great start here, and I'm looking forward to seeing it in the judging forum.
  16. I have been meaning to ask: are you going to re-draw these characters, or will we have characters from different art styles in the same deck? Some of these may clash.Wheel of Fortune - Kirby. Constantly changes, but always for the better. Upbeat character, and even round!
  17. Sun - Amaterasu (Okami, multiple systems) - Obvious choice, since she is the sun god in this game. Temperance - Soren (Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - Spoilerish, but Soren comes to terms with being a "Branded" character. He is of two races, separated by a mutual dislike for each other. He is one of the more realistic characters who doesn't spout out ideals. Page of Wands - Diddy Kong (various) - He stars in a racing game, and he is often a brash individual who fights for the right thing. Fits the description well. I'll come back to this later. This is interesting.
  18. I don't mind similar characters, as long as they are differentiated enough to be important. Sophie/Cass is a perfect example. Emphasis in certain areas (speed/strength, usually) make the characters more comfortable for different playing styles. And nobody's giving any love for Soul Calibur Legends. Although, I could do great with Mitsurugi in SC II and III yet inexplicably suck with him in Legends. Hm. Mitsurugi, Kilik, Nightmare. Yeah, bring it.
  19. In other words, they're gradually building up to a console that can play WoW (or a WoW equivalent).
  20. I suppose that's true. But it's still a time-eater....If there's little else out when it's released, I'll consider it.
  21. It doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but I'll keep it in mind if I get bored with Mabinogi. Face structuring reminds me of Second Life, which is a good thing. Legolas looks like he's got a bad wig on, but this looks passable. Yeah, definitely on my consideration list.
  22. Having actually played the game, one of the draws for me is the conversations you have around town. The villagers are, at least for a while, oddly entertaining. When they started having conversations with each other in Wild World, that made things even more interesting, because their over-the-top personalities clashed in interesting ways. It's got a really attractive humor, even when the villagers are outright insulting you. And it's the whole sandbox thing. Your town is your own, and nobody can copy it no matter how hard they try. I'm not sure if I want this version, though. I love the mechanics, but it IS a very time-consuming game and it only goes so far for people who don't have others to play with.
  23. ...In what way?I played 9Dragons for a while, and I have to say that graphics aren't a huge thing. It was a beautiful game, but I didn't have a whole lot of control over my character's appearance. That and it being grind-tacular (no crafting, just martial arts) made it an easy game to walk away from. I had virtually no attachment to my character. So, I have three questions that could tell me all I need to know about the customization. 1. Pre-set faces or faces where individual elements (i.e. eyes, nose, mouth, etc.) can be chosen? Are there eight manly faces (one of which is scarred) to express our snowflake-like individuality? 2. Can we choose skin color? Not just black or white, but shades of purple and green for the "I like playing a demon" people that I don't sit next to on buses. 3. How many "equippable elements" are available to us (i.e. feet, torso, arms, etc.)? Can we wear boots and suits from different armor sets or do we have the armor "leotard" and self-crafted jewelry to adorn said leotard? The answers that imply lack of choice are what the standard is for free RPGs. People who want their own characters made custom-fit for them play Guild Wars or WoW. Which camp is more fitting for this game? Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to run a virus scan...
  24. I believe that is what's known as becoming "power drunk."
  25. Don't forget the menu music for all three - there's a lot of choices and directions to go with those songs.
