  1. LAOS, are you in line right now? If so, step out. Hurry!
  2. I was almost expecting the Avatar thread to be resurrected for this. It's getting harder and harder to defend M. Night Shyamalan on these movies. Lady in the Water was okay for me because I went into it expecting something other than horror, and I have yet to see The Happening (probably won't). I knew he was more comfortable writing for kids, too, since he was one of the writers for Stuart Little and his most successful films have a child/children playing central characters. But enough is enough. I always thought that it was M. Night's writing that was his strong point - I thought some of the writing in Stuart Little was quite good, and when compared to his movies, it was obvious what scenes he had a hand in. It's sounding like it's the other way around here. It sounds like his writing is the problem and his direction (which should have been strong in a film that practically makes itself with the source material) got shot in the foot thanks to 3D "innovation" getting shoe-horned in. Not to mention that it's condensing a 4-season series into a 2-hour movie. I have to ask those who have seen it: where does M. Night appear in the movie? Is he a random Fire Nation soldier like I suspected, or does he play some other role?
  3. That got my attention, too. So, is this a sequel? I have yet to get the first Sin and Punishment to bless my console (but have heard its praises). Should I do that before considering this?
  4. If it is, this site's not gonna last too long. (No offense to ThaSauce fans.)Unless their operating costs are really, really low, I honestly don't see them selling enough of... uh, "Create A Mall"... to turn a profit after distribution/copyright stuff, plus the overhead of a website (which isn't what it used to be, admitted, but is a cost nontheless). Investing in the long tail (and ONLY the long tail) with mostly small license games is a risk I wouldn't take with competitors like Steam and even PopCap in the same market. ...Business major in college; I calls them like I sees them. But what do I know? I don't even have an online store.
  5. I remember he liked the original outside of control issues, which SMG2 seemed to improve a little bit (that I saw - Yahtzee might level the same complaint). The only thing he could really complain about is the difficulty or length, because it's got the same sort of appeals as the first and a less annoying map system.
  6. Because starting a new topic for each of these games seems a bit unnecessary. Now I just need a computer that can run this, and I'll be quite happy. A bit late on this one, eh? I know the first one was out not too long ago, but is there really going to be a 5-year lag on the whole series? And this is...? *cough* Wait, the crappy MMO that already exists on PC? (Minimum system requirements, my ass - ran really slow and took 5 minutes to load a mini-game, which is 90% of this thing's consistency.) When did Squeenix buy Eidos? And is this seriously going to be considered a game by the parent company?
  7. I'm a waltz fan myself. (3/4) I didn't even realize it until I started listening to certain songs and realized that it was a time signature on a few of my favorites.
  8. I was thinking a few days ago that it was a shame there wasn't a way to effectively play songs that feature piano in Rock Band. And they did indeed hear the cries of the people.
  9. Agreed. This game deserves more props than it will likely get from gaming history.
  10. For the first Phoenix Wright game, it'd have to be "Objection!" (or "Objection! 2001" if you need to be precise). I'm guessing this also refers to intra-series references as well as the general remixing frequency of the song? ...There ARE some games where this is unfair, though. "Bubble Bobble" only has one song, so of course that song will be the Ice Cap.
  11. I'm joining the 18 party, even though I could BARELY hear 19. It was more like I could tell the headphones were trying to play something rather than hearing an actual sound. I'm 24, listen to music a lot (obviously - I think most of us do here), and almost always listen to it with headphones.
  12. I think that's the funniest review I've watched in a long time. I think Yahtzee makes his best jokes when they're very out-of-context references to gameplay. Having a random game like that was perfect for a ZP review.
  13. Huh, I could start an OCR station. I like multi-seeding stations. Who else is on there?
  14. So, where does Pandora get its artist bio from? Currently it's blank and I would think "sum noob" Zircon would like the exposure of some personal info. Just my thoughts, of course.
  15. ...So he's a recognized artist on Pandora? That means we can make a station out of his music, does it not? EDIT: Indeed we can. Rock on.
  16. I'd do a remix of Steep Hill (a K.K. song) from Animal Crossing: City Folk. Something with a rock guitar and a piano coming in partway. I've always wanted to do an Animal Crossing theme because it seems like I could really knock it out of the park when I got the talent up for it. Unfortunately, in addition to being a tad tone-deaf, I'm not very well-equipped for such a task. I had a sequencer, but I could never find decent enough instruments to give it a genuine shot. That and I didn't know what I was doing half the time. I suck at bass lines, too.
  17. Well, he didn't like the QTEs in it, and he seems to object to running around half-naked in a game (understandable, because a beachwear-clad person getting hit with a machete usually doesn't result in "minor" damage). God of War just seems to be very obvious offenders of those. He might've liked it, but then games started copying all the annoying parts of it rather than what he actually liked. That "Fantasy" egg game (not familiar with the game, sorry to say) is a "joke" favorite of his, perhaps for sake of nostalgia. He later downplayed it, but it's probably one of his first favorites (or perhaps his first game - that'd make a lot of sense).
  18. Real life: Football or ultimate frisbee. I like walking/running. Paper: Sudoku. Occasionally, a word find or "Bridges" if those are available. Fighters: Don't do so well in up-close endeavors. I try to get characters with distance on their side. These tend to be weaker characters in some regards, too, so it usually balances out. I am crappy at defending. FPS: The rare ones I play (because I suck) usually result in me skulking around trying to find someone I can sneak up on and attack from behind. Unfortunately, everyone else seems to do that to me much faster. I'm not much of a grenade person because those always manage to bounce in the wrong direction (that is, toward my face). Shotguns aren't my cup of tea, because I always manage to hit everything EXCEPT my target with them (even at medium, "are the shot magnetic or something" range). MMO and RTS (to a lesser extent): I'm a distance-attack person. I never do well in the fray, but I like having one or two tricks up my sleeve (a good/unexpected weapon, a "just in case" skill, etc.) in case someone comes in for the kill. Usually, I like being a healer, but after too many people "heal plz" me, it's not the most attractive job. Shmups (or bullet hell): I usually listen to the music and follow that. Not kidding - my favorite game of all time is U.N. Squadron, and it's because the music is so easy to follow to. It's the perfect zone-out game. Playing these games on mute just wouldn't be fun. General rule: I prefer male characters if given the option, with a few exceptions (Melee, situations where female has different advantages). I make sure to thoroughly explore any area I go to. I also am a perfectionist in other regards. -If I'm charged with protecting people, I want to save them all - even in ridiculous circumstances where a sacrifice or two may be necessary or more desirable. (This is why I suck at Lemmings games.) -I collect everything. I put in a good few days/weeks into Legend of Zelda games. -If I can max out my skills in any way, even skills I don't use, I'll do it. -I try to perfect-score all Mario Kart games I play, and feel like it is a defeat when I don't. (Easier once I learn item physics, but not possible in some circumstances - dang spiny shells.) I don't really have a style. I just fear death enough to let my instincts kick in that way.
  19. Question for BardicKnowledge: Did you take advantage of the demo period for WiiWare games? They had World of Goo and 4 other games up for trial. I don't know when they were taking the games down, but it may be worth it to check and see if the demo for this is there. That and Pokemon Rumble, which is surprisingly fun in its simplicity. Real-time, simplified Pokemon battles makes for an entertaining time. I bought the full version and it's good to have on here. Either of those games would be a worthwhile investment, depending on if you liked the Pokemon series or if you liked Lemmings (which bears strong resemblance gameplay-wise to World of Goo - not a bad thing). --- I still have 500 unspent points, and I am debating getting SMB (a nice standby and a game I don't have a functioning copy of at the moment) or holding out for something else.
  20. Yeah, yeah, Disney's in the liquid hydrogen chamber now and everything past "Bare Necessities" is not relevant. Want to talk about this point a few pages back for a sec; will try not to derail this fascinating topic too badly... ...What, the cross-dressing? Warner Brothers did that way back - just thought they were keeping up with the Bugs Bunny laughs. I assume you're talking about the male soldiers dressing as females and seducing the Hun guards? It seemed to be more about female equality (making the female role the "superior" after it was inferior the entire movie) than about homosexuality.I still haven't seen the travesty that is the sequel, but if this is Disney (company) apologizing for the years of the ideal woman being white/European and deliberately racist jokes, I think the whole Princess and Frog "Look, it's a black princess!" and the Lilo & Stitch "Sis has thighs!" has more to do with that than an alien consistently dressing as a woman. I can't argue the House of Mouse because I'm not sure what you're referring to. If it's the cartoon series I'm thinking of, then I say it's just Disney trying to be like Warner Brothers in its jokes. --- The issues mentioned in the list TheHands provided above can all be explained by one thing: these weren't films for kids. No, seriously, these were movies for adults that kids could come along to. The freaky acid trip stuff was a staple for films (watch some earlier films with dream sequences), and the other stuff was just par for the course in Hollywood. Compared to today's standards, yeah, Disney supporting Nazi party members has some believability to it. Back then (pre-Civil rights), though, everyone was making jokes about black people (or had them stuck in the kitchen, like good ol' wifey) and had implied rape / drugs / Satan as key plot points or metaphors. The only reason we're offended is because we've heard of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the only cartoons we see smoking nowadays are on Cowboy Bebop reruns. If anything, Disney kept it tame. Tame enough for kids to go and still enjoy the film, even though most of the deeper stuff would only make sense to adults (which Warner Bros. also did). Watching TCM is an educational experience...
  21. If you want to go high-brow, a scrolling marquee with a Shakespeare play might bring a touch of class to the room. Or music lyrics. I'd even suggest a high score of a game you're really proud of (like best score for SMB or Frogger or something). Now, how elaborate is what's going to be on the sign? Will you be able to animate or are you looking for pure wordage? I also take it hooking it up with some sort of stock/news/weather ticker is out of the question? I'd imagine if you had a constant feed via the "floppy drive"... but that'd be a lot of work.
  22. Oh, oops. I was too busy checking for anyone who caught #3 that I guess I missed that.
  23. #3 on the first post is Princess Kara from Illusion of Gaia, and her pet pig, Hamlet. #1... I'll take a stab in the dark and say it's Ryu from Breath of Fire. The hair color's off.
  24. I'm always sure I'll have a good time when I come to this site. Thank you for the dedication you've shown over the past decade, even with Y2K looming and all that other stuff.
