  1. The only thing I can of that you might be talking about is his mentioning that he'll be asking all current ReMixers to agree to the policy. The ones that don't or can't agree will not be bound by the new policy unless they submit new ReMixes. As for the off-topic part of your post, check your PM box.
  2. I think it is probably illegal to sell shoes with animu drawn on it.
  3. ...do you even know what a troll is? I'm trying to help here. Okay, maybe I just don't understand what the problem is. Aren't you giving your "total agreement" when you give the license in the first place? And when you agree to the license, which says that it's okay to "use, distribute, perform, and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media or technology now known or hereafter developed," doesn't that include physical media? Why does there have to be a separate section for that?
  4. Indeed. I was disappointed by the lack of essential phrases such as "weak point," "massive damage," and "giant enemy crab."
  5. CDs and DVDs are included in the part that says "license to use, distribute, perform, and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media or technology now known or hereafter developed." So I think that's covered.
  6. If a person doesn't agree with the new policy, then they don't have to submit new mixes. My understanding is that all their old mixes will still be under the old policy, and they can still ask for them to be removed. But since the new policy doesn't even affect them, there isn't really a point to doing that, unless you just wanna annoy djp.
  7. What's there to explain? Yasunori Mitsuda, the owner of Procyon Studio Co., Ltd. and composer of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, is composing something for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
  8. Wow, that was quick. I remember you were asking for feedback like a week ago. Nice work. But you still kept that ridiculous chord at the end.
  9. The emphasis should be on "non-exclusive." That means OCR doesn't become the *only* party that can distribute your work. That's why you still retain your rights. No, you're not being left out. You're being asked RIGHT NOW by this license to decide if you agree to have your track released "in any form, media or technology now known or hereafter developed." If you don't agree to that, fine, then don't and be done with it. But don't accuse the license of leaving out something that you just missed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for my vote...I'm abstaining for the moment. While I personally don't have any problems with the remix removal policy and its implications, reading other people's posts and argument has made me realize that the principle of the matter is also important, as distributing something against a person's will (no matter how petty or silly the reason) is not something that seems morally or ethically sound. I think that if Atomic Dog or another lawyer had the time and interest to weigh in on this again, it's likely he would be able to provide citations and other evidence that it's illegal to do what you want to do with only a license. But I also think something could be worked out that's both legal and not as threatening to the ReMixer. So, I'm going to hold out for possible changes to the policy before agreeing to it.
  10. Nowhere in the license does it imply that OCR is obliged to distribute the ReMixes. And removing a mix doesn't necessarily mean relinquishing the right to distribute it. So I really can't see a situation in which OCR would actually want to terminate the license.
  11. I still hold that the second sentence is redundant. I'm curious, though...does this mean that a situation could occur in which OCR wants to terminate the license, but the ReMixer doesn't? I don't see this EVER happening, as it's a rather silly scenario to be honest, but the implication here is that OCR would be stuck with the distribution rights (ohgnoes!).
  12. I think that'd be more red tape than most people wanna deal with...
  13. You already posted the Halo one, but I enjoyed the Numb/Mad World one. Good stuff.
  14. Shields and structural stability aren't really related to "art style." I didn't really notice a difference in the BCs...and Zealots have always been Rastafarian ninjas. The "dreads" they have are the psionic appendages that nobody ever seemed to notice in the first game (see Exhibit A and . Exhibit A Exhibit B (Zeratul's are cut off because he's a Dark Templar.)
  15. I think that's the point of this policy. You're giving OCR a "non-exclusive" and "permanent" license to distribute your work. Maybe I'm just not understanding you, but...what does this have to do with the topic? djp isn't worried that there won't be enough material for a DVD...the problem is that if he prints out hundreds of CDs, but suddenly somebody says "I want my ReMixes removed and don't allow you to distribute them anymore," then he's now lost thousands of dollars because of that. He needs to make sure people won't be revoking their licenses left and right before he can even try to doing cool stuff like this. Again, don't overreact before you're clear about the meaning of a person's post.
  16. I agree that most of Compyfox's scenarios are unlikely, but so are some of the other situations that were addressed in the policy such as "what if there's another exodus" and "what if a composer wants to commandeer my arrangement." So it's worth talking about stuff like "what if a company wants to use and take down a remix that was posted before this license." Then you can't really use the argument, "Well if you wanted to sell it, you shouldn't have submitted it in the first place." Anyway, I think I'll take a shot at answering some of these questions (at least the ones I understand)... I think what djp was saying is that he'd have to actually *see* this "written confirmation" and make sure it wasn't written by yourself or something. And even in this case, I think it could still sometimes be negotiated with the company to let OCR keep the track on the site. If you agree to the license, you're giving up your final word on removing remixes. I'm not even sure what you're saying here...can you clarify the situation you're describing? So you're saying that if an artist did three different ReMixes from three different games, and a company wanted to use one of them, all three tracks would need to be removed? I don't see what right they would have to do that. What do you mean you "have to" agree to a termination? The license says the it's only terminated if BOTH parties agree to it. Although, now that I think of it, that makes the "OCR has a right to refuse termination" part kind of redundant... The first rule is to preserve site history, and the second is to make sure it's correct in the first place. So your objection is that the policy is too inflexible to accommodate unexpected situations in the future? Well, of course, it's impossible to forsee all possible outcomes, but the policy isn't talking about those. It's just talking about stuff that we know might come up and how to respond to it. If something comes up that wasn't addressed, it can be dealt with then. Actually, that's never happened before. All project tracks posted before the project release were because of explicit agreement between the project coordinator and the site, for promotional reasons like you mentioned (in fact djp had to beg KyleJCrb to post his ToP track ). But if a track did happen to slip through at some point in the future, the track would be taken off of the project, not the site. You keep making it sound that OCR wouldn't comply under any circumstance. While they'd prefer not to take down a song, I think if a reputable company asked nicely, they would.
  17. Well, StarCraft was already pretty much a Warhammer 40k rip-off in the first place, so borrowing stuff from other series isn't really anything new.
  18. Wow, "perpetual" and "irrevocable" sound really ominous, even in the "non-exclusive" context. I'm not really suggesting a change of wording...just stating an observation.
  19. Okay, I have to ask: why do you think people care who posted what when, especially after this thread has been dead for a month?
  20. No your system sucks and I hate it.
  21. omg blood elves plz Actually, the only reason I want more races is so I can get 200 extra supply with my Dark Archons.
  22. Well, he was talking about the work it takes to post remixes, but then you went off on a tangent on the site standards...those two aren't really related, I don't think.
  23. I can't help but feel slightly disappointed that I waited 8 years and they don't even have a new race. I suppose it's hard enough to balance 3 as it is, but I was fully expecting to be able to play the Xel'Naga, or perhaps even the Hybrids.
  24. Don't listen to Bahamut, he hates fun.
  25. I'm excited about the potential in a new map editor. I had a lot of fun with the scripting language in the first one. Also, is it just me or do the Protoss now have destroyer droids?
