OCR02371 - Dynamite Headdy "Trouble Brewin'"

I think happy hardcore is my LEAST favorite genere, or something about that, but, surprisingly, I find this track pretty good. Maybe because it's done by Flex? Actually, pretty nice job here! -
OCR00209 - Legend of Zelda "The Music of My Groin"

I think THIS is the most classic track on OCR. It's so hilarious Awesome. 5/5 -
OCR02835 - Chrono Trigger "Echoes of the Forest"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Damn, Sebastian certainly knows how to combine chitpune-ish electronica and live cellos to creat such lush and chill soundscapes. Love the cello soloing @ 2:04; the breakdown @ 2:35 is simply jaw-dropping - the cello is especially dramatic there. Wonderful tune, Mr. Freij! -
OCR00683 - Super Mario Bros. "Dirty Mix"
Black_Doom replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh boy... Very, very weird approach to it o_O Wild, crazy breakbeats, mangled samples, lots of unexpected turns and such make this mix an instant OCR classic, even though it's a bit straightforward. Cool! -
OCR01794 - Sonic & Knuckles "Sand in My Shoe"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Huh, Sandopolis + old-school R&B/hip-hop? Well, seems to be legit... At least, Jose made this combination work. The beat is pretty toe-tapping and the Middle Eastern instrumentation is woven in quite well. Nice job! -
OCR02321 - Pokémon Gold Version "Precious Metals"

Hahaha, what a cute mix, It instantly makes you smile. So carefree and upbeat Don't have much to say, actually, simply love it. -
OCR02407 - Mega Man X3 "Noble Creature of Snow"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It's a bit unusual to hear such an in-your-face song with strong atmosphere of winter, but hey, why not? Both leading & rhythm guitars here are very sweet and the pounding drums are quite nice too. Very cool work! -
OCR01507 - Metroid Prime 2 "Torvus Clockwork"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow, the atmosphere here is really great - there's something very light yet tense to it. The abrasive percussive textures, which give this mix a bit of industrial vibe, are abolutely amazing, the glassy piano licks and soaring synths are great too. It's really a little different from other Darke's Works, but it's pretty cool nonetheless. Nice! -
OCR01828 - Super Metroid "Heat Vision"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Absolutely excellent mix! I love how Darke managed to combine the dark atmosphere of the source with some swinging jazzy stuff. The piano was actually pretty good, but I wish there was more of it. Other than that, everything else worked pretty well! -
Huh, I thought that I had reviewed every Redg's track. Anyway, this song is one of my favorites from him. On one hand, it's pretty bizzare and complicated, but on the other, it's great pleasure to listen to - this excellent downbeat atmosphere, the heavy drumwork, crazy glitching, bits of jazz, D'n'B and who knows what else! Love the ending part @ 2:54 - nice touch! Very cool!

OCR02222 - Sonic the Hedgehog "Under Construction"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a really awesome song, probably my favourite from SoS. I'm big fan of such jazzy arrangements, and this track is no exception. Everything is so smooth here! Especially love the vibes, they really help this mix shine And yeah, gotta love the vocals as well, they're pretty mesmerising. I would really love to see a live performance of this song. Great collab! -
This mix is an absolute win, seriously. It blend together a lot of really different instruments and textures like airy flute, windy piano licks, pleasant acousti guitar, groovy percussion and a bit of electronica. Especially love the short-but-sweet piano section @ 0:49. So, this track has a really great atmosphere - it's a bit sunny, a bit sad, a bit melancholic. But overall very good - amazing collab!

OCR01915 - Kirby 64 "Dark Matter"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Man, I suppose, this is certainly the most dirty & face-melting D'n'B song on this site. The beat is just as kickin' as it can be, and the synths really give this mix dark atmosphere. The piano-laden breakdown with that tasty crunchy percussion @ 2:29 is especially cool, it really varies the darkness of this mix, making it a bit colder, if that makes sense. Very solid work! -
OCR01803 - Bionic Commando (NES) "Armed and Dangerous"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
While the intro may seem a bit minimal or something like that, the synths @ 0:30 kick it up a bit and some backing elements appear as well. From there on, the groove is pretty solid and the track even may make you want to tap your toes. And then some EP and guitar appear, and this song becomes totally badass. Love that effect @ 1:19 Awesome mix, Palpable! -
OCR02550 - Donkey Kong Country 3 (GBA) "Corn-fed Kong"
Black_Doom replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I gotta admit, I'm not big fan of country music, but this track caught my attention immidiately for some reason. It's so playful and inspiring. I can easily imagine some countryside when listening to this song: bright green grass & trees, clear blue sky, shiny yellow sun, some little cute buildings here and there, ahhh... I simply can't resist the atmosphere here. The violin playing was great, as well as bouncy piano licks and guitar parts. Wonderful! -
When someone uses vocal samples in his mix, they are gonna either ruin it totally, or make it incredibly awesome. Thankfully, here we got the latter. These samples really help to embrace the high-energy, adventurous atmosphere of this track. The breakneck percussion is simply jaw-dropping and the synth soloing is pretty impressive as well. Amazing track, Emery!

OCR02708 - Metroid "Kraidzy Dance"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Very interesting mix here. While it maintains the atmosphere of original pretty well, it also has all of those EDM details - jammin' four-on-the-floor beat, some excellent bass & synths, so this unique blend of style and atmosphere is pretty damn cool. So good! -
"Caling the Four Giants" is pretty much an iconic source from LoZ:MM, so it's cool to hear it done in such way. It's really epic. Whenever I see the word "dubstep" in the description, I usually prepare myself for dirty, in-your-face music, but this is very different - it's much more melodic, without jaw-dropping breakdowns and such, but still very pleasant. Love the piano section @ 1:05 a lot - what a wondeful touch! Sick song.

OCR01700 - Okami "Celestial Winds from the East"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love the feeling of ending credits theme here. Mike created a truly gorgeous and soul-touching song. The eastern instrumentation sounds pretty good, and the piano breakdown is an absolute win. Wish it was a bit longer, though. But aside from that, it's an exceptionally great work -
OCR02235 - Sonic Heroes "The Wingless Butoh"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm big fan of Mystic Mansion theme, definitely my favourite from SH, and I was really pleased when I saw this mix, even though it incorporates a bunch of other sources as well. It's pretty amazing, how Michael managed to tie them all into one cohesive track, that's actually quite good to listen to. I really love how it evolves in termes of dynamics - it starts off very quitely, with nice minimal electronica, then guitars join this action to bring in some energy and finally the orchestral-infused part makes it appearance at 2:48, and this is where the mix becomes epic as hell. Awesome! -
I think that this is my favourite from DQD. It seems to be the one of the lightest and one of most emotional songs from this album. But yeah, I gotta agree with Emunator - every section is unapologetically short. And when you only dive into the atmosphere of some part, it changes almost instantly. Love the vocal samples used here, though - they really tie this mix together. Nice
-
The vocal intro is really short-but-sweet, and then you get this kickin' beats, cool asian instrumentation, hot bass and synths blended together into a single badss song. Some glitching thrown in here and there is a pretty neat touch, like it. The whole song sounds very futuristic, yeah. Great collab!

OCR02372 - Chrono Trigger "Zeal Feels Good"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Man, I can't believe I still hasn't reviewed this awesome track - it's been in my playlist for a while, actually. You know, when it comes to chiptune-infused electronica, lots of words but "mellow, sleepy, relaxing" comes to my mind, but this track definitely is a mellow, sleepy, relaxing piece of music. Gario certainly knows how to treat 9-bit stuff Excellent work!
