    Black_Doom got a reaction from Eino Keskitalo in OCR03730 - Mega Man X & X4 "Rolling"
Man, I've been listening this track a lot since it was released as a part of SFRG. I can actually say that this is the only track from that compo that made it to the top-50 of all tracks on my phone  It doesn't mean, though, that the other tracks are all much worse, no, that's just how good this particular stuff is! Anyway, really solid collaboration guys! From kicking drums and delicious synths to some serious guitar chops and smooth vocals, every little thing here shines here. You can't just listen to this once and forget about it. One of my personal highlight here, however, is the part at 2:19 - it's like a small sonic rollercoaster with all those interplays between various instruments. Once again, huge thanks for this work, you're a great trio <3

Hi! This is probably my best cover out of eight that I have put up on Youtube and Spotify. Having hard time finding any kind of audience/community to share these so I figured this is the place where I can find some video game music fans that give opinions and hints!
I try to be pretty faithful to the original arrangements and bulid my own stuff on top of that cos' it brings my piss to a boil when you have a metal remix of some tune and it's just filled with double kick and djent without anything to do with the original arrangment.
So there's my modus operandi, enjoy!

    Hiya!
Well here it goes! I was recently playing this game again from childhood and out of all the tracks I chose this one to try to remix. (Death Stage)
I don’t have a computer or even speakers at the moment just headphones and I used the Auxy Music Studio app to mix.
If anything I hope it’s somewhat enjoyable to listen to and it would be great to receive some advice. : )

Black_Doom reacted to WillRock in What genre of music fits each style of Sonic best?
    Ok lets examine these claims.
How are the melodies boring? From my perspective, they're pretty catchy imo, they certainly stick in my head. The guitar work, if you analyse it is a lot more than just guitar chords like you suggested, there are lots of cool little melodies thrown in there. Its a lot more creative than a lot of backing guitar work imo, and the solos are pretty neat too. Not sure why you're comparing them to megadeth either, megadeth are thrash, and Dave Mustine is known for having some of the most crazy and intricrite lead and rhythm playing of all time, he's a complete monster, and don't get me started on their bassist Dave Ellefson, who does some completely insane stuff. Its like looking at a painting and going "its not as detailed as Leonardo Da Vinci's work, therefore, it must be worthless"
So... tempo.... The majority of the sonic songs i've heard are around the 160-200 mark? Thats pretty fast honestly. What is your definition of slow exactly? For me, Hotel California is slow. Sweet Home Alabama is slow. Sonic heroes main theme and escape to the city are pretty damn speedy, and open your heart and live and learn are upbeat romps. I'd hardly call sonic music slow, in fact when I think of modern day sonic music, I automatically think of pretty fast, frantic pop rock so I STRONGLY disagree with you there.
Also, you're talking about the quality of music when it is a completely subjective thing. Simple does not mean boring. It might mean boring to YOU but some people like that. Some people find megadeth too fast, too aggressive, with hard to follow arrangements and weird change ups that don't make a lot of sense to them. Some people find that really refreshing. Led Zeppelin are one of the greatest bands of all time - I consider their music boring sometimes. They can make some amazingly intricate and amazing compositions... then some of their songs have 1 bar long riffs that repeat endlessly, but sometimes thats the point - its about mood, its about feel, its not about musical complexity - thats why 4 on the floor beats are so popular  in clubs, because it is easy to dance and groove to it. I think thats why Led Zeppelin are so special, they had something for everyone while keeping to a very cohesive and identifiable sound.
I don't want to sound patronising but you need to stop thinking about music as good vs bad and try to understand why someone else might enjoy it. Just because you personally don't like something doesn't make it completely worthless, or "bad".

Not sure, why I've never commented here before, been a huge fan of this track since its release on OCR. What a funky and energetic song! Honestly, it reminds me of Sir J's debut track, "Smooth As Honey". In a good way, of course  (Is there a bad way, actually? lol) Anyway, this track proves once again how good Jorrith is as a musician - this is something I've never heard from him before in terms of the genre, yet it is absolutely polished track with some solid beats, funky guitarz, hot bass (that soloing at 2:57, omg), catchy vocals (Jesse, you rock!), and whatnot. I can't stop singing the chorus when/after listening to this tune ;P Thanks for an amazing work, guys
    P.S. Nice OutRun cameo, btw.

Black_Doom reacted to Mazedude in American Pixels wins a SAMMY
Hey all; just wanted to share some pretty cool news, for everyone here who didn't see the buzz on Facebook. This past Friday, my hometown of Syracuse held their annual "Syracuse Area Music Awards," also known as the SAMMYS. Local artists were celebrated per albums released during the previous year. Considering my remix project of American Pixels was launched last January, and I crafted it in Syracuse, I was nominated. I'm blessed to be able to announce that I actually won the award for "Best Electronica," and was able to use the platform to showcase the world of video game remixing (and game music in general) to a whole new audience!

It was awesome to be honored where I grew up, but it was doubly cool to take game music to a place that typically focuses on rock, jazz, and folk, ya know? It was a fun night.

Black_Doom reacted to Suguru in Fundraiser for bLiNd - lost all...
Hey guys. As you can see, this is my first post here as I just created the account, but I've been with OCRemix for quite some time. Though I didn't have the use for my account here, after what happened recently I decided to create my account and create a post about it...
As some of you may know bLiNd and his great works in music industry, whether in game remixes or his sole tracks that he's created - he's a musician to the bone and by heart! Every track of his is special. In fact, he was the one that invited me into game remixes.
And recently I have found that he went through a lifebreaking incident - his whole home has been damaged in fire that broke out and he lost not only his place to live, but also pets and his way of living - musical equipment...
So I decided to create a post in the forum, as for some of you guys you may have know him, if you can or know someone that can as well back him up - please do so. We can't let Jordan's faith go away!
This is the link to the fundraiser that Jordan started - https://www.gofundme.com/aguirre-fire-fund
If you feel that his post is somewhat inappropriate, please do as you see fit with it. I have absolutely no interest or any gains in this, other than Jordan's well-being and getting him back on his feet.
I thought about this forum as a first thing I could go on, because this is the place I first met Jordan on and thought of you guys...
I will thank backers in my stead, as Jordan is not aware of this post - so each and every backer has my own personal - thank you! Though it may not mean much, I really appreciate everyone's help!

Black_Doom reacted to Mazedude in Too many projects in general
Not sure if this tidbit of advice will help, but here's how I finished American Pixels. That was a 5+ year project, tons of excitement at the front-end, and then it turned into... work. And here's the problem, I have a family and a full-time job, so I kept hitting the snag where I'd work all day, spend time with the family, have a pocket of free time at night, and then... not have any energy left. That, or there'd be this sense of "yay, I have time to work on music... and oh no, I feel obligated to work on that project and I'm really not in the mood..."
So, that happened over and over, and occasionally I'd have a magic day off (holiday, whatever) where I'd get a wonderful 4 hours in a row to myself... and during those moments, I could tap into the creative juices and get it going again... but man, those little magical windows were rare. Like, once every few months rare. It got really frustrating seeing an album inch to completion in those sporadic bursts.
The answer for me: wake up earlier. I'd set my alarm for 4:30am, be in my studio by 5am, and get in a solid hour, hour and a half every morning. My brain wasn't yet tired from the day job, I was rested and fresh, and the stuff that seemed like work before now seemed fun again. And, it actually helped my happiness level, so even though I was sleepy, I was giddy at work considering the progress I made in the early morning hours. And then I just had to ride and chase that feeling until things were done. It was tough to get started, but then it became strangely addicting.

Mind=blown. I love such tense cinematic arrangements a lot, and this one is no exception. It literally leaves me spechless whenever I listen to it. The guitars sound a bit out of place for me, but aside from that, this is very neat track. Well done!

Black_Doom reacted to bGevko in Link's Awakening - Ghost House
@The Damned Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment.  What you’re saying makes a lot of sense and the title is a bit deceiving.  I suppose if I were to try to paint a picture with the remix, it would be more on the sunny and happy side instead of the gloomy sadness that the ghost house represented.
While creating the track, I didn’t really intend for it to be happy. Original plan was to capture the sadness of the scene.  However, as it started taking shape, it somehow went into the opposite direction.  A little on the deeper side, I began imagining what it would be like from the ghost’s perspective to become alive for just one more day on Koholint island.  I tried to capture the essence of the day,  from the morning, noon, afternoon, and the evening sunset; the sections were meant to be symbolic of this, but only in my mind.  I didn’t really expect anyone to interpret it the same way, but hopefully hat makes sense.

    @Black_Doom
Thank you very much for your kind words, I think I’ll give it a shot and submit it.

A tango spin on an upbeat, underrated track from Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I never finish ORAS, but I'm sad to learn that the Abandoned Ship was replaced with some decrepit research station. I so loved the romanticism and intrigue of a lost cruise ship.
What I love so much about the Abandoned Ship location is that it's not creepy. It's more a monument to travel and the past than a ghost ship. The orchestral theme from the anime plays up the romanticism and feeling of luxury. I adore that theme, and I've listened to it far too many times! And then one day in the shower ("too much water"?) it hit me – this piece works perfectly as a tango, rhythmically and thematically. I got to work, and here is the result. Enjoy!

Hey guys, how's it going?  My first post here. I have a remix from one of my favorite games, Link's Awakening.  This one was a lot of fun to remix. Once it took off, it pretty much made itself, like I was both the driver and the passenger.  I’m looking to see if I can get a second opinion on where I can improve.  Particularly, if there's anything in the mix that stands out, or perhaps in the arrangement.  Thanks a lot.  I wasn’t planning on submitting this officially, but I changed my mind and decided to give it a shot.
