Why is REAPER not in the DAW skills list?
Dafydd replied to LuketheXjesse's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I'd never heard of it before. -
Will an external sound card (usb) help make noise levels lower compared to an internal one (not mobo but e.g. pci) when recording from an external source (like a mic)? I remember I got myself an audiophile specifically for recording since I wasn't happy with how the x-fi performed there but the difference was nonexistent. Is it possible there's too much electromagnetic interference inside the computer to make any recording hardware work optimally?

Sorry, I've been busy doing other things, but I've also been trying to get a guitarist for my mix. No great progress so far. You know how it is, you ask someone to help you with something and they either do it while you're talking to them on msn or you keep reminding them everytime you see them there and they never do it.

I think a friend of mine had a NES game I think was called Joust, but I'm pretty sure there were horses on the picture on the cartridge sticker...

OC ReMix BitTorrent Distribution: Issues; also SEEDERS WANTED
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Every little bit helps, as far as I know. I often download things pretty quickly when there's lots of seeders that can only give me a few kB/s each. -
Starfox (Asteroid, Ending, Map/Main theme)

No updates yet, sorry... I have too many ideas and other things going on with school etc. I will probably finish this at some point though. -
OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I know I mentioned this somewhere else. It's old. As is the issue with the mascots not being clickable. -
Is there a special program used to make these front pages? The design is awesome.

Oh boy. Another [insert vulgarity of choice]scape?

Ok, I've set up an FTP for wips. PM me if for login and stuff. I've put one of mine up there too, and the project is no longer on hold. I'll put it back on hold if it dies again. EDIT: I've cleaned up the first post. A lot.

More than me

Hmm, you're done already? Or are you doing a super-duper medley?

I agree it would have been cool with separate mod and pitch wheels, but the joystick can be reprogrammed to do other stuff too. Like moving around on a "pad", like a 2D formant filter, or moving the mouse pointer. The kontrol49 has both 2 wheels and a joystick, but it's another $125 or so and much bulkier.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History
Dafydd replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Projects
OLR has plenty of vocal mixes, iirc. -
What it does? Well, it's a keyboard. You plug it into your computer and press some buttons. Voila, a remix is born! Seriously though - it's got the sliders, the "encoders" (?) and the trigger pads besides the usual stuff. My current keyboard has a lot more octaves and bigger keys but no pitch wheel or any fancy controllers.

Does anyone have one of / anything against these? I'm seriously considering getting one, used. I don't have a lot of desk space but I think something like this could be extremely useful. Is there a better alternative in the same price/size range?

Around here instrumental is mainstream. -

You mean like in game music? Anyway... did you ever consider people might not want to make their pieces instrumental for the sake of conforming to a societal craving for instrumental music? -
You're right, it's difficult for someone on the outside to see how much work djp puts into this place, other than the writeups.

I didn't say it was easy. I was just wondering whether he'll ever have enough of it. If I had something that demanded this much of my time and that this many people depended on me doing well I'd probably crumble completely under the pressure on myself I'd build up. And it's not like his workload is going to decrease anytime soon either. At some point, he decided he wasn't going to be able to evaulate all of the songs on his own, and so he created the judges panel and he saw that it was good. Delegating the writeups as well would probably feel like a huge failure for him, as would letting someone else do most of the coding of the website. I'm just wondering how long he'll be able to do it on his own.

OCR01068 - Ninja Gaiden II "In the Atrium"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I don't know what happened at 5:30 and on. The rest is very nice. -
If I submitted something today and it was eventually passed by the panel, it still wouldn't be posted until 2010, judging from the submission dates of some of the non-resubs in the tbp queue. I'd put more or equal blame for that on djp though. I wonder if he'll ever step down from doing a writeup for every posted mix.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History
Dafydd replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Projects
I think listing all vocal mixes would perhaps border on a "favorites" list which is usually a bad idea around here. The staff wouldn't want something that makes it easy to find vocal remixes either, I don't think, just like they don't want it to be easy to find ones of a certain genre. It would be pretty easy to make an unofficial list though. EDIT: This doesn't belong here, sorry for hijacking the thread. -

What would you put there instead? Paul McCartney? Wait, you said that already... -

Am I serious? THIS IS OCREMIIIIIIIIIIIIIX and around here we don't care much for sticking to the original genre. In fact, it's almost frowned upon by some. Myself, I can definitely see Mining Melancholy as a rap remix. I did't know that's what it was going to be, but hearing what I imagine it to sound like in my head I'm liking it already. I have to agree though, I have a hard time imagining the Flying Krock as a ballad. It's so dissonant and it hardly even has a melody. I don't know if any genre other than orchestral horror movie music (i.e. the original genre) would fit there. Removing the rap from a rap song won't necessarily make it not rap, by the way.
