D'oh! I hadn't realized there were several different ones, I'd only heard the first one until now. Now I'll be stuck here for the rest of the day. EDIT: And there's full screen available, too! Argh!

They sure are missing out.

Hm, cool stuff. Heard this? http://www.myspace.com/ymck

You're right - there's no point in even bringing it up. Just couldn't resist. And yes, I shouldn't have called anyone out individually - editing previous post. So the snare is "thin for the genre"? That's a lot more precise - thank you. I wonder if this is what Larry meant though. You also bring up several issues that others already have, which is good, because then I get a better idea about what parts need to be fixed, so I don't go fixing things that were really fine but that someone had a personal opinion about. Keep the comments coming, I'd like to know more.

Yeah... the forest themes from both Zelda 3 and Super Mario World have been remixed into Hip-hop (or whatever the genre is called). I think this one might have as well. Must be a Koji Kondo thang. Aeth, you could always take one of the already finished mixes of this track if you want...

I think the baby yoshis, like the one above, are from SMW1, not SMW2. Am I wrong? Where in SMW2 do you ever find baby yoshis? LT: As far as I know, the Yoshis with the HUGE amount of assorted colors couldn't be from SMW1, as there were only red/green/blue. I've played/beaten/100% cleared SMW1 and never saw these colors. They may simply be recolored SMW1 sprites, I wouldn't know. Anyone that can confirm/deny would be appreciated. Speaking of recolored, most of the Mega Man sprites are (NES sprites can only have 4 colors each as far as I know), even though the graphics are originally taken from the NES games (I think). Would it be cool (for me) to upload some un-recolored ones? LT: I actually swapped out any NES ones for the recolored ones when the poses were the same. To me they looked cooler, so I'm gonna stick with those. Oki.

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Like I said, it shouldn't be much work. The line of code that says "[username]'s avatar" needs to be changed to "[avatar name]". I don't know how the site works but it shouldn't be a lot more complicated than that. The PHP script generates this page, and a piece of html code that looks like this: alt="Dafydd's Avatar" -
I loved this soundtrack. It conveyed a feeling of loneliness, and it made you scared of the alien (and by alien I mean unknown, foreign) enemies you faced. I can't really recognize any of the original themes in here, but that's just me. 2:05 and on sounds more like Starcraft (Zerg) than Homeworld. What are you using for your bass drum? I could really use the sample / instrument for a soundtrack I'm working on. Think you could send it to me or tell me where to get it?

Did he now? Where can I find them? I was actually thinking about that the other day - someone should start a new kind of PRC where you remix "new" (SNES/Genesis and onwards) music into NSF's.

Great. Can't wait to hear it. 3 votes in 3 months is... well, you'd expect more. [judgehate related to slow voting process] BGC writes: And yet, inexcusable as it may be, it keeps happening. [more removed judgehate]

None of the judges said anything about bass boosting, did they? The cool thing about well-made drums though is that even if you turn the bass off the kick drum still has an amazing oomph. About the snare drum, I still don't know what was LT's problem with it. He said it "sticks out like a sore thumb", which I guess means he thought it was really bad, as out of place as if I'd used a trance clap instead of a rock snare.

Wow, how do you get to know all that stuff about EQ? Do you think you could show me an exampe? No offense, but I don't recall the drums in your Phoenix Wright mix to be particularily punchy. Also, how do I know my headphones / monitors don't have an "absurd" bass response?

Dave Wise has done the soundtrack for pretty much every game that Rare has ever made, at least up until 1994. Just look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Wise Hehe. Great guy, isn't he? I wonder what he'd say about this mix...

Try that one?

Yeah, sorry about that. I'll update the first post when the host starts working again.

http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9036 I thought the judges who voted on this weren't really telling me the same things, so I think I need some more feedback to get a better idea about what needs to be improved in this mix. Please comment. http://home.student.uu.se/dahe9761/PureTen.mp3 In response to the critisism: The remixer name is pronounced like "Fighter Pilot". It's just spelled funny. Blame my teenage past self. The guitar isn't supposed to sound "ultra-mechanical", but I also did nothing to make it sound real. I thought the people who heard this song would think "wow, those are nice guitar samples", not "wow, that's a well played guitar". May it be I can't make it sound better, but I never intended for anyone to believe it was real - I wanted it to sound mechanical, similar to the guitar in Boomfunk MC's "Freestyler", for example. But this is just for the into / outro parts - I wanted it to sound more real for the main theme, where I think you're right about it being pushed back a little too much. As for the snare, I personally liked it. I wonder what kind of snare you'd prefer here, and if it's something I can fix using EQ or if it's the sample you don't like. I actually gave the snare individual reverb that the rest of the drum kit didn't get just to get the right sound for it. But the pattern is a little boring, I'll give you that. As for giving the drums more punch, do you mean, like, "Zircon punch" (I'd love to hear Cpt Falcon say that in Smash Bros) or just a little? I let Zircon listen to this song while I was waiting for people to vote on it and he didn't mention giving the drums more punch as far as I can remember (and he makes notoriously punchy drums). The strings at 2:00 seem to be cut off halfway through their sample and are a little dry and loud, maybe that's what makes them sound fake. The overall level could be boosted, yes. I just need to put a limiter on the drums to get rid of those notches, or they'll be clipping all over the place.

I think the reason why he said "since 1998" was because he was suggesting Win 98 is better than Win 95. I can't think of a single program or game that supports Win 95 but not Win 98. Win 98 is also much less likely to crash for no apparent reason. But yeah, it's kinda odd that XP doesn't have decent built-in DOS emulation.

A happy life without music? Seriously...
-
Then you are totally spending your time on the wrong forums. Anyway, too bad the sample quality is so bad, and that the notes are so dissonant. Other than that, wow.

A lot of the stuff in your song was also off tempo. Like this: http://www.ngst.nu/Offtempo.mp3 Here's what it could have sounded like. http://www.ngst.nu/Ontempo.mp3 I think was JJT was getting at is that if you can't tell the difference between these two, or if you can't tell that what happens in the first of these two samples happens in your song as well, then making music isn't for you, because anyone who can tell the difference finds the first sample to be very unpleasant to listen to and will think the same about your music. The thing is, I kinda enjoyed the song up until when it started getting fucked up like that and I don't understand why you would do that if you were able to tell whether individual parts in a song are off tempo or not. Either you can't, or you didn't listen the song through before submitting it. Both of these possibilities warrant instant rejections from Liontamer. Your new, shorter clip does not suffer from being off tempo, however, so I'm going to have to assume you are not tempo-deaf, but didn't listen the song through before submitting it.

Join the NSF revolution now! Ban all MP3's! Seriously though, it would be pretty cool to have an NSF plugin in your portable media player. Why doesn't Nullsoft release a player of their own, I wonder?

Agreed, the movie was anti-climactic, and I don't like Dumbledore either. He's too vigorous and tempered. The one in the book was always calm and harmless. Except that one time when Harry's name came out from the goblet of fire.
-
I never really understood what happened to Sirius in the book. I remembered it as him being killed and falling down dead, but now I re-read that particular part and it only says he falls through the gate and Harry thinks he's going to come back. The others insist he's dead, however, but you never really get to know for sure. A comeback in tDH is not impossible, as I see it. Some speculate that Dumbledore will return in the next book, but that would require that Snape only said "Avada Kadevra" but cast another spell, or Dumbledore returns as a ghost, or Dumbledore has found a way to return from the dead (I've seen that happen in other worlds... like Star Wars), or he never died. Sirius has a better chance of returning, I think. I agree that the film felt rushed, but not nearly as rushed as the fourth movie. But the flashing headlines did, indeed, feel cheap.

I'd expected her to be uglier, and also a lot more annoying and embarassing, almost scary in her oddness. The movie version was a calm and reliable person with a few funny ideas.
