Where in your first post does it say you know how to convert between the filetypes? I don't see it anywhere. Furthermore, you said the "best you can do" is a .wav. As a result of this, I misinterpreted "I don't have the software for it" as "I don't have a program that can create MP3 files" rather than "I don't have a program that can make good sounding music". Sorry about that, and for being rude. I just thought - "hey, it's 2007, who the hell doesn't have an MP3 encoder?" So, truce? Anyway, we need some cool NES graphics for trophies! The 3 most favored participants for each contest will have their names displayed next to trophies (gold, silver, bronze), and it would be cool if those trophies were NES graphics. Does anyone know of a good, classic, famous, suitable game to rip these from?

Er and you do not have this software... why? It's not like the internetz hasn't been crawling with free wav to mp3 converters for the last 10 years, not to mention the ones that cost money. Winamp can do it, there are even encoders running under DOS. I must therefore assume that this lack of software of yours is voluntary, though I can't think of a reason why you would willingly abstain from mp3 encoding.

I think he meant this: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showpost.php?p=296450&postcount=3

What's your problem with MP3s?
-
Ahahaaa I can see this one becoming hugely popular.
-
spambot threads are teh it.
-
Though if you have less than even 100 posts, you're likely to be considered a noob. But yeah, definitely don't post useless stuff like I do or you won't be very popular anyway. Off-topic is good place to gain postcounts and to learn the particular humor and lingo around here. Beware of the Atomic Dog. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Another postwhore wannabe joins the ranks.

That mean you're interested in the participating in the competition, but not as a competitor? I'd welcome that - while the TS:COMPO looks nice, I'd rather not involve TS here, as I've already spent hours making a website for the compo and all

Ok, I suck at genres. I don't know any bluegrass songs on OCR. The closest you'll get as far as I know (and this is pretty far off, I reckon) is this. I think me and monkey are talking about the same song, but I wouldn't know if that song is bluegrass - it's just one of the parts (the one that is neither melody nor bassline) sounds like something you would hear being played on a banjo.
-
Hey - no hurries, I just thought "hey, omfg, a banjo player" and couldn't resist telling you about this song I'd really like to hear a remix of. I'm not generally a fan of country music (at least not the kind that Shania Twain makes, if that's country, or that horrible song about West Virginia), but I like the music in e.g. "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", and the duelling guitar/banjo thingy.

Please confirm whether GT is capable of making NSFs (I've never used it, so if it is, my bad, sorry about that - I just looked it up and all it said was it made SIDs), and I'll add it to the list of useable programs to the bottom of the first post.
-
I wasn't suggesting you should remix for your work thing, but as far as I know we don't have a lot of banjo players here and that song needs a real banjo if it's ever going to be remixed. It's the first song in the gbs: http://www.zophar.net/gbs/sml2.zip You can also get the song here: http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/4788/12 The download link is a little hard to find - it's on the 3rd row of text under the advertisement banner, where it says "click here".
-
You should totally remix that song from the Super Mario Land 2 soundtrack.
-
You're doing some really odd stuff with the bass at times, like going down one semitone when you're supposed to go down a minor third or something.
-
Ok, but this competition isn't for SIDs. If you know how to use GT though, you shouldn't have much trouble learning FT...

Vanilla snow was actually fun.

Internet Connections - Pricing and Availability

Move. You're like a desert nomad complaining about a lack of water. I get 24Mbps for roughly $44 (but it's really just 8 because of the distance to the "phone station"). That company wouldn't get a single subscriber in Sweden. What use is broadband if you use up your monthly quota within the hour? Afaik there's no limit on any of the Swedish isp's. I think my brother downloaded 8 gigs of stuff just yesterday. -
Because I want to. It would be too broad if any song could be included, and I want to hear what non-NES game music would sound like on the NES. Again, if you want a competition where anything goes, there's no one stopping you from starting one, and if this one doesn't gain enough popularity to make a competition (i.e. no one wants to participate), then it will be cancelled and die. Rearranging music for the NES isn't "trouble", it's fun fun fun!

Oh noes I think I must have skipped that part, or opened up another window just when it came up, so I thought those subtitles were part of the parodies. lol This whole thing is retarded enough to get me confused as to which is a parody and which is the original.
-
And you're not telling me because...? Sorry for being retarded myself. Does it say somewhere else in the thread? EDIT: Ok, I saw the parody. Why does he move away from the mic to not breathe in audiably? Breathing sounds could be edited out afterwards... most of the music I listen to have audiable breathing sounds anyway.
-
That guy would make a perfect Simpsons character. Why is he bobbing his head away from the mic sometimes? Looks retarded. EDIT: Nevermind.
-
Hehe, yeah, but then it wouldn't be a competition, I don't think. I wouldn't mind a "remix project" in which you took a whole soundtrack and made one big NSF out of it. We all know this is a bad time to launch yet another remix project though. Besides, there could always be more chiptune competitions than this one - one where you remix non-game music, or one where you make your own song based on a set theme. I'm all set on what I want this competition for though. Winner picks the next and Well, we now have 3 people interested, or possibly 5, so I guess I could launch this now. I just need to read more into the ts:combo thingy, it looks like a good solution. If you're interested in a more open NSF competition, you should check this out: http://www.2a03.org/ Wow, I just listened to some of Virt's chiptunes. zomfgz! I think he's pressing beyond the NES's abilities though - I doubt he could make an NSF sounding like that...
