DarkeSword uses $100 FruityLoops, or so I've heard. Maybe that's a good enough starting tool for you.

Seeing people do these things that I try so hard to do so flawlessly and effortlessly makes me cry.

A free remix tool hahah why don't you try this one? http://leah.johnsandford.org/images/ocrlogo02.png Or go here... http://www.ocremix.org/mixing/

Alien Vs Predator: 'Up there...past them trees' (Big Beat)
Dafydd replied to ellywu2's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Too lazy to look up the original, but this is really cool, I think. -
It's kinda short though.

4 remixes from Zelda LA and MM & Final Fantasy IX
Dafydd replied to Erdnal's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This doesn't sound very good. You have little to no effects (reverb etc.) and the instruments sound very unrealistic, even in the MP3 (but in that one it might actually have been intentional). You seem to have good enough ears, though, so I think you could become much better with practice. -
OCR00909 - Stunt Race FX "Thin Glow"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice. Don't know why this one has slipped me by until now. It's not all that easy to recognize this theme listening to the soundtrack, but I really like the mix. It has that satisfying "credits roll" feel to it. -
Why not just pick the image from the site header? Like this: Not very pretty, but you get the idea. Of course, it would look better with the letters "OCR" in the middle there. Maybe ask DJP (edit: Apparently, Zircon is using an avatar that looks just like what I described there: )

Theme Zelda World Dark Zelda Dark World Theme
Dafydd replied to LongeBane's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
'twas that bad, eh? -
Er, no, it's still not working. The torrent has an average transfer speed of 3 or so kB/s, so I'm not the only having problems, I guess, but I really don't seem to be getting any of the fun at all.
-
Most of the seeders for the torrent I was trying to download were using Azureus, so I guess I'll have to try that, then. Thanks for the help.
-
Once you're done with this, give the Brinstar theme a shot (the upbeat one that plays in the green, western area). Just a sound upgrade would be completely fine.
-
I've noticed that for some torrents, they won't start downloading, despite a very large number of seeders and health of 1000% or more. When listing "peers" (I'm using bitlord), there are various percentages, upload and download speeds for each peer, but my download speed remains at 0kb for some reason. Does anyone know why? It's kind of frustrating to see how there's so many seeders and still being kept at 0% without knowing why.

Ok, that sounds cool, but it could just as well and easily end up in disaster instead Try it - maybe it does work. Remember to pitch your own voice down a little to get that UT announcer feel to it.

Very wipish, DJS, but promising. Feels like menu music from the early NFS games, but crude. tMF sums it up pretty well.

Thanks for clarifying, Derrit. DJ SymbBiotiX - You website looks like an old dos game. Nice. As far as I can tell, your skill level is definitely good enough for this project. I look forward to your WiP and am pleased to see someone join the project after a long time of no activity at all. I'd like to ask you not to make another glitch mix though... but that's just my personal opinion.

I think it's going to be integrated by using a wiki of some sort. I'm not in charge of actually implementing it though. As long as you can get to the bio by clicking the mascot in the corner, I'm happy.

Battletoads and Double Dragon: Steel this beat WIP
Dafydd replied to BiG WhEEL's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This game really deserves some more attention around here. You got the bassline messed up, I think, but I can still tell what song it is. The drums are very mid-frequency and very far left. Interesting reverb you have here, it feels like everything is physically behind me, and mostly to the rear...... Good start though. This has OCR potential, I dare say, but it needs work. -
IceCap Zone "BrainFreeze" UPDATE 8 YEARS LATER
Dafydd replied to spellmynamewithabang's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
You're a mean guitar player, Snappleman. "Oh man, that just works in so many levels! Ahahah! Ahhhhhahaahhhhhh *choke* " -
I think it's too far from the original, but not in terms of arrangement, only in atmosphere. It should be the other way around.

WIP Donkey Kong 64 - The Frantic Factor
Dafydd replied to awesomeman500's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Don't you have a sequencer? This is all very live keyboardy. Kinda chaos. I don't mind the string instrument despite it being very obviously fake. It feels very gamelike. But you need to get things on tempo and on beat. -
Donkey Kong Country 3 - Bonus theme (Western Style)
Dafydd replied to Pavos's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Agree with Prasa_K. Do more people hear this tempo issue? I do. Do both sax sounds sound fake (there are 2)? Yes. But the first one is really bad. The sax "section" sounds better. -
Yay, F-Zero! Been listening the soundtrack since a few days back. Ah, the memories... This isn't the hottest song in the soundtrack, but it deserves some attention nonetheless. The pads are clipping in the beginning, I think (or maybe it's just distortion). Bass is pretty awful and MIDI and way too faint compared to the pads. The brass is too loud, too. The drums are really boring, plain and faint, too. More punch, please. I'm missing the snap and rhythm of the original. It felt like it was going someplace and this is just... stomping on the same spot somehow. I think it's mostly because of the drums. I'd suggest not playing making the bass play non-bass notes when the pad is playing, or make the pad stop playing low notes. They kind of clash and drown each other out, and there's a lot of dissonnance in the bass spectrum, and the pads clash with the melody too, especially in 3:00 and on. I think the main problem is the volume levels. Some instruments are way too loud and some that should be are barely audiable, mainly the bass and the drums. Try listening some some of Zircon's stuff, he always makes the drums very in-your-face in a good way. I think he's using compressors to do it. I don't mean you should make your drums sound like his, but study the way he does volume levels.

Green Day taking the mean password screen theme from Megaman 2 into Minority-style hopping. Oh yes. Happy Punk that one up like I tried doing in my now broken source WiP (i.e. RiP).
-
This is nowhere near as smooth as the other one. The voice in the intro feels fake, and so do many other instruments later on. Anyway, this is clearly much more OCReMiX like, and has much higher chance of passing the judges panel than your previous mix did. And I'm saying this preferring it over this one. I'm kinda missing the source tune though... it's in there pretty briefly, but the theme I was really looking forward to hearing isn't really here at all. Anyway, best of luck to you. I think you should submit this and see what they have to say. Rarely does a mix made in just a few hours make it past the judges.
