TheChargingRhino reacted to GuJiaXian in "Extinction Party" - Lemmings
I like it (I can almost hear the "oh no!" sfx as I listen). Any chance on a download link? I'd love to add this one to my playlist.

Maybe something like "Sunset in the Jungle"? Very cool work, by the way!

The main battle themes of Final Fantasy I, IV, and VI. That classic bass line was even called out in the Scott Pilgrim movie. (It's in a bunch of other FF battle music, but I don't expect them to be as well-known.)

A vg realbook is an interesting thought experiment... but here's my imaginary set list / jam list...
Zelda - Great Fairy's theme (how could you open with anything else?)
Metroid (NES) - Brinstar (letting them know you're the OG)
Mega Man - Snakeman (push that opening energy)
CT - Millenial Fair (feels good mane)
CT - Secret of the Forest (take a breath, learn some forest secrets)
Zelda - Song of Storms (everyone's drunk on forest secrets, touch them inappropriately with zelda)
Earthbound - Onett (there's the sunshine again)
Sonic - Green Hill Zone (crowd pleaser)
Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant (because you've got the chops, and ice cap is too short)
Super Metroid - Lower Brinstar (darkness brooding again)
Super Metroid - Lower Norfair (rock. and. roll.)
Yoshi's Island - Underground (we're safe now, extended jam time)
Mario 64 - Dire Dire Docks (rising back to the surface with some melody)
Super Mario Word - Overworld (because NES 1-1 is too cliched at this point)
DK - Stickerbush Symphony (a cheer goes up from the crowd)
CT - Corridors of Time (of course)
Zelda - Darkworld (the crowd wonders when the show will end, but they don't mind because zelda)
Kirby's Adventure - Butter Buildings (seriously when is this going to stop, ooooh shiny!)
DK - Aquatic Ambiance (crowd forgets their evening plans and decides to follow you anywhere)
Final Fantasy - Prelude (misc FF suite so you don't get shanked after leaving the stage)
Final Fantasy III - Altar Room
Final Fantasy IX - You're Not Alone
Final Fantasy any - Chocobo
Final Fantasy VI - The Decisive Battle
Final Fantasy VI - Terra (bring them to their knees with your sweet overdriven nectar of life, walk off the stage)
CT - 600 AD (encore, let the tears flow)

Following this thread.
This is more or less a list of "If there was a VG Realbook, it would need these tracks in it."
And since I'm making one of those, this could be useful for that.
Butter Building (Kirby Series)
Lost Woods (Ocarina of Time)
Overworld (Every Super Mario Bros.)
Ending (Super Mario Bros 3)
Chocobo Theme (Final Fantasy)
Slider (Super Mario 64)
Tetris A and B Themes
The Moon (Ducktales)
Fourside (Earthbound)
And I'll stop there for right now.

I'd like to claim Meteor Base! I'm also interested in Out of this Dimension but I'm going to wait a bit and see if anyone else claims it. I need to get some work done on other tracks!

I've got tenor/alto saxophones, clarinet, trumpet, Native American flutes/ocarinas, electric bass, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin, tin whistle, harmonicas, a trombone, a french horn, banjo, keyboards, etc... Lots of stuff at varying levels of skill on my part. Could get creative and make something weird or isolate a few instruments I'm proficient at (sax/guitars/tin whistle/mandolin) and make something a little more comprehensive. Just let me know if you want any!

On second thought, scratch the first part of my post. It's driving me crazy, but it's in 4/4.

Check the vote end date. Think I should get back into competitions.

Just a quick tip, a 5/4 measure sneaks in at the fourth measure/there's an extra beat added to bar 4, which isn't reflected in the MIDI. And as dizzying as it sounds, I think everything else stays in 4/4.
I have to give credit where it's due: my wife picked this source track. She really wanted something from Twilight Princess, so I gave her a list of what I should pick, and she said this one.

As far as I'm aware, most of the instruments you hear in the Donkey Kong series are derived from KORG M1 soundbanks (either that or Wavestation). There is actually a VST-version of the synth KORG offers as part of their KORG Legacy Collection. With some instrument layering and modulation you could probably come up with near identical sounds.
As for contacting David Wise... He is on Twitter, but whether he responds or not I could not tell you.

TheChargingRhino reacted to Mordi in Seagull Sonata [Stickerbush Symphony] (Donkey Kong Country 2, SNES)
I think it's finished. I think I'll submit it to OCRemix today or tomorrow.
Edit: Finally submitted, as "Seagull Sonata"

Really? That's awesome
I'd like us to be done with the recording sessions as soon as possible so I'm gonna hunt down a drummer next week -- if anyone in this thread can provide drum though, show yourself quickly before I start my search!
By the way, Lauren, did you find a way to record MIDI performances with your keyboard? Otherwise, I might need to ask for someone else to play the piano for us too.
I'm afraid I cannot provide a MIDI of that "Records" cover either -- threw away all the sequences that were replaced by Jameson's performance (only the drums, synths and piano remain)

TheChargingRhino reacted to The Coop in An OverClocked Christmas v.10 -- RELEASED!!
Turned out to be a nice album this year. We had some familiar faces involved this time, but we also had a new face or two taking part. Gotta say a big "thanks" to everyone who both tried to get something done, and to those who did. Hope everyone enjoys what we did this year

It is with great pride and joy that I release the tenth An OverClocked Christmas album today. Thank you to everyone who participated and tried to participate. Thank you to everyone who listens to the wonderful work of every single musician involved. Without all of you, there would be no An OverClocked Christmas!
