OC ReMix @ Otakon: Site Staff Presents Panel on Video Game Music ReMixing
tgfoo replied to djpretzel's topic in Announcements
Well, I'm glad at least you were able to get a different car so we could make it up to the convention today. It was good to to see some of you guys again today, it's been a while. Anyone planning of being there at all tomorrow? I may head up for a bit, mainly just to spend some money in the dealers room, but if any of you are going to be up there tomorrow as well, i wouldn't mind hanging out for a bit since I didn't really get to spend a lot of time wiht you guys. -
MEETUP: OCR @ Otakon 2007! - Panel was awesome!
tgfoo replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
It's almost that time eh? Unfortunately I'm busy friday morning so I can't make it to the panel and it's doubtful that I'll be at friday's meet up, since I probably won't be able to make it up to friday afternoon. I'll be there on saturday though. -
Watched it earlier today... it just made me want to watch episode 16

Just to add about Claymore, I found the series pretty bland and generic for the first few episodes until they got to the Teresa/Clare arc. It filled the hot anime chick with a huge sword slashing up monsters void that had been in my life. But around episode 6 I started getting interesting in the plot, and after episode 9 I was hooked and have been anticipating the release of a new episode each week. Plus, any show where limbs just suddenly and unexpectedly come flying off can't be all that bad.

When they said it was ending, I assumed that they meant RvB stuff in general, besides maybe an occassional special. But it would be interesting if they started a new show based on halo in the RvB universe. Though, I can't see them doing it in the near future.

I'm not going to say that what the cop did was justified, as I'm sure he probably could have handled the situation better, and I'm not going to say the kids had it coming, but... Kids skateboard in an area where skateboarding is prohibited, and there had been several complaints from people about skateboarding in that area. Cop sees them and tells them to stop. Kids skate away. The cop chases them down. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I've never seen a cop treat someone gently that they've just had to chase down. And then when you and you're friends mouth off to the cop during the entire ordeal...

Question on Monitors and Signal Flow.
tgfoo replied to Nicholestien's topic in Music Composition & Production
Also, don't spend $$$ on top quality d/a and monitors if you have a crappy untreated room. -
Sample libraries with multiple articulations.
tgfoo replied to SSB's topic in Music Composition & Production
Depending on the sampler that you are using for the samples, you may be able to create your own custom keyswitches. I actually prefer keyswitches to loading up individual articulations on each track. Keeps things less cluttered. -

I may be going this year. I'm not sure yet. Depends on how busy/lazy/cheap I am in the beginning of July. Though, I kinda want to keep my 5+ year streak going... -
If I could write/produce a "crappy" song that sold millions of copies, I would do it in a heart beat... One thing about pop music though, you may not like the songs, but a lot of them are catchy, easy to remember, and very well produced. And as long as people keep listening to them, people will keep making them.

SGX and I saw BT live in Baltimore this winter and he performed the entire album. Simply amazing.

I should probably do something about the jumble of cables behind my Mac, but I'm too lazy... And in the corner: I've been told that the minikegs are the best part of the room

External sound card that supports Windows Vista?
tgfoo replied to Whipsmack's topic in Music Composition & Production
Yeah, it does. You can see more of it's specs here: http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?category=610&subcategory=611&product=15186 -
Yeah, he was the guy with the crazy (fake) french accent. Best scene in the movie. Actually, other than Bruce Cambell and a few of the action scenes, this movie was a complete let down. Though I have to admit, Toby Maguire does pull off emo rather well.

Just so you know, the group buy is only for the Pro XP expansion and you need the original library to use it.
-
Is it just with the VSL stuff that you're having a problem with? It might be a DFD issue, did you check those settings?
-
Both Ethno World and RA come with a Kompakt player. I don't own either, but from what I've heard of them, Ethno World has a larger selection of instruments than RA, but RA's instruments are more complete (i.e. more articulations, better sample quality, more round robin/repetition parches). So it comes down to the age old argument of quality vs. quantity.
-
If you're Mac is that old then it wouldn't have come with Garageband. You'd have to buy iLife to get Garageband because it's only a few years old.
-
How old is your Mac?
-
I have several libraries that come with a bundled Kompakt Player and I never use them. I prefer loading them into Kontakt 2.

I know I once heard someone complain about noise on VSL samples and it turned out to be bow rosin. Are you sure that it's not a natural sound that the a Violin produces? I've never heard anyone else complain about it. BTW. I have Gold XP and I never really noticed any weird sounds for either 18V or 11V sections in either the original or XP. (I still don't like the sound of EWQL strings, but that's a completely different thing...) As for the tick of the clock thing, there are a few problems like that in EWQL stuff. I know one of the instruments in RA has a person talking at the end of one of the samples. You could edit it out if it wasn't for the stupid locked samples (I HATE locked samples )

I don't think Finale or Sibelius would be too useful if you wanted to create say, a techno song.

Calculating Pitch/Intonation from Fret ???
tgfoo replied to BuddhaMaster's topic in Music Composition & Production
Welcome. Where'd you find this at? Each fret on a guitar (or bass) increases the pitch by a half step, thus the 12th fret is an octave higher than an open string. For example, on the low E string, open is an E, 1st fret is an F, 2nd fret is a F#/Gb and so on. The fact that your soundfont says "fretless" just means that it's a fretless guitar, it doesn't affect the programing of the notes into your sequencer but a fretless guitar or bass has a different sound that a fretted one. -
Compared to FL and Reason, there really aren't a lot of Logic and Garageband users here that I've seen, and there definitely haven't been a lot of Logic or Garageband specific questions coming up here. If you want a good place to talk Logic or just Macs & music in general I like: http://www.bigbluelounge.com/forums/index.php Of course, I wouldn't complain if there was a Logic forum, but then people would also want a Sonar forum, a Cubase forum and whatever ever other sequencers people use too.
