  1. Poor production, bad sounds, zero arrangement. Come on man, it's Icecap. You gotta do something new with it. This sounds so GM; in fact, it really sounds like a lot of the parts are pulled from a MIDI file. Not saying it's a RIP, since stuff is shifted around, but seriously, there's no originality here at all. NO
  2. Batch submit 63 mixes? Did this guy even read the submission guidelines?
  3. http://www.kirbykirbykirby.com/ The official Kirby site. Also, RotS = Revenge of the Sith.
  4. Pads are bleeding together. NOT GOOD! Needs more definition, at least. Kick is too loud, the percussion is repetitive. This is a really boring arrangement too. It's not much more than pyramiding lines together; unforunately the whole stack of sounds comes out sounding as thick as molasses, and muddy to boot. Instruments need more contrast for separation. It's all a mish-mash right now. I love warm pads, but they need to be utilized a lot better than this to be effective. NO
  5. Too much reverb on the percussion, particularly the kick. Don't make it sound like it's being played at a rave; make it sound like it would sound nice if you played it at a rave. Sounds don't really mesh well, the balance is really off. Some weird note choices here and there too. This kind of song doesn't really work if you use a lot of chromatic lines and/or blue notes. Stay diatonic. Needs more clarity, better mastering, and better composition choices. Not bad, but NO all the same.
  6. I'm not asking for CD cover mockups. I'm asking for samples of work you guys have already done so I can discuss what the album cover will look like after I choose an artist. So don't make RotS logos or anything. Just show me a sample of your work, maybe a drawing of Kirby (which will not necessarily be used for the album cover). So far the only impressive stuff I see is Vilecat's, but I'm still waiting on more people before I decide.
  7. Oh man oh man oh man. Awesome. Ice Brain is like the best track in the whole game; this remix TOTALLY does it justice too. Really tight beat + synth integration. Ridiculously groovy (omgbias). It follows the general progression of the original, but all of the parts are sufficiently tricked out for maximum enjoyment and variation. Can't say anything but YES
  8. Hmm...I don't see anything really impressive yet. Vilecat, school works are fine. It will have to fill out a jewel case for a CD; front, back, and sides.
  9. Yeah, orch hits could have been punchier and meatier, but I really like the what's going on here. It's got a nice beat and you can dance to it. If that's good enough for Marty McFly, that's good enough for me. Anyway, percussion gets the job done nicely with enough change ups to keep things interesting. There could have been less reiteration throughout, but it wasn't a mix killer; it works. Good retro texture, good beats, good stuff. YES
  10. YEAH BUDDY I love the source tune on this one. I suggested this for the source tune waaaaay back during IMC5 and participated myself. Nice choice. As for the mix, it's a very cool concept, arranging for sax ensemble. It's a cool arrangement with some really good harmonic ideas too. I think though, that the execution is a bit lacking. There's some odd timing issues with the way the melody is interpreted; some rushing eighth notes and stuff. Also, the way everything is mixed together sounds kind of lifeless. I think you should seriously get a bunch of players together and record all at once, rather than playing everything yourself, because then players can interact with each other and balace the sound on the fly. You'll get a cleaner sound. I love the concept; don't change it. Work on your execution, and a little bit of arrangement to take advantage of dynamics. I really really really really want to see a resubmit on this, because this song deserves coverage, and a concept like this is too good to let alone. NO PS: Larry, although saxophones are made of brass, they are not considered 'brass' instruments, but woodwinds; this is because they are played using a wooden reed, as opposed to the metal mouthpiece used to play brass instruments like trumpets, french horns, trombones, euphoniums, baritone horns, tubas, etc.
  11. It's got a kind of Ragnarok Online dungeon feel though maybe I'm just playing too much RO though. Anyway it's got a hot groove; percussion is pretty tight with cool change-ups every once in a while. Could have used less high-end though, but that's negligible. Piano and guitar is sweet too; nice texture! This works. YES
  12. Yeah the second half with the distortion is really weak sounding. I don't mind it being mellow, but with a sound like that it's gotta have a really deep feeling to it. It sounds sparse and uninspired like that; a really shallow, getting-through-with-it feel. It's boring! Needs more emotion and energy. NO
  13. Tweaked my piece more and finished it. It's not rendered, but I have it and it's finished, and that's all that matters. Heard a WIP from Beatdrop for Final Star; it's coming along nicely. Also heard a WIP from Trenthian for Star General; also sounds good. I'm looking for a good artist to do album art/cover art stuff. Post a sample of your work here please.
  14. As I said on the front page, this will be considered mixed in with Lava Reef sicne they basically sound the same. No, they are not the same; the songs share a continuo line; however, the melodies are different, and they are even listed as separate zones. Excluding Hidden Palace Zone is excluding a very important song in the game. OK, I'll make Hidden Palace seperate. DON'T ROLL YOUR EYES AT ME I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU (cool )

  16. Except in the game, it's not Doomsday Zone. It's the Final Boss theme; it happens before you enter Doomsday. That's faulty labelling.
  17. Christ, I come back today to find three pages of degeneration into bullshittery. The thread has been manually rolled back. It's so funny when n00bs argue. Anyway, sithlord-aku, you need to be fair and equitable when dealing with potential mixers. This is the nature of the project in the manner that you envisioned it, and as such, you have to be consistent accross the board. To everyone else, that's enough of the bullshittery, please. Carry on.
  18. As much as I love S3&K, it's simply too soon after the Sonic 2 project to be starting this. Also, you have no mixers lined up right now. Recruit first, generate serious interest, get some names, and wait. The timing is not good right now, so soon after the official release of a project, especially of a project in the same series of games. [EDIT] After initiating discussion with sithlord-aku, I have decided to reopen this thread, due to an interest shown by mixers in the community. I am still opposed to the timing of this project; however, because the interest is there, it seems viable for the time being. Unlock, leave.
  19. He works at EA. And yes, I've been talking to him; Star General is almost done; also, I have Beatdrop working on Final Star; he's usually quick about stuff, so I'm not worried about that. As far as a site goes, I need to work on one; I have some really rough sketches sitting around; nothing substantial yet. I have lots of schoolwork (new semester started; I must adjust to my new schedule), so sitting down to do web design is going to take a lot of free time. I will post progress as I make it.
  20. Just want to drop a quick line here; I'm still in, though I've been incredibly busy (not with the Kirby Project, but with real life things like SCHOOL and WORK). I shall endeavor to work on stuff.
  21. Well in this case, he didn't take the original and put drum loops on it; he took an already made song in FLStudio called 'Groundswell' and dropped Quickman on top of it. So its not so much a MIDI rip as it is plagiarism.
