  1. I'm more convinced it's the hair and the folky way of life. Like Gau, you're just... well, natural
  2. Cheers, editing that now to save Polo some much needed stress
  3. It's kind of odd to figure out the context though, because it's actually a huge spoiler for Crash of the Titans; last line of the game at that. Think there may need to be a bit of a debate over this xD Either way, taken the recent crits into account with a fresh revision: --- A breakthrough in platform video-game design, Crash Bandicoot started life on the Sony Playstation, going as far as being an unofficial mascot for the system throughout the 1990s. A reject from Dr Neo Cortex's globe-dominating mutant army, Crash typically sets out to stop whatever diabolical scheme Cortex has to take over the world, usually involving the power of tall purple 'power crystals'. In spite of being enemies, there have been instances of Crash and Cortex working together throughout the series' progression, usually against a different foe. Crash is often joined by the guardian mask Aku Aku, who acts as a mentor and shield; his sister Coco, a much smarter bandicoot capable of hacking into Cortex's data systems and building many gadgets including the virtual 'warp rooms' early on in the series' run; Crunch, an unrelated bandicoot who is obsessed with his fitness and strength; and many small animals that guide them from place to place, including a polar bear cub, a t-rex hatchling and a tiger cub. Crash himself is highly expressive in spite of his limited verbal skills, mostly through exaggerated body language. He's not afraid of getting hurt even with Aku Aku getting in the way, and he would easily throw himself in the line of danger just to do what's right. His range of attacks originally started with a jump and a spin attack - which solidified his namesake due to his 'crashing' into boxes this way - but he eventually learnt new tricks over time, including the belly flop, a slide attack, and even wielding a fruit bazooka! Outside of his adventuring time, he can be seen relaxing at the beach, whether it be sunbathing, wakeboarding, feasting on wumpa fruit, or spending time with his sister Coco and friend Crunch. The original Crash title was critically acclaimed for their 3D-on-rails game design and cartoony visuals, and has sold over 6 million units worldwide. Additionally, Crash is one of very few Western-created game franchises to receive a huge following in Japan. This was further helped by having new cosmetic additions and bonuses exclusive to the Japanese releases, with some being brought back into future Western releases including Crash's signature victory dance and the recurring joke character Fake Crash. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_Bandicoot http://www.stanford.edu/group/htgg/cgi-bin/drupal/sites/default/files2/jdelahunt_2004_1.pdf
  4. I wish I can jump on that bandwagon (yep, I've been there), but you didn't even touch mine. xD Nice showcase tho!
  5. Voted on the tracks this morning - good turnout! Nothing much to add here other than the fact that MindWanderer's track title left me unable to keep a straight face for nearly 10 minutes xD
  6. I even acknowledged this on my Twitter earlier this afternoon. If you're personally happy with what you're doing, then that's all you need. Just don't mind the barbarians around OCR so much, and just focus on the responsibility in the first place. To those who mocked him: if you think someone having a Sonic tattoo is a bad thing, I have two words: Javier Culson. Take that.
  7. USA, UK, Canada, France, The Netherlands. How the hell I got the French and Dutch on my side is baffling me. xD
  8. Well I put in the relevance there because you asked for the relevance behind the boxes. They didn't have a story link - just a way for the Naughty Dog staff to add more challenge to the game if they're all broken. I take in the end there shouldn't be any elaboration on the boxes outside of the whole namesake thing? Most of the time his speech is minimal, or if there is any at all, it's often garbled. In fact, most games have him often saying one word ("Whoa!", being heard if he dies). Outside of kart racers/party games, it wasn't until Crash of the Titans when he finally used his voice some more, but even then his speech is completely garbled and unintelligible (give or take the exclamation of "Pancakes!", but that's about it). Whichever is the case, Crash hasn't canonically stringed an entire sentence together yet.
  9. Alright, here we go again. I've taken Dafydd and Polo's tips to heart and re-tweaked a few things! Sorry for taking so long - you try getting back into things after undergoing surgery, lol. In regards to the "into-the-screen" thing, the best way to describe Crash's original concept is that you're literally guiding him into the screen, or towards you. Think Space Harrier except you can actually stop running forward xD Either way, here's what I have: --- A breakthrough in platform video-game design, Crash Bandicoot started life on the Sony Playstation, going as far as being an unofficial mascot for the system throughout the 1990s. Crash's first game was released in 1996, created by then-unknown game developer Naughty Dog. A reject from Dr Neo Cortex's globe-dominating mutant army, Crash typically sets out to stop whatever diabolical scheme Cortex has to take over the world, usually involving the power of tall purple 'power crystals'. In spite of being enemies, there have been rare instances of Crash and Cortex working together throughout the series' progression, usually against a common foe opposing both of them. Crash would be accompanied on his journey by the guardian mask Aku Aku, who acts as a mentor and shield; his sister Coco, a much smarter bandicoot capable of hacking into Cortex's data systems and building many gadgets including the many virtual 'warp rooms' early on in the series' run; Crunch, an unrelated Bandicoot who is obsessed with his fitness and strength; and many small animals whom would help them run from place to place, including a polar bear cub, a t-rex hatchling and a tiger cub. In most games, collecting all the crystals would be enough to stop Cortex's plan, but the best ending would be obtained by collecting all of the gems - mostly white, but there are several different colored gems that can open up new routes in certain levels. Those gems can be obtained by either exploring difficult paths, or breaking every box in one level. Crash himself can be easily expressive in spite of his limited verbal skills, mostly through exaggerated body language. He's not afraid of getting hurt even with Aku Aku getting in the way, and would easily throw himself in the line of danger just to do what's right. His range of attacks originally started with a jump and a spin attack - which solidified his namesake due to his 'crashing' into boxes this way - but he eventually learnt new tricks over time, including the belly flop, a slide attack, and even wielding a fruit bazooka! Outside of his adventuring time, he can be seen relaxing at the beach; whether it be sunbathing, wakeboarding, feasting on wumpa fruit, or spending time with Coco and Crunch. The original Crash platformers were critically acclaimed for their 3D-on-rails game design and cartoony visuals, with more technical achievements being accomplished further along in the series' run on the PS1. The audio had also been more highly acclaimed as it went on, with all four titles under Naughty Dog's wing being scored by Mutato Muzika - a music writing team including Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh. Furthermore, Crash is one of very few Western-created game franchises to receive a huge following in Japan. This was further helped by having new cosmetic additions and bonuses exclusive to the Japanese releases, with some being brought back into future Western releases including Crash's signature victory dance and the recurring joke character Fake Crash. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_Bandicoot http://www.stanford.edu/group/htgg/cgi-bin/drupal/sites/default/files2/jdelahunt_2004_1.pdf (references cut as per previous post as well)
  10. Not necessarily. Marth's tied in the same position, and even then they're not all that safe - especially considering some of the pushers from 11-15.
  11. I can't count that - pick two other characters for the list and then we'll talk.
  12. This is sounding terrible D: I've got the news out on Twitter, hopefully it should reach someone willing to step in.
  13. That definitely helps! Don't get me wrong - your idea this week is extremely creative and has a great amount of potential. It's even a sweet change in direction from your Week 1 track The problem I had with the track when I first heard it was that I didn't hear Marble Zone all that clearly until right at the end. Mega Water S wasn't a problem at all in comparison, so that worked well in its favor. Even with the breakdown and comparing it to the track, it appears to me that Marble Zone was handled very liberally in comparison, which seems to justify my initial struggle to point it out. Even if the track failed to grab my vote for this week, I still have to say I'm seeing creative potential with you. I even acknowledged that on Friday night and I really hope you can keep bringing those ideas forward and refining your approach
  14. Oh my... I'd love to (sweet source material to boot) but I already have way too much going on this week as it is. Still sucks to be held back by a bunch of animals
  15. Couldn't you quickly get DragonAvenger to do a mini-interlude for that for a small brass group like the pair she did for FF4?
  16. Five days left and there's quite a bunch of characters knocking on the door to barely get into the chosen 10. It's at this point that 99% of all characters got some support, so this is definitely a sweet turnout! Shame the same can't be said for the other 1%......
  17. Amy and Mega Water S mingling in a marble-ladden labyrinth is making me think of this: http://olremix.org/remixes/274 (lyrics may not match the situation, but the backing music... YES)
  18. Gotta have to say, there's been some solid efforts sent through for Round 1! I can definitely see there being a close call for the therex / jnWake matchup - in fact both entries surprised me a lot - but otherwise it's very thrilling stuff! I'm going to pimp a few entries on SEGA Mixer Drive tomorrow, and will continue to keep an eye on the contest's development throughout its run. In vote related news, Tuberz still needs to vote in the other two matchups for his vote in his own to be counted. Get on it, skipper!
  19. ...How's Jooj-Cat supposed to be a write in? What next, OCR-Tan? Larry, should the vote be taken in?
  20. Delays just happen. At least we have an update Of what's going on. I can't wait either, But I've learnt to deal with it, See it run the course. You should do the same. That pledge to the kickstarter Will be worth it, yes? Trust me when I say This album will blow your minds. Better be ready! (Sorry about that But this is appropriate. Haikus ftw.)
  21. Haha, I had no idea this moved to the announcements sub-area. I'm back on track with the votes again, and man it gets more exciting with each new one in. Larry, I think Alucard is considered safe as well xD
  22. That's a first, sending votes towards a social group for a completely different compo! Don't worry, Darke will have you covered on a social group. One will surely be made by the time the first mixes go live. As for the Zone thing, I don't think it's relevant as not every Sonic stage is necessarily a zone; so I'm sure just 'Aquatic Base' is fine. In fact I haven't seen that convention being used since Sonic Advance 2
  23. If the two musics are similar, then I am sure both variations can be referred to. If anything, just be glad no one has Lava Reef
  24. See, Nate knows what he's talking about Link's Awakening is a great handheld Zelda and we know it! Let's see - while it's more likely for me to have a terrible record, I can at least state a few things: - Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly (GameCube) / Spyro: Shadow Legacy (DS) - I used to have the PS2 version of the former, but the GameCube version was just a heck of a LOT more playable and a more go-to if I needed to get any vid feeds from it. Still didn't help the quality of the game. Shadow Legacy, on the other hand, is severely broken and I was lucky to complete it twice, but one look at that and you'd see no wonder why the original arc was completely abandoned. - Animaniacs (Game Boy) - Why I played the hell out of this when I was a kid just baffles me... o.o - Guitar Hero Van Halen (Wii) - Just bought for the sake of filling up my GH game collection. Sure, if you want challenging as hell guitar charts, it's all there; but even then GH Metallica was FAR better if you want something paying a thorough homage to the band being headlined. - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) [PS3] - Bought to catch up on all the major Sonic game releases I missed after playing through Generations. I survived a full playthrough of this though xD - Frogger (PS1) - Probably not giving it as much credit as it deserves given how Frogger games after this have gone, but all I know is that I went shopping for Rage Racer and came back with this under Mom's suggestion, and it just came off as a bland facelift. Like, what? Think that's what's around in my room for the time being. I rarely get films on DVD though as opposed to TV show discs, and even if I do it's just for enjoying the film in the first place. That said, you know something's weird if I consider the worst film in my collection to be the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but I love playing it close to Halloween anyway xD
