  1. theres this although it kinda sucks http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/yearend_chart_index.jsp
  2. they typical fretless sound is more nasal and mellower, and has an attack referred to as "mwah" (cuz thats what it kinda sounds like) caused by the string hitting the fretboard listen to fretless bass by the greatest ever, Jaco Pastorius http://www.amazon.com/Jaco-Pastorius/dp/B00004VWA7/sr=8-1/qid=1170125342/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-2561206-8274416?ie=UTF8&s=music u can really hear the MWAH on Continuum
  3. in terms of sequencing, you could start out with really simple experimentation for example, start with a 2 measure loop and put hihats on every eighth note beat, put a snare on the 2nd and 4th beats of each measure, and put a kick drum at the beginning of each measure.. just a really basic beat then randomly add 2 more kicks for each measure. play it back so you can FEEL what that sequence sounds like then keep moving the 2 kicks around and see what kinda rhythms you can come up with when u get a feel for that, add more kicks in. then add some snares, and then change up the hihats with extra notes or open hats also try listening to a beat and recreating the kick/snare pattern
  4. with the way a lot of theory snobs talk about theory, i can see how people would be turned off by it. theory comes from music, not the other way around. but some people talk like music comes from theory, like its some kind of math equation. yuck
  5. well i'm doing my part too. but i'm still not happy with it.. actually i wanna go even more extreme and go back to the late 70s early 80s mastering, which i consider to be ideal here's an example, Dinorah Dinorah by George Benson from 1980 thats just the perfect looking waveform...
  6. nice simple video but i have yet to hear anybody do anything about the loudness war and lower the volume
  7. dang, too much emphasis on TIMBALAND here. it's obvious he sampled the tune, but i highly doubt he is the one actually responsible for clearing the samples. the Geffen legal team should take the blame here, not timbaland
  8. gooood stuff as always from neskvartetten.. love the Scofield-izms
  9. my Echo MIA is very reliable and I have a latency of 2ms personally, i wouldn't worry about PCI being phased out. I doubt companies would release PCIe cards until it's widespread enough.. which might take awhile oh.. i just found this... http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=3005
  10. this comes after i just ordered something from zzounds yesterday next time...
  11. maybe in bizarro world. lol sho' nuff. UNLESS you mean moving your finger 'up' towards the headstock. this is considered down, because direction is determined by change in pitch. so moving your finger down (towards the headstock) when executing classical vibrato will lower the pitch. dang... so much misinformation spewed on this simple little thread just try this experiment: 1. fret a note with index finger (preferrably high up on the fret board) 2. using index finger, pull the string up towards the bridge while continuing to fret the same note 3. VIOLA! the string tension decreases and pitch decreases MAGIC
  12. yea up means up in the direction of a higher note. on a violin, moving the finger up will just create a higher pitch. whereas on guitar since there's a fret in the way, moving the finger upwards will just reduce the string tension and here's an example of classical vibrato and hand position hand is very relaxed
  13. i dunno what the hell you guys are arguing about it's called vibrato on both guitar and violin. guitar vibrato is actually "backwards" since moving your finger up will actually lower the pitch by reducing the string tension tremolo is something different.. where you move the bow/pick the strings really fast. see this wiki entry back on topic... don't know of any vibrato exercises. really, there's not much you can do other than to just practice it as much as you can. it also helps if your hand is relaxed and in a classical hand position (assuming you're trying to do classical vibrato)
  14. not completely sure what style beat you're talking about.. one of the things i like do in DnB that kinda sounds like "streams of hihats" is put a lot of hats on off beats. the strong beats (each eigth note) are implied with kicks and snares, and i also usually will add a layer of steady 16th hats (or tambourine or whateva you want) to keep the basic beat but i think the syncopated hat pattern is key to achieving that "messy" feel. i have a bad example of it here http://www.dailymidi.com/midis/giant_steps the drums on it are a bit too wild and messy, but its got the general idea. lots of syncopated 16ths and also 32nds
  15. i just made a MIDI of the chord work from my recent track Crystal Potion http://wushuplaya.googlepages.com/gemini03a.mid also i've moved my aldehyde castle flow midi to a new location: http://wushuplaya.googlepages.com/aldehydecastleflow-epgm.mid
  16. i guess i'm just repeating what others have said... but you just need to STOP if you're doodling on the keyboard and playing around and nothing is coming, then just forget it. if the inspiration isnt there, then it isnt there, no need to bang your head and waste time trying to force it. art is something that just can't be forced take a LONG break from music. after awhile you'll probably be itching to get back and the inspiration will come
  17. wow somebody knows of Jerald Daemyon i have that album, and i used to listen to it a lot when it first came out. but since then i've listened to it about 1 time in the past 7 years. i would say that i take almost no (conscious) influence from jazz violinists. there are only a handful of them anyways. most of my more recent soloing is influenced by Jeff Lorber and George Benson
  18. i have the midi for the electric piano part of my aldehyde castle flow http://hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu/~po/aldehydecastleflow-epgm.mid i used like every single chord i knew at the time
  19. A Neumann wouldn't hurt either . You're recording - it's a given that most pre-amplifiers found in mixers no matter what are not good. Invest in a few mic preamps, think something like Presonus, TL Audio, Focusrite, etc. i second the preamp suggestion. if you're serious about recording then it'll be very worthwhile to invest in a good preamp something like this for example http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/180210/ or http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/188218/ btw i'm not really recommending these, i don't know enough about preamps to be recommending anything but i do plan on getting the Twintrak when i have enough money.. it's probably the best bang for the buck value in that price range
  20. this is what irks me. "behaviour of the group" what GROUP? i think people may be reading too much into things and making assumptions about the actions of 2 people (Mustin and JoeCam) to represent the thoughts of an entire GROUP you can read more about it here http://boards.oneupstudios.com/showthread.php?t=2593
  21. it's funny that you mention that, because i was thinking the same thing with regard to all of these similar BEST SONG EVOR replies in this thread i think it's only human nature to want to agree with your friends/peers/group and epsecially people you look up to (in this case that would be any of the judges or DJP). and i have seen this behavior on just about every internet forum i've ever visited. i wish i knew the psychological term for this.... anyways, my point is take a look in the mirror and you'll see the same thing. just a little sumthin sumthin for you guys to think about. like i said before, this is just human nature, and hopefully if you all understand that then we will see less of this unnecessary debate in a freakin remix review thread
  22. lots of hype for this track... i'm not sure any piece can possibly live up to that kinda hype, and i have to say that for me it was not a "life changing experience" or the BEST SONG EVAR!!11!! but i do think this is excellent work.. everything fits in very well. guitar and vocals are good and the whole thing has a nice flying sensation to it. it really brings out the feelings of Secret of Mana
  23. very nice grooove. as a big fan of Incognito, i can definitely hear the Incognito vibe on this track.. i can totally hear a Maysa vocal on top.... well done José
  24. Harmony... GOOD STUFF my man.. GOOD STUFF. i especially dig the guitar solos. its all too rare to hear that jazzy FLAVA on ocr i actually recently had an idea for a springyard arrangement.. but i think i'll just forget about it now
  25. gotta give Jose mad props on this... the instrumentation and production is all very smooth. the whole vibe i get reminds me of the feel of the game (even tho i only played it twice at best buy) vocal production is great, mixes will with the rest of the track... smoooth. the rapping is well done too.. good clarity. and i like your voice gooood stuff
