Is it possible to start a remix project currently? If yes how?
Monobrow replied to tyrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
and uh, Pokemon by that guy up there and also Super Mario 64 (I did say I was forgetting some) anyway this is what I mean, that's a LOT of projects, and these are only the ones that are being at least a little bit taken seriously, there have been plenty of others that people have started and no one was interested... at all, really... -
Breath of Fire IV - Endings and Beginnings remix
Monobrow replied to anosou's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
wow I really enjoyed this... I do agree about things getting muddy when everything is going on... but jeez, you're using everything including the kitchen sink in this song it seems... I really agree about something going on at 2:01, some crisp drums, taiko sounds good too... hell even a triangle dinging there could help with some sort of contrast (or some kind of cymbal) I'd say just a couple hits from the high and low spectrum drum wise would help that part a lot... I also agree with that ending, a little too abrupt... Also I have a suggestion: I think your ending is a nice combination of everything going crazy and all, but I think you could always bring back in that bassline from the beginning during the last few seconds or at least a nod to it (I think that'd really help bring out that part anyway, focus back on those offbeats... accent them with your other instruments maybe about halfway into that part before the ending... then solo the original bassline and fade out with that... hope that made sense, just a suggestion :J anyway nice song -
wow very nice piano... I really love how it rings it's really cool what you did with mostly just piano and strings although I think it could have used a little more volume automation, because everything has a pretty high attack and the dynamic range stays pretty much the same... but still nice

I can add my voice, though I can't really sing... If you need female odds and ends anywhere or talking or w/e the hell... I can do that. Doesn't really seem likely does it? ha -
OCR01404 - Secret of Mana "Dragon Song"
Monobrow replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Just want to say that I still think this is an excellent song. Haven't listened to it in a while until today... When it gets to that acoustic breakdown-thing with the guitar, just perfect... Where did ya go, Harmony? :J Anyway, I have a new appreciation of this song after coming back to it, and it's still great. -
yo majeliss: listening, the intro is kind of sparse, I like those cool booms and bangs, but I think you should have some kind of pad behind this, coming in and out just to help with the sparseness...after say...:15, maybe leading up to that cool drum thingy... also I know this game quite well, so if you need some suggestions on where to take this song, I can probably come up with a bunch production and drums are great... You need some stronger instruments to come in at :37 and really hold that chord... I suggest just your garden variety strings, because having played Chronotrigger, the game mixed both tech sounding music with a more epic, orchestral feel...also I suggest a crash cymbal there too, just for better emphasis.. hybrid this song up! also from about :40-1:00, you need to have something else going on, it's a wonderful soundscape you're making, but I think you could probably afford to have some sort of theme nod in there... Anyway, this would probably be easier on aim, but I just wanted to give you some general ideas... Also, I happen to be working on a song from a game I've never played either, so I know how you feel right now! Maybe we can help each other.

Milky Way Wishes: A Kirby Super Star Tribute - History
Monobrow replied to Arek the Absolute's topic in Projects
Yes, though I guess it will be a sad day when it is finally done in a way, because it's just something that's always been there, and I really had a nice time with other members when this project was in its infancy. I wonder if fusion still idles in #mww -

Chrono Trigger Forest Refuge - ready for a resub?
Monobrow replied to CC Ricers's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is very nice... I kind of wish I had the older version for comparison though. I think my only irk is those chords holding at 1:30 may be just a little too loud/overpowering, (a very teensie bit)... I also think the melody could be brought out a little more (it kind of gets drowned out by your very pretty pads) but I think that's more of an artistic choice, as I can still tell what is going on. I really like how you chilled everything out (relatively) at around 2:45... Though, I think maybe you should have something else coming in at around 3:05 to back that progression (maybe a nod to another CT song?) something I don't know, it just needs that extra something before 3:17. Also, more of that flute from the beginning please... I think I may be hearing it (distortedly and with little tidbits) throughout the song but I think there are places where it could be much stronger, as it seems like it would be the centerpiece of your song from that intro. 3:30 + seems a little weak in the idea department. Honestly, I think a strong flute would help this part a lot, just playing for reinforcement, especially to transition into the style your lead piano thing plays at 3:50. I don't really know what to say about the ending, through I think you should go for a peaceful pad kind of fade out, kind of how your intro came in (with maybe that flute playing notes) Usually an ending like that can be cheesy, but I think this song could pull it off very well. Anyway, grain of salt and all, hope I helped a little. -
We don't really know until Rexy has some spare time. She's pretty much swamped as I understand it. I have a WIP that is about 80% done myself... I guess we just finish our shit and wait for Rexy.

Can you repost this? I've been gone for a bit, I may give it a listen.

Chrono Cross - work in progress
Monobrow replied to The Green Tentacle's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Okay listening Wow that bass is really in your face in the beginning... I'm not sure if it is the right instrument choice (though I really can't think of what could replace it) Anyway, maybe you should consider a fade-in instead of hitting us in the face with it, since it repeats quite a bit until the rest comes in... I'd also consider a traditional phase/filter automation or something for this part too to get the listener ready for the rest of the song instead. The build is pretty traditional, not that that is bad, it's just not as interesting as it "could" be, but as I see it's a genre thing, I won't say it's "boring" to me. I know what you are going for. This actually reminds me of my first remix, albeit way better samples... You have some nice ideas with the melody and combining and layering parts, especially towards the end. I just think you can probably push this to the next level easily. Nice synths, arpegs, and backing pads for texture. There is however, something missing... I think the song needs something else, some countermelody perhaps to go with the main melody that is played through most of the song. Some more chord experimentation, some more harmonizing or more parts to emphasize what you have already. --------- After a couple listens, I think if you really want to make this song shine, I'd be a little more edgy. All your instruments are very similar, maybe you should mess around with some distortion, choose some non-traditional instrumentation in certain places to emphasize the laid back feel you have going through most of the song. The drums on a whole are pretty weak, they could do with some compression, at least towards the end of the song, for a climax. :40 - 1:05 - The melody is a cool start... But you pretty much keep repeating the lead instrument with arpegs in the background through the entire song. You need to mix it up. 1:50 - is cool at first, but I get bored with that plucked synth thing after the first measure or so, I'd really put in some counter-melody or more harmonies to back it... something has to happen here. Hell, even be more true to the source material in little snippets of backing instruments (going in and out, I can't really describe this thought haha) 2:30 - the repetition by now is just grating... Do something to that rhythmic lead that keeps going on and on and on, filter it, crossfade, pan, anything. 3:10 - Have you considered maybe trying fifths or thirds with that melody? I think it'd really help you make the song feel more developed and less repetitive. 3:10 - 4:20 is just the same thing repeated over and over, you really need to either cut this or make it more interesting... 4:20 + I'd consider a piano here instead of that lead instrument, and make the lead instrument do something else, because this is supposed to be a transition leading into the finale, and since the source material is so touching, I really think it needs a more human touch to emphasize what is coming next (if only for this part) 4:40 - that rhythmic lead comes in again, and I see what you are doing, but I don't think it should be the center of attention again, it's a nice reminder, but you really need to have more going on at 5 minutes through a reaaaaaaally repetitive song such as this by now. Consider using more of the source tune, and more intuitive chords/harmonies, counter-melodies etc. etc. Hell, if you have a nice piano sample, I'd use it through the whole song (but that's just me, I love piano) Anyway, I don't mean to sound harsh, it's a nice song to chill to. You must be doing something right if I've taken the time to write this damn review (listened to the song like fifty billion times) Btw, is this FL you are using and defaults, etc.? -
I kind of agree about the drums. They are taking away from the rest of the song and everything is very muddy. The cymbal is like, how would I put it, so pushed out by everything else that it's being cut off and fading in and out and I don't even know how to accurately describe it. :/ But hell yes, MMX
-
What this needs is some lo-fi john lennon chanting "ohm ohm free your mind free your mind oh oh yoko oh yoko oh oh" (maybe you should put a distorted voice in there chanting the melody a little or something)

OCR01600 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Oil Ocean (WT-40 Mix)"

Hey man, great deviant feeling song with the rap and the beatz... In music...top notch... ...if only all this skill went into more credible areas of expertise, like sc >:J -
new crazy wip up that is pretty crazy
-
Well, honestly, if I were you, I'd cut out the entire first part of the song (up to around 1:30?) (with the heartbeat type things) and just start from the weird piano part instead... The intro is way too long... and I kinda feel that the heartbeat thing is a little corny, or just not executed like you may have originally been aiming for. What you do with the source material is creative as far as trance may go, but I think much more can be done...The theme itself is very versatile to work with, so just experiment with the melody and countermelody and the chord progression some more, because I think you really need a more dynamic build as the song progresses.

yeah it is up there for me as well, I just have to get a certain few things out of the way first
