  1. my experience with laser tag is that you just run around and shoot people. paintball actually requires using cover, using covering fire, elevation, etc. It's far more tactical, and gives a lot more feedback. There's nothing quite like dodging paintballs in flight, or diving behind a bunker to avoid getting painted. And you know you're in trouble when you're about to poke your head out and the wall goes "THUD THUD THUD THUD" from someone trying to tag someone about to stick their head out.
  2. My only problem with bullet hells is that while I personally enjoy them, I don't think they're the right kind of game to introduce someone who's trying to start a new hobby. They're not exactly easy.
  3. well, unfortunately, I don't have the specs for the laptop, I just know it was bought in the last 2 months, so it at least has a dual core, but I think it's just onboard intel craptacular graphics. I'll have to ask him directly. He does have Win7 though, so that's a plus.
  4. lol Also one more thing of note, he's not really looking for games to play with other people...so TF2 is right out. Good suggestions, much along the lines of what I was already thinking of.
  5. This guy doesn't seem like the type to like FPS, which is why I'm trying to steer clear of them.
  6. I was just asked by a coworker where would be a good place to start with PC gaming. He's more interested with numbers and manipulation over say, FPS, so I was thinking Civilization games or maybe Sim-something. Brand new gamer, older guy (30's-40's) so nothing fast and frantic. It's got to be very deliberate in pacing, and able to run on a new laptop, but one with basic gaming capabilities (no discrete GPU for starters)
  7. This game keeps tempting me, and I fear one day I will succumb to it's siren song. good thing the learning curve/ui/bland beginning have kept me away so far.
  8. Oooh! It's by the guy who did Iji! SCORE!
  9. For me, it was tracking down where a Disco Dan track came from (I think it was "Magnet Man goes West"). It was originally untagged, but by searching for the title, I found my way here back in 2004-5.
  10. need to doublecheck with my headphones, but pretty sure my hearing cuts out at 19k. I can hear 18k loud and clear, but 19 is blank. 25, was expecting it to go soonish, really rare to hear above 20k after you hit 25, so all of you who can hear it are freaks
  11. So tempted to drop another $100. Lemme study the markets for another week, might do it anyways.
  12. I'm liking it so far, though I'm still pretty early in, only about 5 hours or so. Combat system has some fun potential to it, and I'm happy that everybody pretty much levels equally, even if they aren't active, so I don't have to spaz out about grinding levels...yet anyways.
  13. Same for me, been wanting to play this game, would love to get a beta invite.
  14. yes, but tell me how many other games do that...
  15. wtf, there's a world event to turn you into a freaking BOSS for another player? That's badass. The more I hear about this game, the more I want it.
  16. Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, LTTP, and Yoshi's Island, and Dragon View have sold and are no longer available. Please remove my copies from the front.
  17. freespace may be old, but it's probably one of the best non-starwars space combat sims out there. Both freespace games are well built, very engrossing, and the dogfighting is top notch. Only downside is that the graphics feel dated. Gameplay itself is tight, but it maxes out at 640*480
  18. So I've been playing a lot more recently, and although I'm not sure if I've improved any, I do know that I know the mechanics of the game better, and also know exactly where I screw up now instead of going "what the hell just happened?" I still have a tendency to play tryhard support, but I've been playing more tank/initiator types, as they seem to suit me and my tendency to rush into fights too soon well. I do know there have been several games of late where I didn't feel like I was the cause of our loss, and that I actually had a hand in my team winning the match. I haven't carried a team to victory yet, mostly because my mid-late game is still needing work, but I feel as though I've learned a lot in the past month. And for the record, I suck balls with Hammerstorm. Don't ever ask me to play him, ever. Stick me with pyro or deadwood instead...at least with those heroes I'll stand a chance.
  19. super metroid...it's been about 2 years since I last played it, so I'll probably boot up an emulator and knock it out again, but it's probably my all time favorite game.
  20. Much as I don't want to, I've been working finances, and to do what I want to in the next 1.5 years, I need to save every single penny outside of needed expenses. In short, I'm pulling my tentative showing up. As much as I want to go, I have too many very expensive things entering my life soon.
