urgh, lost my first post. cpu and cooling isn't necessarily your biggest limiter when it comes to overclocking - your mobo is. chipset coolers are a great way to extend the life of your cpu. the high-riser sets are the best on this page, but simple heatsinks will work too. hope you got a good mobo, else you're screwed for OCing. this. a hard drive is a hard drive, unless it's a 10k or an ssd. xigmatek makes an excellent cooler. i'm pretty sure it should fit - i don't work with amd usually since the performance tradeoff isn't worth the monetary difference. i have one of these (lapped) on my e8400 and i got past 4ghz with ease. you might want to get an aftermarket fan, though - the ones that come with it are decent but not super-powered. if you're already ordering from petra's, nab a yate loon oversize (38mm thick) fan, and use pliers to cut some of the excess plastic away so that it still works with the xigmatek mounting system. it does wonders for your cooling temps. i mean, come on - a 120mm fan that puts out over a hundred CFM, and it's thicker so it's got more force to get air through the fins...and it's only like 6 bucks? sign me up! i bought nine when i ordered from there last time. petra's sells psu and fan dampeners, too, for cheaper than anywhere else. worth looking into.

long story short, i can take anyone's arrangement and run it through vienna symphonic library (a recent acquisition of mine). so if you're running short on synths, or only have finale or sibelius, we can work something out easily. i can also take whatever trash you put out and make it make sense. having a degree in this stuff makes that kind of work really easy. if you actually don't know what vsl is, it's the most realistic and extensively sampled orchestral library available today. it's also ridiculously expensive. i need to justify getting this thing. i'd appreciate if you could post this info on your forums, wherever they are, for other musicians as well.

projects aren't an "easy man's way" of getting your name out here. they're just the largest opportunity. take an album of fifty songs. there's usually eight or ten people that are contributing their first mix to the community. since project forums often are places where a lot of feedback is given - more than in WIP, at least - it's easy for a newcomer to improve their craft and their track, as opposed to the WIP forum where there's only three or four regular contributers.

i might do an acapella mix of one of the tracks. that'd be fun.

well, if you're orchestrating Metroid tracks, i think that you'd be pretty close to a remix - since there's so little to go on, you'd be inventing a lot of the parts.

i might be interested on giving it a shot. are these finished versions, though, or just WIPs? i'm only asking because the demos aren't the best of audio quality. also, are all tracks supposed to be orchestrated, or just remixes? because that tallon mix is totally not an orchestra playing there's no limit to posting here, although you'd have gotten noticed more in community. i think this'll probably get moved there sooner or later.

yeah, artifacts. either your computer's overheating because it's getting warm out, or your card's about to go. i doubt he OC'd it if he doesn't know what artifacts look like. load up HWMonitor.exe (free download, no strings attached...NOT hmonitor!) and check out your system temps. if the graphics card temps are under 70 degrees celsius, then your card's going. if they're above that...well, it depends. i have a card that naturally runs at 100c and doesn't have a problem. graphics cards are really easy to replace, so if it's a card issue it's not that difficult to fix it. if you're looking for a new gaming card, look at the 9800gtx+ on the lower end and a gtx 260 core 216 on the higher end. they're cheap and reliable, and if you buy evga you'll get (as with all their cards) a lifetime warranty if you register it. if you just need a basic graphics card, you can get a mid-range card like the 9600gt for around 80$, and a super-basic one like the 8400gs or 9500gt or gs for around 50 at most. and before you ask, pci express 2.0 fits into a pci express slot on your mobo, since there's no physical difference between the slots. also think about upgrading your psu a little bit if you're going for a bigger new card. check out the xtreme power calculator for that info. or just ask me, and i'll tell you what to buy based on your (sizeable) salary.

no, not pal, at least. and i haven't found a store with a wavebird yet in the country. been looking. used 120gb hard drives are 80$ at my store. i get a 20% discount on used hardware, which puts the cost around 64$ or so (55% of the original price!). my store's counterpart, GameZone, recently had a deal where all games under 30$ were 5$. how is that a sale? how can they make money on that? so we transferred every copy of phantom hourglass for the ds, civ 4 and tiger woods 09 for the ps3, and LOTR conquest for the 360 that we had over there, and i bought six total games (30$ total). they each trade in for 12$ a piece after my 20% trade-in bonus. voila, i actually have money left on my account, even after taxes. as for the cable, i just snagged an extra out of the back instead of waiting for MS to ship me one. not bad, eh? if they have another sale, it'll depend on what i can get transferred out before everything's taken. my boss bought like fifteen games (some are going to be christmas presents, though) for 75$. i think they retailed around 350$ or so. he's already got his psp go paid off and has a ton of credit still left on his account.
