hey, everyone. i'm really excited to announce that the iPhone game developer i've been working with for the last ten months, Rogue Pirate Ninja Interactive (RPNi), has officially released our first game for the iPhone and iTouch, iRis AG. iRis AG/iRis AG Lite $1.99/Free (!) the basic premise behind iRis is that it's an inversion of Tetris's gameplay. instead of moving and manipulating the blocks to fit into the base, you spin the base itself - a circular centroid that each block attaches to - and allow the free-falling blocks to latch onto it. it's a premise similar to tetrisphere, the n64 game that i tried to get a project going for (before getting bored and stopping). here are a few screens for our game. in terms of the technical side of things, iRis AG uses a custom-built engine, geWiz ES, created by OCR's own Johannes_Von_Luck. with over 80 thousand lines of code, the engine is a technical feat of engineering in and of itself, considering that johannes basically did everything himself in a relatively short amount of time. the game features a colorblind mode, settings to take advantage of the extra power of the 3GS, and a widescreen mode. now, why am i pimping this game? easy. i wrote the entire soundtrack for the game, and did all the sound effects as well. as my first shipped product, i'm very happy with what came out of it. the biggest limitation, besides the crappy speaker on the iPhone, is the fact that i could only use one key for the whole OST. because of the nature of the game, tracks had to flow into one another with very little outro or intro, so the entire soundtrack is in D minor, with some slight variations on the dominant and subdominant. another reason for this was that the sound effects, all of which are pitched and not just noises, are used for the whole game - meaning that every song had to be able to use D minor-themed sfx. update: the game is being sold in the App Store for $1.99. the free version, iRis AG Lite, is available for free. the OST is freely available from the website, at this link, as well as some wallpapers made by our artist. i'd also encourage you to look at the website itself, as johannes and our web dev Jaelle has done a lot of work on it. here's a video of the gameplay. links: Rogue Pirate Ninja Interactive Official Website - info about the devs, game, and other random topics. there's also a support and conversation forum. RPNi's Twitter account - johannes is very active on this. RPNi's YouTube account. we'll post gameplay videos and teasers for our next project here. RPNi's Myspace account. 'Nuff said.

yeah. interestingly enough, i hold for that person no ill will. it was his decision to steal my computer that got me into the world of building desktops. that in turn got me the cash to buy my 360. two major events in my life =)

Newbie remixer looking for some help
prophetik music replied to TheWhiteHowler's topic in Music Composition & Production
there are demo versions of each of those programs that he might be downloading. if that's what he's getting, he's fine. if he's downloading them illegally, well, he's a stupid idiot for saying out loud that he did that. play around with the different programs to get the hang of it. FL is way better than reaper in that regard - you can start making sounds right away rather than dicking around with settings. -
sometimes it takes luck to figure out a puzzle or two. i know i had that happen - i just couldn't make it work, and then something clicked.

i'm pretty excited about this. haven't had a chance to play 2 yet, but it looks excellent.

wow, i wish i had netflix. that looks absolutely phenomenal. i get free rentals at work, though, so that makes it kind of irrelevant.
-
it was a while ago, about a year after i finished the track originally. i showed it to a few buddies, and they freaked about it and wanted to do it live...so we did, at a talent show thing on campus. had a recording, but i lost it when my computer was stolen that year.
-
wish i had the recording of when i did viridian vibe live, with live drummer, synth player, bassist, gutiarist, rhodes guy, and a hand percussionist.

my boss has been creaming himself about that game for months. he played it at a convention in Las Vegas recently, and said that it made him even more excited about it.

I want to build you a computer

graphics cards, mobos, power supplies, and the like are getting to the point where you go with your experiences with that particular brand. i have never had an issue with nvidia, and i'm all about the green machine - i've used an ati card once, out of thirty cards purchased (cheap HDCP-compatible tv box). go figure =) -

they made a 3850 radeon card for the pci slot. beyond that, there's very little - the bandwidth limitations on the straight pci bus really, really limit what can be done without just having overkill. expect to pay a lot for a little, too - the nature of upper-tier pci graphics cards (upgrades made on a crappy and/or super-old pc by people who can't afford a full computer but have money to spend) means that you pay through the bloody nose. edit: 4.3.2, page 28. the 3850 came out after i finished the faq, but most of the info still applies. -

requests is for all requests. if you want to hear remixes of starcraft songs, you can make a general post there detailing what you mean. just don't expect anything. it's rare for things to come from requests, in case you didn't notice. -

cn, try starting out completely new. just dump what you've got and try a different direction. usually you'll think of cool new stuff, if nothing else. i wonder what aj-enova said. -
DAW = digital audio workstation = reaper, fl studio, reason, etc. the music programs ARE the DAW. alternatively, DAW also refers to a computer set up solely for music work.
