  1. you're mistaking me here, yoozer. you're saying it's a brilliant marketing ploy. i happen to agree with you. i also think that garbageband is complete shit, because the thing they removed is not something like saving or writing more than ten minutes of music or printing or something - they removed midi functionality, which is something that more than 75% of the people that ever touch garageband don't even know exists. which is really lame. if it was something a little more basic, they'd have a lot more people gateway-drugging up to the next level than already do. this is why logic is illogical.
  2. don't forget that ff7 had (at the time) ground-breaking graphics, which was a major reason that it was on so many discs. they didn't know as much about compression and hadn't worked out some of the techniques to take up less space on a disc that they did with ff8. it wasn't lazy, vyse, it was just a technical choice to have better graphics and lower-quality music rather than the other way around.
  3. maybe. it depends on what you do with it. if you make a song that sounds like everyone else's garageband creations, then you might be. if you actually attempt to do something unique with it, we don't care what you use.
  4. they didn't use mp3s on the N64 until way late because it took until then for the carts to be able to hold their maximum (64mb). mp3s were just too large of a file format to use for audio when they had to cram all the rest of that content into the system. ps1 didn't have that limitation. once they figured out how to real-time compress the files so that it didn't take up half the cart, they were fine. by then, though, the n64 was on its way out. ff7 used midi because it was early in development, yes.
  5. there is a lot of software that should run on 32-bit windows but doesn't, for some reason. i don't really know why the manufacturers (melodyne comes to mind) haven't taken the time to do it. you should wipe and start over on your install drive. the reason for this is because xp64 isn't an enhanced version of xp32 - if it was there'd be way more support for it. it's a complete architecture and coding paradigm shift over 32, meaning that code has to be written specifically for it (in most instances). that's why no one actually writes for it.
  6. the works in progress (WIP) forums are where you would go for something like that.
  7. right, i know. i was explaining why the issue was happening to begin with.
  8. something to remember is that no application can access more than a certain amount of RAM. like, in 32-bit there's a limit of 2000mb, and in 64-bit there's a limit that i don't remember off the top of my head (i think it's 3000mb, but don't quote me on it).
  9. your sig is hilarious

  10. kotor and halo 1 come to mind. halo 1 was such a grind in the library, i hate that section.
  11. welcome! you're actually farther along than a lot of the people around here =)
  12. why only battle themes? there are a lot of other songs out there that are intense and not necessarily related to the fight scenes in an rpg.
  13. was there anything special about the song's encoding?
  14. wait, aren't you not even american or something? i actually did that for a specific reason. i'm sick of reading these articles and technical descriptions that take everything too seriously. they're not even enjoyable to read. no caps means that people take what i write with a grain of salt instead of just assuming that i'm some super computer man or something. i mean, hell, i referenced so many sources for this that i lost track and just didn't even cite anything. it's obviously supposed to be humorous in parts, too. would 12.7 have the same impact as it does now if i tried to be serious for most of the rest of the guide? it's also a bit of a trademark of mine, and i felt like continuing it. edit: so i kind of want a front cover. anyone want to make me a graphic?
  15. excellent image. i can't stress enough how much hassle backing up my older stuff would have saved me. now i'm stuck with most of my pre-2007 music output completely gone (my computer was stolen in 3/07).
  16. no offense, nubman, but don't you think that you should actually contact the manufacturer through their forums or website instead of coming to a community populated mostly by musicians? i'll bet they know more about your specific brand of problem than almost anyone here will.
  17. until july 7th, get the following twenty games for 54$ on steam at this link. that's almost 250$ of games, right there, for 54$. after july 7th, it goes up to 60$ still a ridiculous deal. civ 4 and the expansions alone are worth that, not to mention bioshock, the railroad series, prey, and the x-com pack. totally worth getting! i know that i'm probably going to pick it up, if only for the x-com series.
  18. there's a guy on the FLStudio forums who was using a p3 until they took it out of the backwards-compatibility lineup. the issue is bandwidth - how fast the info can get across the usb port and through the pci bus. most laptops have remarkably poor bandwidth across their pci bus (which is the highway the usb bus uses to communicate to the computer) since generally the integrated graphics, all keystrokes and mouse commands, and pretty much everything else use it instead of being directly dumped into the chipsets like on a computer.
  19. actually, his laptop would have horrid lag with a usb-based keyboard, because it doesn't have the processing power to keep up. there'd be a definite delay in his playing. if he didn't mind that, he'd be fine - but i doubt he would be.
  20. thanks, mike, i'll look into those. i just know i wouldn't like the vocals - that's what turns me off to them. i rarely like folksy vocals unless they're really high-quality like in, say, Nickel Creek.
  21. even if i already own akoustik piano, guitar rig, absynth, massive, and b4 II, that's a good deal.
  22. he's done a lot of remixes - the pendulum remix is a fantastic example of it - but he's only got one specific album out until now. i love his stuff, so i'm totally going to pick up this disc.
  23. i'd suggest doing those genre things yourself. i use the comments field in most mp3 tags for this, so i can just search and organize by them if i want.
