  1. why only battle themes? there are a lot of other songs out there that are intense and not necessarily related to the fight scenes in an rpg.
  2. was there anything special about the song's encoding?
  3. wait, aren't you not even american or something? i actually did that for a specific reason. i'm sick of reading these articles and technical descriptions that take everything too seriously. they're not even enjoyable to read. no caps means that people take what i write with a grain of salt instead of just assuming that i'm some super computer man or something. i mean, hell, i referenced so many sources for this that i lost track and just didn't even cite anything. it's obviously supposed to be humorous in parts, too. would 12.7 have the same impact as it does now if i tried to be serious for most of the rest of the guide? it's also a bit of a trademark of mine, and i felt like continuing it. edit: so i kind of want a front cover. anyone want to make me a graphic?
  4. excellent image. i can't stress enough how much hassle backing up my older stuff would have saved me. now i'm stuck with most of my pre-2007 music output completely gone (my computer was stolen in 3/07).
  5. no offense, nubman, but don't you think that you should actually contact the manufacturer through their forums or website instead of coming to a community populated mostly by musicians? i'll bet they know more about your specific brand of problem than almost anyone here will.
  6. until july 7th, get the following twenty games for 54$ on steam at this link. that's almost 250$ of games, right there, for 54$. after july 7th, it goes up to 60$ still a ridiculous deal. civ 4 and the expansions alone are worth that, not to mention bioshock, the railroad series, prey, and the x-com pack. totally worth getting! i know that i'm probably going to pick it up, if only for the x-com series.
  7. there's a guy on the FLStudio forums who was using a p3 until they took it out of the backwards-compatibility lineup. the issue is bandwidth - how fast the info can get across the usb port and through the pci bus. most laptops have remarkably poor bandwidth across their pci bus (which is the highway the usb bus uses to communicate to the computer) since generally the integrated graphics, all keystrokes and mouse commands, and pretty much everything else use it instead of being directly dumped into the chipsets like on a computer.
  8. actually, his laptop would have horrid lag with a usb-based keyboard, because it doesn't have the processing power to keep up. there'd be a definite delay in his playing. if he didn't mind that, he'd be fine - but i doubt he would be.
  9. thanks, mike, i'll look into those. i just know i wouldn't like the vocals - that's what turns me off to them. i rarely like folksy vocals unless they're really high-quality like in, say, Nickel Creek.
  10. even if i already own akoustik piano, guitar rig, absynth, massive, and b4 II, that's a good deal.
  11. he's done a lot of remixes - the pendulum remix is a fantastic example of it - but he's only got one specific album out until now. i love his stuff, so i'm totally going to pick up this disc.
  12. i'd suggest doing those genre things yourself. i use the comments field in most mp3 tags for this, so i can just search and organize by them if i want.
  13. i know - it's rare to find a female vocalist who actually has some talent and training without sounding all hooty (this coming from a guy with a degree in music ed )
  14. the whole point was to prevent people using hamachi or something to get around the checks that Battle.net used to prevent people playing with hacked copies online. i'm sure someone will find a workaround quickly enough.
  15. all this complaining about how sc2 looks - it's all nostalgia. really. ten years after the original, you can't seperate your feelings about the original from the stark truth - which is that the sprites in that game look terrible compared to anything available today because the graphics were so damn bad.
  16. hah, like the YES and NO pictures from that amusement park? that'd be awesome.
  17. i have to admit that, after recently playing through starcraft 1 some more, i fear the release of this game. i'll be dead, totally dead in my chair, if it looks even half as good as these screens look.
  18. can i just point out that i have slept with andy on numerous occasions? he's been one of my magfest roomies for two years now, and no one sleeps with him but me. we're exclusive, you know.
  19. if you're looking for computers, tman, i do a lot of system building for people on the site on the cheap. give me a ring, you won't be disappointed =) at the very least i can help you out with deals. welcome!
  20. this is incredible. can we get some more like this on the site? also, love the piccardy third at the end
  21. of course you didn't. if you'd have recruited, shael and xenon odyssey would have been new judges. everyone else would have run for the hills. he hasn't posted yet. does he know he's a judge?
  22. i don't know if anyone noticed, but i said specifically i didn't want mixes with vocals. all i've heard of don ross has his voice unnecessarily protruding into his great guitar work - can you recommend specific songs to pick up?
  23. i've been listening to a lot of solo acoustic guitar music lately. solo means no other instruments than the guitar (although more than one is ok) - no vocals, no drums, blah blah blah. i've always enjoyed jason truby's guitar work, and his solo albums are fantastic. his work with P.O.D. during his tenure there is my favorite period of that band's history, too. i've also enjoyed some of chris thile's solo mandolin and guitar work (he's the ridiculously talented mandolinist in the progressive bluegrass band Nickel Creek). john williams the guitarist released a country/bluegrass album of just solo guitar arrangements of folk tunes that's awesome - i believe it's called 'hand-picked' or something similar. does anyone know other artists in this genre? i'm not going for classical or jazz guitar as much as folk, bluegrass, and rock stuff. thanks in advance.
  24. so, are you the singer in Flickerfall? if you are, awesome. you're a fantastic singer, as i've told vinnie a few times. love your music.
