  1. A lot of the samples in professional mods, anything done by Brandon or Michiel especially, consists of loops, not just notes. Specifically, UT's BOTMCA#10 by Michiel Van Den Bos is almost entirely drum/organ loops. Great song, but it won't withstand any mod to midi conversions without manual transcription.
  2. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/02/26/game.tunes/index.html for interviewing Pixelh8, mentioning Aleksi Eeben, and the beginnings of chips as meager cracktros

  5. I have stumbled upon this thing: http://www.morganleahrecords.com/mooglecharm/programs.html try some of them out
  6. I started LOLing when psycho mantis showed up
  7. because I can't use PDT or PST without dicks Channel as always is #soundtempest on irc.esper.net Hopefully more people will show up this time. I'll try to get #renoise and #mod_shrine in on the action too. For the uninitiated: CompoSTs are OHCs that have been going on in #soundtempest since a long ass time ago, we show up with our audio apps and make a song in a winamp-supported format that follows a videogamish theme in an hour. Remind me to do voting tomorrow night too, finally.
  8. Finally, another UNATCO remix! Worth submitting? Well, it's already better than my old VGMix. Still, there's a few issues I think the judges will look for. The song doesn't really go anywhere, the song doesn't have any high points or low points. Then again, for a chill electronic piece, this isn't really required. At least in my book. You might also improve the mixing to make the song sound a bit more full - the panning is already good. Try experimenting with stereo separation and use the EQ to give the drums a bit more presence. Not so much that they drown out the synths though I would suggest logging onto irc.enterthegame.com and joining #ocrwip for some probably better feedback. You're already cool for mixing Deus Ex, and I think this song has some potential, but force feedback [lol] out of some more people because I probably missed some key issues and I can't figure out what they are.
  9. Excellent concept and song titles you already know what I think of your music
  10. We had the Bride of Pinbot table at Magfest 6, it was totally hott didn't know there was a NES game for it! If Akumu's NSF archive were up right now I'd tell you to use that. I don't know if he has Pinbot but he has a shitload of other stuff on there.
  11. Okay! I disagree, animation is not country-specific, if they like certain anime they might want to check out some American, some Korean, maybe even some French animation. So I think we should include stuff like Batman in the discussion. Mainly because Batman kicks ass.
  12. Aha, but that's where you're wrong! I am a Renoise and Modplug user
  13. http://soundtempest.net/soc/single/oc-chococornet.mp3 3 channels, 1 of them used up by PCM DRUMLOOP
  14. and fucking bloody irritating when clicking everything in with a mouse arararearara:<
  15. Chiptune shows can get boring [sorry wizwar and virt!], when it's just one guy with LSDJ looking at a gameboy for the whole set [and of course the occasional fist raise or head bop]. When you add live instruments into the mix, it's like an actual concert that way.
  16. Lucky! In middle school/high school I had my trusty CD binder. God, it weighed like 10 pounds and there was like 60 CDs in there full of nerdmusic. And I would stick the CD player in the leg pocket of my cargo pants D: And back then the OC Remixes were way shittier but I loved them way more than I do now somehow. I have 2 or 3 CDs full of Children of the Monkey Machine stuff :3
  17. The freeware issue is a case-by-case thing. You can't just remix what-the-hell ever game, it has to have achieved some kind of fame throughout the internet, like Cave Story, or the Touhou games [especially the touhou games], and Barkley Shut up and Jam: Gaiden hint hint
  18. Judging from this, not very much at all. Temp Sound Solutions gets a shit load of my time, though. Also I've been listening to VGM/SPC music a lot lately. ONE OF THESE DAYS I will remix a videogame tune again. One of these days.
  19. Just FYI, I made that comic as a joke, and because I was too obsessed with Churuya at the moment :3 Then larry and I tried to act it out IRL and he didn't know what to do. I was heartbroken.
  20. Well, there's that whole "remixer exodus" thing, but few people even remember it happening. I'll be damned if I can remembery any juicy details.
  21. It's actually really easy when all you've got is synths and samples, but once you incorporate live instruments and other recorded things it just gets URGH and that's why I make minimal techno
