Too many articles to really link to only one.

So, basically, EA is trying to expand even further. And if they get Take2, that means they also get ahold of 2K sports titles. So they would basically have a monopoly on sport games. Well, outside of anything Mario or Sonic-based, that is.

Remember EA commenting about one universal console? Looks like this may be a step towards them doing it themselves.

Riccitiello, in fact, points to their new label model, one inspired by conversations he had with Rockstar's as proof that Take-Two and it's developers would find a happy home at EA.

Except for the folks making the 2K sports games. Those people will get a nice fruit basket and a hearty pat on the back as they're escorted from the building

Take-Two already said no.

They pretty much said no for now, but still plan to make discussions with EA later on.

While the Board believes that entering into discussions with EA at this time is not in the best interests of shareholders, we had offered to enter into a good-faith dialogue with EA to determine if our companies can reach common ground on the appropriate value of Take-Two as a first step to realizing a mutually beneficially transaction. However, given the great importance of the Grand Theft Auto IV launch to the value of Take-Two, the Board has determined that the only prudent and responsible course for our Company and its stockholders is to defer these discussions until immediately after Grand Theft Auto IV is released. Therefore, we offered to initiate discussions with EA on April 30th, 2008 (the day after Grand Theft Auto IV is scheduled to release).

I really do think that EA is the Wal-Mart of the games industry. I'm serious. I could draw all kinds of parallels.

"We believe EA's unsolicited offer is highly opportunistic and is attempting to take advantage of our upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV, one of the most valuable and durable franchises in the industry"

Yes, I think so too. Look, EA has made a site about acquiring take 2!

refresh my memory again why you people hate EA?

I gotta go with the status quo on this one. Now, I have no problem with a high quality company going ahead and creating a monopoly over.... whatever. But the idea of EA, whose in house games usually look to me like some half-assed crap that went through a five week development cycle before being pissed onto the nearest bestselling console? No. No, no, and again, NO.

Not that it will ever actually HAPPEN, because capitalism in and of itself dictates that a competitor with a higher quality product, even if it's available in lesser quantities, will eventually win out. But the idea of a universal console from EA is laughable, because what it really means is "Damn, it costs us a lot of money to release each game on the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, XBox, Gamecube, PSX, N64, SNES, Genesis, NES, Megadrive, DS, GBA, GBC, Gameboy, and Atari! It'd be nice if we could piss our stuff onto just one BIG system to save ourselves some money!"

I wouldn't want a company to buy me either if their average review score for their games are dropping :P

i would if it meant that i could essentially retire and be a philanthropist for the rest of my natural life on the money i'd make off of it. or just start another company somewhere else and support myself on the interest of what i made from that transaction.

money typically wins in these situations.

I believe there was a blog by a EA workers wife that chronicled the long list of things, like extra hours of work with no breaks or overtime pay, no notice of termination, violating several state and federal labor laws... someone else will surely post the link after this.

I dont have a link to it but their quallity in sports games has dropped off. Everything that has been stated so far is pretty much true. These guys are a fucking menace and too large to knock off easily. Microsoft is bad but i go to bed every night thanking god EA doesnt make operating systems. Thats how bad they are.

Well, for you, that's fine. It's your decision as to whether or not you support EA. But I won't. Full-on boycott for me.

But what about those people who are not only sports games, but to the games of companies who are taken over by EA and lowered in quality and potential. I personally think that most of EA's employees are good people, and some of their games I've seen lately seem to have a bit of innovation, but the negatives still outweigh the positives. I don't like it when companies put being #1 as their highest priority then use unfair, aggressive, opportunistic takeovers against little guys.

I can understand some of these actions for smaller, struggling companies, but EA (or the big boys who are in charge) are big bullies taking lunch money from the frail, nerdier students.

You are free to like them, and I don't think any lesser of any of you for that.

Do bullies pay their victims millions and billions of dollars to own them?

If so, where the hell have these bullies been in my life?

Nothing wrong with a company trying to secure other ventures. We'll see when Red Alert 3 comes out. If there is noticeable suckiness, then I will start to complain.

EA's attempt to acquire Take Two wasn't that "nice". They started a website as to "why take two is wrong for not taking the money". They also did this right after GTA 4's near-completion, since it's stock is rising every day now. Very opportunistic. Take Two also claims that the offering price was understating their actual worth. I kinda believe it too.

Alright, assume for a second that I really don't give a flying fuck about sports games.

And assume for a moment, that you read up on how that lawsuit radically changed EA's relationship with its employees for the better.

Now, I'll ask again:

What's your people's beef with EA?

Maybe it's the fact that they pump out games of low quality all the time. Maybe it's the fact that they are becoming a monopoly and no one seems to want to do anything about it. Maybe people don't like that they buy out studios with proven track records and then transfer or even fire the very people that made the studio so good. Maybe it's that they then pump out sequels to good games that aren't up to the quality of the originals.

It could just be them, though.
