prophetik music Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 so, which should i get? and why? i've got the pc version - well, it's someone else's copy, so i've gotta give it back now - and i'm debating between buying the haxbox version or the pc version. pros and cons, please - i'm gonna make a list =) pc: everyone cheats on pc mouse/keyboard = sex xbox360: have to use a controller =( not as smooth as pc Quote
BardicKnowledge Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 The HL2 gameplay isn't nearly as smooth or comfortable on 360. TF2 you'll get by okay, but if you want to play through the single player stuff, you'll like it much better on the PC -- it just feels like it belongs there. Note that this assumes you can run the Source engine games without a lot of lag etc. Edit: PC version also gets the new maps, mod support, etc. Quote
Bigfoot Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 PC just because you can use keyboard/mouse. Quote
prophetik music Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 should post my system specs e6850 c2d overclocked to 3.6ghz 4gigs of ddr2-800 ram, oc'd to 1066, timing 3-3-3-9 evga 8800gts way too much hard drive space aka - i can run most anything that's not obnoxious (crysis) Quote
DarkeSword Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Uh, if you can run it on PC just get it on PC. Quote
GhaleonNow Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 You might as well ask "Would I like to drink water or sewage?" If you have a decent PC (and HL2 is a couple years old) I can't think of any reasons to play a console ver over PC, unless you chiefly want to play w/ your 360-owning friends or something. PC always = customine graphics/framerate, mods, cheaper game price, much better control options. Quote
Penfold Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Uh, if you can run it on PC just get it on PC. I agree, which is exactly why I got the 360 version. At the time I didn't have a computer capable of running it...though now that I do, I won't bother rebuying it since I got it exclusively for Portal. Quote
Hemophiliac Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 the fact that you can play with everyone else from ocr is more pro then anything, besides...most servers are secure. no worries about hackers. get pc Quote
Schwaltzvald Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Definatly PC, that way I won't have the option to poke fun at you mandatoraly for letting your self get locked out of a lot of custom content. *I'm looking at you 360 halo players lulz* Plus the cheaters/hackers are not as prevalent as they used to be back in the old days. For the most part, most server admins are competent and are on top of bullshittery; usually taking care of the garbage asap. They never stay long enough to empty a server unlike the old days... Quote
PlastikBag Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 PC is pretty much always the superior option when it comes to PC/Xbox 360 games. Keyboard and mouse is a superior control scheme, graphics are better on the PC, server based gameplay is superior, most servers are secure, cheating isn't too much of a worry. Quote
prophetik music Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 well, that handles that. i'll get the pc version. Quote
Bahamut Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Might as well get it on PC since probably more people play it on that and most of OCR does as well (if you plan on playing with the lot of us). PC just because you can use keyboard/mouse. The mouse so far has been very annoying for me to use (general usage) - it has been giving me some wrist pain, and I wouldn't have chosen Orange Box for PC if not just for the benefit of playing with other OCRers for this reason alone. prophetik music Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 i'm an m/k king, so i'd prefer that if possible. Quote
Effef Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 everyone cheats on pc I don't know where you pulled this from, I have encountered perhaps one person using an aimbot. And he got banned 5 minutes later. Quote
Fishy Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Driving games are pretty much the only games that will ever be better on a console if your PC can play it just as well imo. PC. Quote
Antipode Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I don't know where you pulled this from, I have encountered perhaps one person using an aimbot. And he got banned 5 minutes later. Yeah valve seems to usually be really good about this kind of stuff. Quote
Maco70 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I own it for 360. I can say positively that you should get it for PC if it can handle it. I personally prefer console (and a controller for that matter), but 360 users get shit on with updates. I doubt we'll ever get the new TF maps, or patches that the game desperately needs. Ever been back stabbed by a spy while in your spawn point? Pisses me off... Quote
Brushfire Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I don't know where you pulled this from, I have encountered perhaps one person using an aimbot. And he got banned 5 minutes later. He got it from me becuase I am disgruntled with the aimbotting that runs rampant on Korean servers. Quote
prophetik music Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 He got it from me becuase I am disgruntled with the aimbotting that runs rampant on Korean servers. hah koreans cheat in every game ever. guild wars, this, haloz... Quote
SwordBreaker Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Speaking of that, does anyone know if they ever patched the PS3 version? I heard that one was plagued with slowdown and whatnot. Quote
The Mutericator Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I have encountered, in 70+ hours of playtime, only one or two people I even suspected as aimbotting, and one case where someone built a sentry underneath the level using a glitch (which has long since been fixed). PC version, by far. Quote
