FR Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I feel like a dumbass because I didn't understand what was funny about this video until I read the comments. Quote
FlagshipAmadeus Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 He's all like "the most popular song in 5/4 time is a well known song called Take Five" or whatever but unless I am mistaken, isn't the Mission Impossible theme song in 5/4 I am pretty sure that is a better known song Quote
po! Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 haha i read the title of this thread and as i clicked on it i was thinking i would post a link to that vid cuz i just saw it yesterday. then i clicked the link and BAM Quote
Moseph Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 He does 6/8 ("very similar" to 3/4) and 11/4, too! EDIT: Ahahaha! And experimental jazz! Quote
Palpable Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hey, c'mon now, his song is clearly in 5/4. It just sucks. Quote
Sam Ascher-Weiss Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that was Victor Borge level genius. The deadpan delivery and lengthy build up leaves you completely unsuspecting. I'm kind of jealous I never thought of anything like this myself. Quote
djpretzel Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I've been planning on ReMixing Deejay's theme in 5/4... this video provides useful instruction & example that I will try to incorporate. Quote
DarkeSword Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 oh my god that was hilarious haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa xD Quote

The deadpan delivery and lengthy build up leaves you completely unsuspecting. I'm kind of jealous I never thought of anything like this myself. I don't think it's a joke. If it is, he is an incredible actor with an extremely developed sense of humor. Find some footage of him doing standup, sketch comedy or anything else besides this video series and I will agree with you, but I'm pretty convinced he's just some poor kid who's way out of his depth. If he was that talented he wouldn't be wasting himself on legitimate howto websites. Quote
SLyGeN Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I don't get it. He's counting too fast. What's the punchline? Quote
FR Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I don't get it. He's counting too fast. What's the punchline? I thought that it was that he is basically teaching people how to count to five but that probably not it. Quote
K.B. Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 AH!Ahahhahahaha!!! That was priceless. Jeez, it has to be a joke because even I get it and I don't know jack about music (at least compared to the folks who post here on music theory). He's all like "the most popular song in 5/4 time is a well known song called Take Five" or whatever but unless I am mistaken, isn't the Mission Impossible theme song in 5/4 I am pretty sure that is a better known song I think he took for granted that, since his youtube title had "Jazz Piano" in it, his listeners would know the songs from one of the most famous jazz albums ever recorded. Take Five is pretty well known. Maybe not as well known, but it does have "five" in the title. It was the first 5/4 song I thought of, in any case. But why nitpick when he's got something so blatantly wrong to make fun of? Quote
spacepony Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I've been planning on ReMixing Deejay's theme in 5/4... this video provides useful instruction & example that I will try to incorporate. Can you incorporate a Halloween type motif over the top of it? Steel drums should do quite nicely. That would be sweet! Michael Myers with a pair of maracas, thats where its at. Quote
suzumebachi Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I thought that it was that he is basically teaching people how to count to five but that probably not it. Mostly it's the part where he's playing 4/4 yet somehow counting to 5. Quote
JJT Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Mostly it's the part where he's playing 4/4 yet somehow counting to 5. Or trying to, anyway. You can see his mind breaking. Quote
DarkeSword Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I don't get it. He's counting too fast. What's the punchline? The punchline is that what he's playing is in 4/4 time. Quote
Gario Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 lol. What can I say, it's funny when people do stupid things. It's even funnier when they don't know that they're doing them. Quote
Skrypnyk Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Just a note: This video was brought to you by expert village. Expert village is notorious for not knowing how the fuck to do anything properly. Quote
