Brushfire Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Updated the MOTD to explicitly state that pornographic sprays are not allowed. Wait, we've been keeping porno sprays out. What the cha?
Nabeel Ansari Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Wait, we've been keeping porno sprays out. What the cha? I've seen way too many for that to be a true statement. At least a couple months ago I did. (yeah I admit that was when tf2 went free) I couldn't tell any mods because there were none. Just TFNoobs.
phill Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Updated the MOTD to explicitly state that pornographic sprays are not allowed. Question is, do my sprays break that rule?

D-Lux Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Question is, do my sprays break that rule? IMO, and as the mod who unarguably receives the most backlash for discipline on this topic, you toe the line quite carefully. I'll leave it at that.
ParanoidDrone Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Wait, we've been keeping porno sprays out. What the cha? There was a kerfluffle (I love that word. Kerfluffle.) a couple of weeks ago where some guy had a spray that showed gratuitous amounts of sideboob, albeit no nipple, and Yahoo told him to stop using it. The guy countered by saying that nothing in the MOTD said "no porn sprays." He was a complete troll and I ended up permabanning him for ignoring admins, but I think that was the main incident that brought this to light in the first place. FWIW I draw the obscenity line at genitalia and (female) nipples -- yay double standards -- but I've been told that it's generally an admin discretion thing, so in this case I went along with Yahoo's ruling since he got first dibs.
Bahamut Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Man, I've been out of the loop for so long - TF2 is now free to play? Any additions to TF2 I've missed out otherwise like maps? I probably won't be playing again until 2 months later or so after SOI in Camp Lejeune, NC.
ParanoidDrone Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Man, I've been out of the loop for so long - TF2 is now free to play? Any additions to TF2 I've missed out otherwise like maps? I probably won't be playing again until 2 months later or so after SOI in Camp Lejeune, NC. Barnblitz, a single-stage payload map a la Badwater with a snow theme. Badlands got a KOTH version. New item sets for Scout, Soldier (2 of 'em, plus an unrelated promotional set), Demoman, Heavy, Medic, Sniper, and Spy. (No set bonuses for any of them.) Also a new standalone weapon for Pyro. Hats out the fucking wazoo as usual. Free to Play users cannot find cosmetic or promotional items by random drop and have only 50 slots in their backpack. Upgrade to premium by spending any amount of money on the game -- retail copy, Mann Co. Store, etc. Premium users get a Proof of Purchase hat. Owners before F2P went live got premium accounts by default. Complete redesign of the TF2 website. Meet the Medic
Powerlord Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Paranoid forget to mention two new equippable taunts... one for Medic ("Meet The Medic") and one for all classes ("The Schadenfreude"). TF2 Mailing list says Manadatory update coming later today. Also, I reinstalled the Holidays server plugin, so koth_harvest_event and cp_manor_event should now have some of their holiday stuff working. But it'll act like normal on any other map. Things that should work: Halloween specific hats Thriller taunt People drop crit candy on death (Untested) The Horseless Headless Horsemann on Manor Things that shouldn't work: The Haunted Present on Manor (Untested) Halloween specific achievements (or so I hear)
ParanoidDrone Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 *checks calendar* It's still August. Why are we installing the plugin again? o_O
Powerlord Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 *checks calendar*It's still August. Why are we installing the plugin again? o_O The entire point of this plugin is to have Halloween mode during a season other than Halloween. It's automatic in game during the Halloween event.
Kiyobi Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Also a new standalone weapon for Pyro. Don't bother with this. It's a travesty and not worth your metal to craft.
Powerlord Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Don't bother with this. It's a travesty and not worth your metal to craft. I agree. It got heavily nerfed between Beta and release... it used to do crits on explosions to people that were on fire (like the flare gun). Now it just does... minicrits, I want to say. It's like half the damage... 91 versus 48 I think.
Powerlord Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 We've released a mandatory update for Team Fortress 2. The update notes are below.Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM) - Added libgcc_s.so.1 to supply dependency for some Linux distributions that do not come with this file Team Fortress 2 - Added the Deus Ex promo items - Added a bell when the Sniper Rifle is fully charged ---- Toggled in the Adv. Options dialog - Fixed disguised Spies showing their critboost status - Fixed a replay render bug where .wav files did not get written for raw TGA/WAV export - Updated the localization files Servers are attempting to auto-update, but Steam is being its usual wonderful self.
Cinderwild Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 First impression: All of the weapons look really cool, only the revolver sounds outright useful. Hopefully they're all fun though. That engineer arm cannon sounds fun.
Powerlord Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 First impression: All of the weapons look really cool, only the revolver sounds outright useful. Hopefully they're all fun though. That engineer arm cannon sounds fun. The revolver might not be as useful as you think. Seems odd to have a Spy equivalent of the Frontier Justice (but for destroying buildings). The -15% damage hurts, too. I think having new Engy weapons that use Metal as ammo is a problem. As least the primary will award you metal for the amount of damage it does, but 60 ammo to fire it seems kind of expensive.
Cinderwild Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 yeah I meant 'useful' in the most situational sense. I really don't think any Spy is going to be switching out their preferred for this.
Top Gun Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 ...I just crafted some of the weapons in these new recipes like a couple of hours ago. Uuuuurgh. Seriously, anyone else feel like we need a moratorium on new weapons? At least for a couple of months? I still don't have all of the Uber Update stuff yet, much less anything that's come out since then.

I have many multiples of almost every weapon. That goes for the rest of you. Look through my backpack to see if there is something you need. http://www.tf2items.com/id/necromancy
Sir Prize Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I have heard one of the strange items in the new Sniper crates is a Sydney Sleeper. People, you know what I must do. I appreciate any help in this effort.
Powerlord Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I have heard one of the strange items in the new Sniper crates is a Sydney Sleeper.People, you know what I must do. I appreciate any help in this effort. Stranger yet, one of the items is Strange Jarate. I'm disappointed that there's no Strange Huntsman. I'm even more disappointed that Valve apparently didn't discontinue the previous 3 crates, so you now have a 1 in 6 chance of getting a Sniper crate rather than 1 in 3. Also, Valve, please die for dropping a crate for me as soon as I connected yesterday.

Cuz I'm f2p and can't "trade" but can accept people giving me stuff.

I have some keys and tags ready to go for Sniper crates. |D I already have a strange regular Rifle. It will be my new Ph.D in Bodyshoots.
Secret Agent Man Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I found the detonator to still be useful. An overlooked fact about it is that you can set multiple people on fire simultaneously, especially when they're all on a control point or cart. After that it's axtinguisher time. It's like jarate that you have multiple usages of and can actually aim and control. More new weapons? They really just don't care anymore.

It's like jarate that you have multiple usages of and can actually aim and control. It also lets you jump onto Steel E from the rim before the bridges extend. And that's about the most useful jump I've been able to do with it. Kind of sad, really. The Diamondback (new Spy gun) was really fun to use. The damage penalty is identical to the Ambassador, so the crits do 102 apiece. Because you don't need to aim for the head and either wait between shots or deal with an inherently slower fire rate, it ended up feeling stronger for me. I enjoyed it.
