Melbu Frahma
LYRICS:you know what i need, some time away to get some air i just can’t stay you know what i think, i oughta be chasing my dreams and you’re bringin’ me down i’ve lost my way she’s like the stars above you know she’ll burn in your heart forever she sings her song and she will shine tonight she’ll light up the whole sky like fire when her heart sings out she’ll know you know what i miss those days they were just you and me they’ve got me holdin’ on to those fragments of my memory and girl, you know what i wish that you were missin’ me and longin’ for my kiss and then she’ll see, she’s never been so sure she wipes away the tears that set her free and i can see, you’ll never be that sure of me so wipe away your tears and we can be like the stars above, you know you’ll burn in my heart forever so hear my song and we will shine tonight, we’ll light up the whole sky just like fire you and me so sing your heart baby please (you say you lost your way but i’ll never leave your side you got me tangled and i know i want you mine you say you lost your way girl, you say you lost way just look to the sky and you’ll see me shine we’ll light the sky ablaze and sing our song they’ll hear our voices carry on our passion it knows no fear and when you say you just don’t know you’ll look and you’ll see me) Thanks a bunch! Roto13
How exactly can someone use autotune so heavily and still end up sounding off key?
Liontamer
How exactly can someone use autotune so heavily and still end up sounding off key? It's not. Your ears are broken.
Roto13
My ears are fine, thanks. But these vocals are atrocious.
SoulinEther
My ears are fine, thanks. But these vocals are atrocious. I'd say negative criticism is very welcome, but it really has to be more constructive (especially when you're of the dissenting opinion) so as to avoid looking like you're just throwing hate around.. I never properly reviewed this! why? here goes. I have a confession. I like the last version more - and it's purely structural and I think I actually criticized it for structure once. BUT, the Sky Ablaze Remix is pretty good. Highlights for me are Melinda's vocals, the falsetto "we'll light up the whole sky just like fire you and me," and pretty much 0:00 ad infinitum with repeat. Very nice. edit: i really appreciate how "happy" is a tag. Edited April 23, 2010 by SoulinEther
Kizyr
Oh man. This song puts me in such a good mood. I don't have specific comments (aside from generally appreciating vocal mixes), but this has been stuck in my head since I first heard it, and I can't help but smile every time. Call of Ashton
This song/remix is incredible. It's on the very best I've heard on this site (I've been coming back here every few days for the past 2 yearsm pretty much), and it's become one of those songs that I need to make sure I play at least once as long as I have my MP3 player on. I have a huge love for layered music, as it sounds like such an epic, multi-layered wall of sound, and the vocal section at 2:43 is a beautiful example. I hope you two produce future music together, and maybe even write some original stuff!!! Keep it up, you've created one my favorites! Mockingbird
I was prepared to cringe my way through this whole remix. I was pleasantly, wonderfully surprised. No, it doesn't break any barriers or anything, but it is plain old good fun pop stuff. Thumbs up!
Roihu
This was a good song. My only complain is how autotune'd the guy's voice is. It sounds much better in the part where the autotune isn't heavy. Most of the vocal mixes on this site are great (and a few just aren't my genre/way too corny for my tastes), and this isn't an exception. Haven't heard the source, though... Josh Whelchel
Thank you SO much for your comments everyone! I'm looking forward to the next mix we put together and I'm listening to your feedback. In the meantime, we've got a remix of this song (yes, a remix of a remix) which was a bonus track for the Songs for the Cure '10 album: http://music.cancerdrive.org/track/shine-tonight-skys-ablaze-remix-bonus-track Thanks! Melbu Frahma
My ears are fine, thanks. But these vocals are atrocious. They're far from atrocious. You want to hear atrocious, you should hear me sing. Btw, the remix was pretty sweet too.
Crono3of3time
Blah.. I had a whole ranting post.. but then I decided to crop it to this to avoid being... ostentatious... or whatever that word is...obstinate?...Blargh? *cough* I liked the lyrics of this song, and I think that it is a new stepping stone for songs to come, or at least I will be comparing them to this one's performance. I don't care how well people sing when it comes to lyrics, what I care about are the lyrics themselves, and how they are placed in the music... mostly. *uncough* Oh my throat... don't ever try to do that in real life folks... hurts like the dickens if you succeed... *grabs throat and walks away*

To be honest, I don't usually do the lyric writing, it's not my strong suite - but for this I was really venting some personal expression. Any critical comments about anything are always welcome! I'd love to make the next one better (:
Kizyr
Just an aside: this is the song that's gonna get me to order the Songs for the Cure album. KF
Sibre
Charming - just charming. Fragments of Memories sounded surprisingly good at the faster speed, and the "glitchiness" of it (to reference the artist's comments) kept it interesting. But what I loved most were the lyrics. For me, they really represented Rinoa's character well. Her emotion really carried the game, and this song brought back memories of that. Even the references to stars recall the final scene where she points out shooting stars to Squall. I could even imagine the main characters singing this to each other using karaoke. The shout-out to the title of the source material ("fragments of my memory") was also a nice inclusion. That's something I love about VGM music and arrangements - they can evoke settings, characters, and stories to give an added layer of meaning. This song also reminds me of a comment by FF8's main character designer about Rinoa: that he designed her to be not gorgeous, but cute. That could also be said of this song. I don't think it's quite perfect, but somehow that adds to its charm, at least in my opinion.
Mtlbro
Adam Young is that you?? Oh thank God it's not, but this mix makes me happy !! Critique? I think most pop songs would have the vocal EQ up I have to strain to hear at times, but wen I do hear them I like I also dig those "glitches" and abrupt transitions, almost like ur winking at me as I listen in bliss
ProjectSpam
I only wish pop music on the radio was this inventive and enjoyable. I was worried before listening, but I love this.
Martin Penwald
Generally speaking, I don't like autotune, and this remix is not an exception. Especially the beginning, where the voice is quite exposed, is just not my cup of tea. It becomes less of an issue past 1:20, when the female voice joins now and then. And then 2:42 onwards happens and the whole remix becomes fuckawesome. It's layered so beautifully. Also, the female vocals are very nice. To sum it up, the beginning of the song made me think "Nope, I won't like this" when I listened to it for the first time, but once I heard the whole thing, I couldn't stop listening to it anymore. Dhsu
This gives me much more of a StarBlast vibe than a DJ Crono one. Comparisons to either artist though are definitely a good thing.
katethegreat19
I love this xD Because of the style it's in, the autotune really works This is my number one favorite melody from FF8 and I realy love this pop-ized version. Lyrics are good and my foot was a tappin'.
Sorceror Nobody
I'm still a little undecided on the vocals, as while I like them overall, it does slightly grate on my nerves in a couple of places. However, the piece as a whole is great. I love the "glitching" effects, and the overall style of the piece appeals to me. Great job!
