VGM borrowing from pop music

This happens way more often than I think some people realize. Most of the time, it is either purposefully based on the song, or it is accidentally based on the song because it was in the back of the composer's mind while they were writing. When Hans Zimmer was doing the score for The Dark Knight, he had been listening to a lot Beethoven (specifically "Moonlight Sonata") and he admits that the main theme of the Dark Knight borrows very heavily from that.

http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=11615 I have a huge 20 page topic of these over at Sonic Retro.

Here's a couple.

Sonic CD JAP/EUR Boss

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms6bXVC5mdc

Enigma: Sadeness Pt. 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tK-u7fCK8M

Rusty Ruins (Stylistic Similarities) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ_qheNzIm4 (this was actually more or less confirmed with Richard Jacques in an interview)

SOR2 Theme:

Stevie Wonder - My Cherie Amour (the verses)

Can you Feel the Sunshine.

Janet Jackson - Lets Wait Awhile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvKhDiNME4E

Green Hill Zone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFHvxuuOymo

...and also a little fun one for those who had that aweful Pokemon pop album.

Misty's Song from the Pokemon 2BA Master album = You Are Not Alone

The songs are practically identical.

Hmmm

Sonic the Hedgehog (Master System version) - October 25, 1991

Janet Jackson's Together Again - December 2, 1997

so like Brandon's post, its the opposite of the thread title, pop borrowing from VGM

though in this case unlike Brandon's post, im sure its just coincidence

This probably doesn't even count at all...

Chrono Trigger:

Pink Floyd:

There's just these three notes... 0:19 in PF's, 0:09 in CT's. And maybe the general mood of both intros. They've been amusing me for years now. Apart from that, not much similarities.

With the titles it seems too good to be a coincidence. Love it :-P
