orkybash Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Hawaii Shoppi'n' Creative - A Zelda 64 shop theme remix, and a well done one at that. I love the marimba (?) solo around 1:30. Repetitive? Maybe. Fun? Definitely. Recommended? Of course! Quote
Woffester Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 I dunno what to brag about...Its just cool. Download it. Quote
MB Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 this sounds like it could be part of a soundtrack to some kinda slapstick anime. fun is the right word for it. it's gotta really happy feel to it, and as far as i'm concerned, any song that can make you smile, is a good song. Quote
GameBlazer Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 I listen to this song every now and then when I just want to chill... Just relax and let the breeze flow over you, man... Quote
Ice Sage Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Lol! I like this one! I can see why it would make one think of the "Chicken Dance." It's cute. And different too! It's not hard and heavy. It's light and fun. Quote
PassivePretentiousness Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 I playes Zelda 64 repeatedly for 2 years, beating the game over and over. Through all of that I though that the shop theme WAS the chicken dance and nintendo just ripped them off. I excitedly downloaded this soon after I discovered this site, got up to dance, and found out THAT IT'S NOT THE CHICKEN DANCE!!!!! THE HAND MOTIONS JUST DON'T WORK.... wait, that didn't sound right. Anywho, there's nothing wrong with this remix, but it does have that bland, generic flavor. It seems like the dude just messed with the instruments and left everything else as is. Oh well. Moo. 4/8 Quote
Slimeball Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 Haha I love the shop song...I just spent hours leaving the game on listening to the music - how sad is that? Anway, this one does kinda sound like the chicken dance... Quote
The_Wind_Waker8 Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 MMMmmmm... Dancing Hawaiian Chiken.... I'm getting hungry now... But really, a chiken that used to dance before it was killed surounded by pineapples. I wonder if it whould taste like this song does... Quote
lady zelda Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I've had this mix for a long time, and from the first time I heard it, I knew the shop theme and that Hawaii tang were meant to be together, and you put it together so well, Noppz! Now this must be played at the bar of a sunny beach resort. It's paradise! Enough said. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 The bass and guitar sound good, but the lead instruments just kind of grate. The mallets sound fantastic though. Cute ending too. Quote
Mr Azar Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 What a fun Zelda remix, and it both stays true to the original theme while expanding into new territory. I love it! Quote
42 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 imho, it isn't Hawaiian enough. Not bad a remix, but not exactly my cup of tea either. It is definitely a fun original take on the Zelda Shop theme. Quote
DragonAvenger Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 This...just doesn't gel with me. I agree with OA that the lead sounds up to the mallets are just grating at times. I would have liked this a lot more if the leads had been played in the mallets rather than the accordion. Overall I'm feeling that this is just a bit too hokey (yes, I went to the 'other' overused kids party song). It's creative in it's own right, but I never liked the source, and this unfortunately accents all the parts that I didn't like about it. Just not my thing, sorry. Quote
Jack Polo Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Hmm. While it does sound nice, I think the arrangement is a little too similar-sounding to the original for my liking. Also, I don't think it was Hawaiian enough for me. I agree with DragonAvenger; having the mallets play the lead melody would have rendered it a lot more "Hawaiian" sounding. Maybe could have benefited also from some steel drums, ukulele, etc? As is, it's still a nice interpretation of a fun source Quote
Emunator Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Oh boy... I'm really biased against this theme, and unfortunately this mix doesn't do anything to negate that. The flute (?) leads are probably the fakest samples I've ever heard and they don't mix well together at all. The mallets work a lot better and feel much more natural, thankfully, so that part of the mix worked a lot more for me. Not a keeper, but the aspects of this mix that worked nicely are quaint, if forgettable. Quote
MechaFone Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 This remix-while certainly not bad, is much too close to the source, with only about 30 seconds, maybe 45, of original material. I don't much mind the source, as it does have that kind of "island" sound to it, if you think about it. All in all, could've seen a lot more from this remix. Quote
Crulex Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 So yeah, if this was sped up, it really would be in the realm of Hawaiian polka and chicken dance and such. I don't know, I kinda like it for the arrangement idea of taking the shop theme and throwing a happy half-goofy tropical overlay on it. Not groundbreaking at all and as others have said, certain samples and production values aren't as good as others, but it's fun to listen to a couple of times. Quote
