The Damned Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 http://www.destructoid.com/-99-99-wii-mini-revealed-239382.phtml It's smaller, doesn't play GameCube games, has no online (but then, the Wii barely did, so...) and is only going to be available in Canada for the first few months. Truly, this is the ultimate console. If anyone wants one, just PM me and I'll have it sent by dog sled to the US border. I'll take furs or muskets instead of money if you have trouble converting your dollars to our coins. Quote
KingTiger Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Interesting. Without the wifi it seems like a fail. Quote
Modus Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Looks like a container for colored pencils. Quote

Meteo Xavier Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I was at Walmart yesterday and saw boxes of Wiis out in the center aisle in front of electronics for $80-$89. I forget which exactly, but I know it started with an 8. Cheapest I'd ever seen it. Quote
DusK Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I'll take furs or muskets instead of money if you have trouble converting your dollars to our coins. What about beads and trinkets? Quote
Melbu Frahma Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Looks like a container for colored pencils. That was actually my first thought too. I dunno; I don't really see enough advantage to the Mini vs the original to make me consider buying it instead of a Wii. Quote
EC2151 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 The lack of gamecube support is what kills it for me. Especially when the hardware is more or less the same. though I am sure confused Canadian parents will buy this... totally won't cannibalize WiiU sales! Quote
Benjamin Briggs Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 lack of gamecube support is no surprise, nintendo already did that with the most recent generation of new Wii consoles reminds me of their handhelds, slowly and quietly phasing out backwards compatibility just because they know we'll still pay out the ass for everything. I'm sure it helps cut production costs too cool shape and design, dumb colors for a console. also, no WiFi? .......why not? do people in canada not use the internet Quote
The Coop Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I'll take furs or muskets instead of money if you have trouble converting your dollars to our coins. I'll just bring Monopoly money. It's worth about the same as Canadian cash, right? Quote
Gollgagh Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 you know, it actually looks reminiscent of the Famicom to me Quote
Bleck Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 also, no WiFi? .......why not? I challenge someone to name a game for the Wii that people can play online, and still do. Quote
Malaki-LEGEND.sys Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I challenge someone to name a game for the Wii that people can play online, and still do. Monster Hunter 3. Quote
Jamphibious Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I challenge someone to name a game for the Wii that people can play online, and still do. Animal Crossing! Online is a pretty big component of it for some people. Nintendo sends items through WiiConnect24 still too, I got one a few weeks back. I can't think of much else though. Not sure if Monster Hunter Tri still has servers up or not. Shooters were never that big on Wii either. Dragon Quest X never came here. Alas! This thing is weird, but hey its a cheap way to get into some Wii games. Its just a nice cheap option for families that don't need online functionality or Gamecube support. *EDIT - I suppose the lack of virtual console kinda sucks, though some people wouldn't care about that I suppose. ocre Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I have to say, I really like the look of the Wii Mini, but can't say I'd ever need to buy one, even if it's not even an option here in the US. Quote
Modus Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 I'm still not getting the "but the design is pretty cool" idea. Does the texture and shape of the plastic not resemble those ugly boxes Kinekts were sold in? It's really a throwback to 90s kids' toy design. It's that nasty bumpy texture.. heugh Quote
linkspast Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 If i didn't have big wii already id pick it up for a few games. Quote
Benjamin Briggs Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I challenge someone to name a game for the Wii that people can play online, and still do. virtual console and wiiware titles require an internet connection to download, so unless the thing has an ethernet port it seems like they crippled a sizable aspect of the system also, mario kart wii online Quote
CC Ricers Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 It does not look that much smaller Should've been white and red for a 1-2 punch of looking like a Famicon and because Canada Quote
