Garpocalypse
As i think about starting up a new game of Amnesia I thought I would start up a thread just to see what kind of horror games OCRemixers are enjoying this year. Some of my favorites that i hope to be hitting this month are: The first 3 Resident Evil Games Lone Survivor ClockTower Silent Hill 1&2 Catherine (Hey solving a puzzle while getting stabbed from a disembodied hand holding a fork is kinda freaky) Fatal Frame and I just picked up I Have No mouth and I Must Scream From Steam (I really want Soma but I'm still on XP) Anyone else have some favorite horror games? AngelCityOutlaw
Until Dawn is the only game I've played. Been watching a ton of horror movies though.
Garpocalypse
Until Dawn looks awesome definitely getting that at some point. Not crazy about the vast majority of horror movies i've seen. A few that standout are The Shining and the original Pumpkinhead and I love the amount of tension in Alien and Aliens but anything recent has mostly just involved people screaming in front of the camera for 90 minutes and not much more. I've been on the fence with the Five night's at freddy's series. On one hand I want to support indie developers that come up with a great idea that gets run into the ground by imitators. But it looks like the creator is also running it into the ground himself.
Kat
Siren for PS2. Classic horror at it's best and rather under-appreciated. I really should play I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. That was an awesome(if unnerving) book.
Brandon Strader
That's indie games in a nutshell, step 1: take good idea, step 2: run it into the ground....... ???..... profit I didn't get TOO Far into Until Dawn, but it might be a good option. Although I haven't got past the "teens in a cabin in the woods" part yet so I shouldn't really comment on whether it's a good horror game Alien Isolation, Outlast, The Evil Within... pretty good options
Nostalvania
The only horror game i'm playing at the moment is The Evil Within for ps3. Pretty good game IMO, also a very hard one ( i died a lot). I beat it two times and now i'm trying to play through it on nightmare mode. k-wix
Has anyone mentioned SOMA yet? It's an incredible experience. It reminds me of System Shock 2 from my childhood - that game scared me like no other, SOMA feels the same in a lot of ways, even though its not exactly the same genre! Wife got me a PS4 for our first anniversary, so we recently finished Until Dawn (switched controllers between chapters!) - kept about 75% of the cast alive, and we decide to go through the chapters and try to keep them all alive only to find out the game crashes if you try to 'fix' the story without playing all the way through the game again. We called it a quits immediately after having it crash twice in a row on a particular late-game chapter Also, game needs a run/cutscene skip button after you beat it the first time. Garpocalypse
Has anyone mentioned SOMA yet? It's an incredible experience. It reminds me of System Shock 2 from my childhood - that game scared me like no other, SOMA feels the same in a lot of ways, even though its not exactly the same genre! I'm a huge fan of Amnesia: Dark Descent. Probably the most fun i've had with a horror game (In contrast to Slender which was more like actual torture). I heard that Machine for Pigs simplified a lot of things and to be honest I thought DD was already too simple. The only item management the game has is stocking oil and tinder for your light source and a few items needed for puzzles. Don't get me wrong, it was used to great effect in DD but I can't imagine anything being more simple than that. Resource management should be a big part of all horror games imo. How does Soma stack up to the first amnesia?
AngelCityOutlaw
My only problem with Amnesia is that, whenever you encounter an enemy, you just have to run away, crouch down in the darkness and wait until the music stops. Then, the monster is gone and never to be seen again. I seriously never encountered a monster twice in my play-throug...It really ruined the atmosphere. Necrox
How about instead of gaming, just getting in a closet and blasting the SH OST?
yangfeili
One of my scariest game experiences was actually with Thief: The Dark Project, which isn't even really a horror game. I went into the game thinking it was just a sort of generic medieval setting, and then in the second mission you run into a zombie. It's not even particularly disturbing as far as zombies go. There was just something about encountering a zombie when I was completely expecting there not to be zombies that twisted my brain.
AngelCityOutlaw
Clive Barker's Undying is easily one of the most under-rated horror games ever made. If you've never played it...you just need to. I'd crowdfund the hell out of a remake of that game. Garpocalypse
Garpocalypse
Not specifically a horror game either but I always thought walking around the Subways in Fallout 3 was extremely unsettling. Especially at low levels and not being able to see some of those ghouls come after you even though you can hear the sound they make when they are running at you full sprint. Chernabogue
Some older Castlevania games, maybe The Binding of Isaac. Oh and Red Dead Redemption's Zombie DLC

The Damned
Not a game itself, but the Halloween themed DLC campaign for Borderlands 2, Bloody Harvest, is something I plan to hit up at the end of the month. For those not familiar with the game, it's an FPS with some RPG elements. You're a mercenary with a heart of... something. It's hard to say, as you take jobs like starting a clan war between space-hicks and Irish stereotypes because it's fun. You fight a giant evil corporation that is going to kill everyone on the planet, but you also take jobs from them because they offer nice things as payment. Lots of high-tech guns and half-naked psychopaths and robots. Fun times. The game then throws a curve-ball by, while still in the future-on-another-planet-with-robots-and-spaceships setting, sending you to a small town where a zombie needs help with some locals, a giant pumpkin monster and a horde of skeletons with assault rifles is trying to take over, and you get to fight a half-spider, half monster, half human blacksmith. Yes, that's the right number of "halfs". And it's all completely within canon. :V There's a bunch of stuff to do in this small campaign, like a series of hidden objectives to unlock a secret area and a hidden boss battle. Plus a guaranteed loot drop of a Legendary Rocket Launcher that fires exploding fireball missiles.

Garpocalypse
While not technically "Horror" but a game that was released around the end of october is Toejam n' Earl III that I really wish I could play again. Outside of ebaying a new xbox i have no idea how I can play it since MS didn't feel like emulating the game on the 360. Can't praise RE:Revelations 2 enough. Going through it on survivor mode now and it's the most fun i've had playing a resident evil game since RE2.

AngelCityOutlaw
Been playing some of the Retrovanias. That pornographic slot machine or whatever is definitely the death of series, so this reminds me of better days. On the movie front, I did a marathon on the Scream movies and got around to finally watching "I still know what you did last summer" since I somehow never did see the sequel over the past 17 years. I still like the first one better but there is at least one very good reason to watch the sequel.

They don't have the polish of Hollywood of course but manage to be creepy in there own way. http://horror.dreamdawn.com/img/japanese_horror/juon_tv_still.jpg
