  1. Haha, yesss! This track is just begging for some kind of jazz-hoppy mix.

  3. So we just passed our second-to-last deadline, and I am very happy with the progress that we saw for this deadline. Not only do we have a handful of tracks that are nearly finished, we also saw a good amount of new WIPS and a few folks reaching out to get a bit more time for their updates. So thanks all, let's keep it up! Unfortunately we didn't hear from everyone, and that also means a track that previously was claimed has become available again. Anyone interested, I Closed My Eyes, the dreamy Game Over tune, is now up for grabs again! Next deadline is July 2nd. It'd be a good idea to shoot for a near final version of your track so you don't have to rush it towards the final deadline in September. Stay tuned!

  5. I should be able to get around to it soon. It's been at the back of my mind for a while!

  6. I decided to return to this contest and make a remix for this entry. The theme and its accompanying video remind me of an ancient tomb so I took that direction (to an extent). Good luck everyone.

  8. Thanks for the detailed response! Yeah I understand masking and notching/boosting in theory, but I need a lot more practice learning the proper frequency ranges to do it for each instrument. I'm going to revisit this mix and work on it some more. One problem I've had is the same as Trism: My mix sounds really good on my headphones but not as good on my speakers or other systems. I recently learned that my headphones frequency response isn't as flat as I thought, and have added some corrective eq. I've also started playing with a binaural room impulse response vst so I can hear the phantom center correctly in my headphones. I know mixing is best done on monitors in an acoustically treated room, but that's just not in the cards for me right now. Let me make sure I understand what you said at the beginning: You are recommending starting with all instruments at 0 and bringing them into the mix one at a time, using only volume knobs/gainers, until everything is heard well enough, and then apply EQ/compression from there, right? Also, as far as "stage placement," do you think adding some additional reverb to the piano would help it stand out more by making it sound like I've moved it back on the stage? Is that a thing that commonly works? Right now it has the exact same reverb as all the guitars so it's in the same line as them. I promise I got more out of your post than I am asking here-I just need a little guidance to make sure I'm moving in the right direction.

  10. This certainly does belong in the VG WIP forum - while a straight medley is looked down upon in submissions (within reason), it's totally cool to share it with others on the board. As soon as my lunch break is over at work I'll look forward to listening, as Ninja Gaiden 2 has a criminally under-represented soundtrack on here (outside of 3-2 because holy crap there is more to that soundtrack than 3-2 people!).

  11. EDIT: The position has been filled, thanks to all that inquired! Hi OCRemixers! I am this guy and I'm looking for a really good keyboardist to be featured in an upcoming song of mine: Big Bad Baby Bowser from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (the final boss theme). I have a version of this I recorded back in 2011, but the sound quality and playing are pretty meh and I feel like I could do a much better job at it now, so I want to give it the remake it deserves. You can check out that version to get an idea of the skill level I'm looking for (basically, able to play the organ line from the Final Boss theme, and also the organ line from the Big Boss theme which I used in the middle of that remix, doesn't have to be note for note of course but relatively close!). I really don't practice the keys very hard these days (the past few years actually, haha), so it's become a bit beyond my keyboard skill levels at this point. I figured this could be a great opportunity for someone else to collaborate with me and also get some exposure. Also must be video-friendly! All of my songs go on Youtube with videos so it's a must. Also should have a good quality camera, doesn't have to be top-of-the-line or anything.. just not potato tier. xD If you think you have what it takes and would like collaborate and be featured on my channel, please send me a PM along with some of your stuff that I can check out. Hope to hear from you soon!
