  1. It's not just information, it's also kinda cirriculum too. There's a reason there is a relatively good market for Guitar teachers out there. A book is fine, but a book is not going to be able to actually hear what you're playing and how you're playing it to see if you're doing it right or not. Don't get this mindset that you do it the best alone, because it is highly erronious. I can almost guarantee you you'll want to quit NOW with that mindset and not waste your time. That's not to say a self-teaching venture will be hopeless, but those odds are against you.
  2. Is there a reason you have to teach yourself first? It's a decent way to get your body familiar with it, but there's a lot strict rules in place for the best ways of HOW to do what - I learned that the hard way from several years of (failed) piano practice. If you can, get a certified teacher to get you started on lessons. Self-teaching I don't recommend as much at all.
  3. You should be. That game was a great twist on the Super Mario 64 structure, which no one will admit they've absorbed to death. Yeah, I would've liked some things to be more "open" like Super Mario 64 too, but, hell, that's what Super Mario 64 is for.
  4. I wonder how much longer we can run the gender thing here into the ground before anyone realizes we put too much unnecessary emphasis on it and actually accept the idea that there ARE women on the intarwebs. I mean, its not 1929 anymore.
  5. Josh released a Track Listing today. I'm actually credited as 12 Followers/Meteo Xavier (which is my artist's name) and my contribution was a collaboration with Michael Huang. There might be other OCRemixers on there, but I would have trouble identifying them. Is FFMusicDJ an Ocremixer? Sounds like one.
  6. I'm aware of that. This is a "control" part of the experiment where I try to see how much I can get away with without. This is good stuff right here. The choir I knew about, the strings I didn't. I was worried they had that "brick" like static attack if I didn't work on the attack. The low strings I had trouble with too. I think its the bass drum hits that are masking it. The cello (not the double bass beneath it) was chewing up a lot of low-end and it didn't sound right. Was it a mistake to try and it to sound about the same from my studio headphones (AKG) to my non-studio speakers? I'm starting to think that wasn't the right thing to do, but I'm still trying to learn how to discern proper sound balance between outputs.
  7. Yep, its Ra. The highs are too prominent? Really? I didn't think they were high enough.
  8. So I got my big, fancy new studio headphones and my fancy new East West stuff, and I'm trying to learn to use it all and make it work. http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=689 I was practicing on this one tonight. The track itself is basic, its just practice to make the instrumentation believable and the mixing work ok. I'm going to learn how to do more with expression and volume automation, but I didn't do any of that here. The mixing was a pain, but I got it so it sounds about the same in my studio headphones as it does on my non-studio speakers. I'm not looking for anything specific to fix, I'm just looking for a general ballpark to how I'm doing. Is this even close to decent mixing and believable instrumentation? If not, what do I need to improve on? That's all I'm looking for. I'm just checking my accuracy. Thank you!
  9. I doubt this would cut it as an Ocremix, but this is still very respectable work. Good mixing and good instruments. This is a great start. Keep working at it and you should get on here within a year's time. Good job!
  10. I already invented the "expotential entendre", Bahamut. I'll sue you to Chinatown if you try to infringe on it.
  11. I liked my judges panel better when it was a sausage fest. Having said that, welcome aboard, DA!
  12. I am Meteo Xavier. What is the good word, Cat lady?

  13. PLAY is easily the weirdest series of programs I've ever tried to install. I wasted two hours yesterday before I figured out that all 6 or 7 programs I have from the Composer's Collection all share the same play_vst.dll file. And then it fixed my reverb issue. My support ticket to EastWest from yesterday is now a waste of effort. . Still, I'm sure there will be problems to come, so I'll keep this topic for now.
  14. Nevermind. I don't know how, but installing other PLAY software seems to have fixed it. I want to keep this topic up because I'm sure there will be problems to come.
  15. My EWQLSO has a "Reverb Impulse" issue (1884 when it says I need 1885) and will not let me use the convolution reverb. So I wrote EW about it and they told me how to fix it. I simply remove my PLAY update, reboot, and then install 1.2.5 Problem is, I currently HAVE 1.2.5. I'm pretty sure I installed EWQLSO after this (since I ended up having to reinstall it like 3-4 times) and I still can't get their reverb to work, I still can't get 1885. I don't understand this problem at all. Did anyone else have trouble like this?
  16. I would be up for this, except I don't use IRC, Skype or MAGfest or anything like that. I prob would not be able to make meetings.
  17. It doesn't have to be, you can look at reviews by names you recognize, like Game Informer, which I think give it a 93 or something close to it. I can't play this Final Fantasy because I don't have any of the systems it's appearing on, but I am looking forward to its release. I think it'll be great.
  18. Says the boy with Kirby printed three times in all of his posts. I don't know about an EPIC backlash, Metacritic is posting several excellent reviews on it with the aggragated score of 86/100. If an epic backlash is defined with inappropriate proportions, such as FFXIII not getting 95/100 or something, just imagine would've happened if it got 40/100! Oh, the planet would be begging for nuclear apocalypse then, I'll tell you whut. I wager it'll be another solid and divisive title in a series that's had the same things said about it since VII. Just relax and enjoy what there is to be enjoyed.
  19. Sonic level designs used to bother the shit out of me because I could never tell if I was back-tracking or going down the right route or anything. Something about those huge levels, up and down, and so many identical sections used to really fuck with my cognition.
  20. Zircon's a safe bet. I hired him once and I'll hire him again. Do it.
  21. Sometimes a white hot, hi-saw sounds great over top a prog-metal kinda track like this, and sometimes a screaming, blue lead sounds better. I think a blue lead or even a distorted square probably would've sounded better, but I don't it detracts from the mix at all. Is the opening there the Japanese thing you were waiting to get recorded for so long? You told me about that a while back and I'm wondering if thats it.
  22. Yeah, and if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass a-hoppin'. It doesn't change the fact that this attitude should not be influenced by a little beta. Wait until it has been played!
  23. Just to see the looks on people's face when I produce them a vanity object of a plushie or an action figure made in my likeness would be worth just about any price she wants to set. Is she into that?
  24. Dude, calm down. It's a videogame. Wait for the official releases before you start forming ideas and concerns. Wait until you play the game before you condemn it. You might be surprised - some of my favorite games are ones people hate (Ghoul Patrol for example). I have to wonder how much of a game's failure is based on community naysaying instead of actually sitting down and playing through it.
