I beat the campaign yesterday. I was expecting a little more from the ending.

So... One week left for submissions.

I didn't like this at first- It's not what I expected to be done for Cid's theme- but I've spent some time listening to it, and it's really grown on me. I'd say it's one of my favorite tracks from VotL now.

I like the name.

I didn't like it very much, but I'm really pretty biased. Were I a fanboy of anyone/thing, it would be Nobuo Uematsu. Final Fantasy XII, the entire game, not just the soundtrack, went in an incredibly different direction than earlier Final Fantasies had. Despite that, it has been received extremely well, both by long-time fans as well as new fans to the series. I'm just not a part of that demographic. I couldn't pull myself to finish the game because it just didn't feel like Final Fantasy to me. I'm not saying it's bad. It's just not for me.

This was the first thing I saw on Digg today. This makes me sad.

It gets better the more I listen to it. I think I was a little overwhelmed at first, but now I'm listening to individual tracks, not just leaving the whole project in my WinAmp queue. I wanted to extend kudos to a couple remixers in particular: Steffan Andrews and Pot Hocket. To my knowledge, before VotL came out, I hadn't heard anything that either of you had remixed/composed. The tracks that you two put into the project have impressed me more than most of the others. Nice work!

I've listened to a few tracks (torrenting the rest of them). I haven't been disappointed yet. It was a pleasant surprise to see that even obscure tracks like the submarine theme had been mixed. I used RPG Maker 2000 and 2003 for a few years. I managed to pump out three short, very amateur games. I've never tried using RPG Maker XP, though. Despite being a theoretically superior system, resources for it are too difficult to seek out as compared to resources used in its predecessors. charas-project.net has a characterset generator, but the sprites it produces are meant to be used in 2K and 2K3. If you're dedicated you could still use it, but you would have to modify the resulting sprite sheets to work with XP. These are the system specs from Wikipedia for RMXP. * Operating system: Microsoft Windows 98/98SE/Me/2000/XP * Processor: 800 MHz * 128 MB RAM * Video adapter 1024×768 or better video resolution in High Color mode * DirectSound-compatible sound card * 100 MB free disc space It doesn't require much. You should be able to run it without any problem unless you're on something 15+ years old.

I saw a commercial for Dragon Wars today. It looked pretty interesting, but from what I've read on Wikipedia it won't be breaking ground of any sort.

Really glad to hear you guys have got an ETA. So many of these projects get big-time bogged down near the end of production.

Nice job, Antonio! Can't say I'm surprised you won. Yours was definitely the best submission. Next competition: My vote is for short story because I've got an idea rolling around in my head, but I'll go along with whatever you guys want to do. School is back in session, which means I'll be writing plenty regardless of what competitions are up. I actually wrote a paper just yesterday for English class that was a comparison of my personality and the characteristics of an eraser... I love that class. Edit: Thank you Doulifée! You don't get enough thanks for drawing these badges so consistently!

No Final Fantasy yet? But, I guess there are plenty of better versions out now that you wouldn't need to get into the NES one.

Probably the best thing to do if you're interested in getting the project (any project) started back up is to contact the heads/coordinators of the project via PM or e-mail first. Make sure that there is interest in the idea of going back to work before you make a declaration to the whole community that the project is back on-line. And, because this is the internet, it helps to have someone with a high post-count make announcements like these.
