  1. Vibrato is pretty irritating to do in Sytrus, so a picture is worth a thousand words. Basically follow those steps then just mess around with the start time, depth, speed, and lfo fade-in until you get the sound you want. I don't think you can tie vibrato to the mod wheel in Sytrus.
  2. Can't go wrong with Red Brinstar as a source. Beginning synth feels exposed. Some more atmospherics would be good. Synth at 0:36 feels very loud and exposed. You need something more here, and turn the lead down a lot. Part at 1:06 feels quiet and weak compared to the loud synth that comes before, when it should punch you in the gut. Would like to hear more bass freqs in the center. Your synth bass is spread out very wide. Just my personal feeling, though. Lead synth on the whole doesn't feel very expressive, some vibrato could easily take care of that. I feel overall you could beef up the track with more layers. As I noted earlier parts of it are too sparse. Just my impressions. I think this has the makings of a good dubstep-ish type track once you finesse it.
  3. I'm hearing some pumping on the master bus whenever the kick hits. That stuff drives me nuts on rock mixes. Everything seems too strongly compressed, mix feels claustrophobic as a result. Agree with the comments on the bitcrushed part. Maybe just notch out some of that peakiness in 500-1k range.
  4. I guess this isn't as much of a necro bump as I thought it would be. I got Droidsound and it works great for teh retro soundtracks, but it doesn't play .miniusf files. Is there any way to play these on my phone?
  5. No that's quite alright, it sounds like you already did some work on the track so you take it.
  6. Can I take a crack at it? I'm confident I can have a completed track in a month or less. edit: are you looking for specific styles or anything? I can't really tell from the OP.
  7. Yeah the mixing is definitely weak. Guitars are thin, drums are faint and muffled. I can hear a bass but it's too quiet or lacking midrange.
  8. I'm still really cringing at that sax. It's a combination of an awful sample and not being very expressive. The long note at 3:00 is particularly grating. If nothing else get some vibrato going. Shakers seem too loud, kick is too soft and muffled. I think you need some more percussive elements in there. The solo violin is pretty fake sounding too. PM me and I can lay down a real part. Arrangement on the whole feels like it stays at the same energy level for most of the song, not enough ebb and flow. Green Hill Zone theme is always enjoyable, hope you can punch this one up.
  9. edit: I'm a bo tard, I just realized I made a list of criticism about your first draft version.
  10. Minor tweak, adjusted the bass level throughout the song. What I would give for an acoustically treated room that didn't make mixing the low end such a god damned guessing game.
  11. That's what I love about them. They're minimal, yet have great potential to be arranged and expanded.
  12. Been trying to do a Torvus Bog remix on and off for, I dunno, 4 years. Finally was able to finish this iteration. Mix of rock and electronic. Bogged Down
  13. There's something about the synth lead sound that doesn't sit right with me. It sounds too nasally or something for the mix. Seems to be a buildup of frequencies in the lows/low mids for the kick and bass. Just my quick impressions on headphones.
  14. There's something almost symphonic about this tune. It's totally epic, in a chippy way. I love it.
  15. I think this also explains my reaction as well. Maybe I'm out in left field. That's entirely possible.
  16. The violin sounds kind of timid to me, lacking confidence. Pretty nice track overall, though.
  17. Always good to see some Metroid Prime love. Pretty nice so far, I look forward to seeing this develop.
  18. I also recently got a smartphone, and while I was skeptical of its usefulness at first, I've become totally addicted to it. I've found some good stuff in this thread. The tuning app, for instance. Until 5 minutes ago, it never even occurred to me that my phone could replace my Korg tuner.
  19. While more dense than the game soundtrack, this track would sound completely at home in the game. One of my favorite on this site.
  20. Damn, you're fast. You've really got this orchestration thing down.
  21. I joined Fitocracy and joined the OCR group, but to tell the truth I'm so fundamentally out of shape I don't know where to start.
  22. This is one of those ReMixes that almost feels more appropriate than the source track. You know what I mean? Like this tune is what the game track wanted to be.
