  1. Well, you can adjust the release of the sounds, which helps somewhat, but the reverb is baked into the samples so they'll always have the big hall sound. Alternately, if you buy the Platinum version you get the close mic samples. And re Vienna, just tweak the verb to taste. If you don't have a good one, Valhalla Room is the easy and obvious choice.
  2. I only own EWQL, and the thing to be aware of is the samples are drenched in hall reverb. Try using them in a context other than big orchestral and they can sound really weird and disconnected. OTOH, if you like that big recording space sound, you have it available with no work. Vienna is dry, so while you'll want a good reverb, you can tweak exactly how much depth to give the sounds.
  3. Yeah just enjoy the ride. Eventually you'll have your own sound, even if you don't realize it.
  4. I feel there needs to be some kind of pad or strings in the middle part. Chimes and glockenspiel are too loud, they feel a tad overbearing. There seems to be a little blip in the left channel at 0:27. Just some things I noticed.
  5. The manual does a pretty good job of describing the articulations. I would say Shreddage 2 is about as easy to use as it gets for an advanced gtr sample library.
  6. Waves is pretty overrated in general. That said, the $9 sale might be useful to someone.
  7. Do you get more submissions these days than years ago?
  8. That's a great write up man. Glad you found a lot of things to like in the mix.
  9. From music all over the place, at OCR or in soundtracks or my mp3 library. I hear something that impresses me and think, I gotta try that. And of course I never copy it very well, but I usually learn something in the process. Other than that, I find inspiration in Reaper, which lets me work a lot faster than I did in Sonar. I feel inspired to sit at my computer, because I know my workflow has been tweaked nice and efficient.
  10. Welp, now I have some serious explaining to do to all the people I ripped a new orifice.
  11. I got one of those scales that measures your rpg stats, and it says I have 9% body fat. That's pretty low innit? I've always been thin. As I've approached 30 I have put on weight, but mostly concentrated in my gut. And I've found specific foods make me gain weight. Go awhile without them and i can lose it. I am not an athlete btw. Have been working out for a couple months but that's it.
  12. Wow, this was unexpected. I found the judges thoughts interesting. I don't blame anyone if they think it's too liberal. Nearly all of the song references some part of the original, but some of the sections are pretty changed up from the source. I actually thought about writing to the judges and explaining all the parts, but decided I was being paranoid.
  13. the mixing sounds pretty decent to me. I can hear a lot more sonic junk in v1. maybe trim some of the parts more with a highpass filter? idk. Synths at 2:45 seem a little dry.
  14. Best Service is having a 2-for-1 holiday sale. I grabbed all of Eduardo Tarilonte's stuff... Forest Kingdom, Epic World, Era Medieval Legends, and Desert Winds. If you're into the whole ambient/new-age/orchestral/ethno/cinematic thing, these sounds are like sweet sweet crack.
  15. Yes, the demo period is limited to 60 days.
  16. Another live instrument/whistling mix? Jeez, when will people stop with this stuff. Kidding aside, great tune.
  17. Whatever channel you don't use a pre on, you'll have to boost a ton in your DAW to match the level of the other mic, which will result in a noisy signal. So yea, use as many preamps as you're using mics.
  18. Honestly, the cheap-ass tube micpres like the Behringer just add a bunch of distortion to your sound. Most people "in the know" seem to agree that tubes aren't a big deal when it comes to micpres. To your point about using one at all, whatever gets you a moderate input signal. Which for an acoustic guitar, will require a pre. If you don't use a pre, you'll have to boost the signal a ton in your DAW and you'll end up with a lot of noise.
  19. sadly, this is pretty neat and organized for me. one of these days I'll get serious and put together a proper studio environment. maybe. turned on the bright overhead lights so you can witness the cable spaghetti in all its glory.
  20. I really like this. I guess I could find things to criticize, but I really can't be arsed. Enjoy this tune.
  21. I've already burned all my bridges.
