  1. Maybe here? I tried looking for some specifically, but maybe I didn't use the right term.
  2. I don't know what Sonar you're using, but my Sonar let's you edit selected notes and their velocities fairly easily. Make sure the controller pane is disabled, select your notes with the select tool, select the draw tool by pressing "d", put cursor over top middle of the note, move velocity. For even more individual control, hold down ctrl and move across the notes horizontally. You can even enable "velocity audition" to hear how each note sounds when you move the velocity level, making it easy to hear different samples mapped throughout different velocities. Even if you do want to use the controller pane to edit velocities, just drag the tip of the velocity bar up or down. Gravy.
  3. Hosa has EVERYTHING They're not the best quality, but they're not bad either.
  4. That is preposterous. MIDI isn't a sample in the first place, and if you were to use a General MIDI scheme from your sound cards synthesizer, you would come no where close to the quality of this. The timbre and smooth articulation changes of a real instrument and instrumentalist (though modern sampling techniques are getting close) just can't be beat (if they are good), especially when compared to General MIDI, with any sound card. Though, you can certainly try
  5. Great vibe. You've really improved production wise. Could've used a little more thickness from appropriate compression, to bring some of that great production to the front, but overall, it's a mix I'm more than happy to indulge in. This style is right up my alley.
  6. lmao "Catapult" - Beatdrop 'nuff said.
  7. Some people don't want to admit this, but it's the cold hard truth. It's sad to know how much people are missing out on (in any aspect) because their rush of nostalgia will never be matched, and therefore, keep a closed mind to concurrent ideas. I can understand where you are coming from, but regardless of whether it's free or not, the listener isn't going to show any bias because of this. At least, I believe they shouldn't. Sure there are certain elements to appreciate, but would you really want everyone to be all in favor of your lackluster pieces? That wouldn't give you an honest opinion to direct towards future pieces. So, even though people here can go outside and listen to bands out there, they are still here, at OCR. So apparently, it's not too bad for them And yes, I do very much disagree with the massive generalizations throughout this thread.
  8. I don't know. Did you download my example and hear the noise? It just doesn't sound like the result of a bow sliding across a string. It may be, I'm not a violin player, but I've never heard it before. I can notch filter it out for the most part regardless. There is a rumble to it. As for weird sounds: http://www.filefactory.com/file/4a74ef/ The first hit is close miked sordino slow, the second is surround miked sordino slow. Both on E5. First one clearly has talking (like you said about RA) and knocks, second has 2 knocks. Note the drop off of the noise floor at the end of the sample. That's not me cutting it off either.
  9. Nice live sound. Like the judges said, it doesn't deviate from the original melody too much but there's plenty accompaniment to keep it fresh. Great feel to the whole song. I felt as though the guitar and piano could have used a little more variation, especially the piano with the strictly staccato hits. Sucks that the short intro comprised 1/4 of the song, but, I guess that which you have less of you hold more dearer to your heart Oh and I really like your rendition "Eternal Wind".
  10. Amount of wealth ≠ Quality of music If that statement were true, I'd be a regular listener to mainstream radio. Ziwtra's a shining example of this. He used the free SoundTracker, and then the $70 tracker Renoise.
  11. I'm just using gold, but the original library should be the same. At least that's what I thought. Just to be sure, I'm using the 18V, not 11V. Pro XP might have added a sordino articulation for 11V. The knocks are definitely there though. Trying hitting E4 as well. At the very end of it's release, there is a sound like the tick of a clock. Oh well, I guess I'll have to make due.
  12. Quoted for agreement. Yeah what the hell happened to that little bugger. A WHILE ago he let me listen to some songs on an EP he was coming out with (songs not even on his site), but now, zilch. No activity. I love those songs. I also support this statement. HAHHHHHHN
  13. Try following the steps in this link: http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/change-irq-settings.htm You can check to see if you have an IRQ conflict, and if so, assign your sound card to a different IRQ either through the Device Manager or your BIOS. Edit: And also, I know it's simple, but make sure your onboard sound is disabled. If anything, check what IRQ assignment it has and then assign that same number to your Audiophile.
  14. Man, that's awful. From the acclaim I've read of Prof. Keith O. Johnson, I can't believe he's let something like this slip. I know there is a certain amount of realism they wanted to invest, like a few knocks and such typical of an orchestra, but they are overwhelming. For me at least. Check out 18V Sordino Slow. Hit E5 and hold it for a second. There's a couple loud knocks and you can literally hear the noise floor sharply cut off. Luckily, those sounds are located in the release sample, and you can just delete those zones in Kontakt. I am insulted by their lack of editing/proper recording. There seems to be a fix for these faults, but, the user should not have to make them.
  15. Good man. It's trial and error. You may not even find what you were looking to do initially, but you learn so much along the way.
  16. The velocity level of each note was only around 3/4 (the samples mapped from velocity level 106-127 aren't even triggered), and using my soundcards console and Sonar's console, the level doesn't go above -12 dB.
  17. I'm not very experienced with Symphonic Orchestra, but I've noticed there is some rather obtrusive white noise on many samples, specifically, the 11 violins. Now I'd understand there being some on the woodwinds, due to the type of blowing required to play them, but violins? I've noticed the same thing to a lesser extent on the VSL violins that come with Kontakt, and to an even lesser extent with the violins in the Orkester bank for Reason. It would seem as though the wetter the recordings are with reverb (larger rooms), the more noise. Maybe there are just so many reflections that it results in white noise? It just sounds pretty bad, and though I can EQ some of it out, that's beside the point. I shouldn't have to with my $500 library. I've checked out the soundsonline forums but didn't get much results. Just wondering if you guys are experiencing the same thing. Here is a short clip of notes C5-F5, 11V Sustain Vibrato: http://www.filefactory.com/file/195391/ Click the link at the bottom "Download for free with File Factory Basic"
  18. That's freaking cool. I'll still probably wait 6 months to a year before I upgrade. If I do. In the grand scheme of things, I would MUCH rather have a Mac, but the price/performance ratio just turns me off.
  19. Haha, Ft. Wayne, IN? Sweetwater's CEO Chuck Surack must've convinced them because from what I hear, there is NOTHING up there. Anyway, if I can, I'll probably go to that one so I can visit Sweetwater at the same time. That, or I'll go to the one in Columbus, OH.
