  3. At first I thought this was about the WIP sections. Which, would be cool as well. Though with some of those attempts, there's not much to say . OK i'm sorry...
  4. I'd like to see one on arrangement. Mainly because arrangement is more of a personal thing, as the aspect of "interesting and engaging" is in the eye of the beholder, and I'm always interested in seeing the creative views of different musicians. My second choice would be production.
  5. The snowball fights are pretty fun XD "Yellow Snow" - Remove one condition. You're next snowball causes disease. lol

  7. Hahaha... GONG!!! XD I've been checking the judges queue for this song to come up, but it got the direct post treatment, so even better (surprise!). I love every aspect of the production and arrangement of this piece. I've had my beef with the gong (which gives me the sudden rush to scream "Mortal Kombat"), but apparently it's a reference to within the game so it's all gravy. The initial bass line slide leads in very well and into a wonderfully dreamy setting full of smooth synths and pristine, metallic percussion elements that cut through just enough. People talk about how their initial visit to OCR brings the strongest emotions... well, mixes like this always keep it fresh for me. Thanks Jimmy.
  8. I was searching around soundsonline all day today... how did I not see this? Well, i'm gettin' it
  9. I might go along with that as well (i'm in Bullitt). My work schedule for the next week comes out on Friday, so I would know a week ahead. I might even ask off for it if the opportunity looks promising... who knows.
  10. And a shock mount and/or placement on something thick and soft (like polyurethane foam).
  11. That mission was so fun! I had just gotten the elite enchantment Unyielding Aura. We were in such a bind towards the end and that skill proved really useful. We didn't do very good, but it was a great/fun struggle.
  12. My step-brother started around the same time as me, but now he's way ahead of me. But, he's also practiced 4 or 5 times as much as me (he's also got crazy long filipino fingers...). I'm guessing the same can be attributed to your friends' progress, minus the fingers. Now that i've got this new guitar though, and the action is REAL friendly, i'm gonna tackle all of the monotonous finger exercises.
  13. http://www.zentao.com/guitar/ I have a couple FastTrack instruction books as well. The first thing I did was look up tabs, and thats it for the longest time, until I figured "Hey, I should UNDERSTAND what I'm playing". Drr. The first song I learned was Hotel California (pretty common from what I hear). Earlier than that though, me and my bro made a song making fun of my friend playing Final Fantasy all the time (it was basically us arpeggiating D Major). The song was dubbed "CJ is a Loser". The only real bad habit i've developed is not arching my fingers and pushing my whole palm against the back of the fret board, but other than that, i've done well without a teacher. A teacher would have been GREAT, but meh.
  14. My new video card is on it's way from Cali. My 64 MB card doesn't work well with 1280x1024. I've got a 20 Mo/E, and i'll probably play a little more when it comes in, but I don't have any expansions
  15. As long as you're connected (i'm guessing USB?) and your drivers are installed correctly it should be a no brainer. Choose your I/O from Options -> MIDI Devices, load up the PSYN II synth (optional), arm the MIDI track for record, and go at it. Well it detects my Fantom just fine. I'm referring to playback of MIDI data through the program through my speakers. The only way I've gotten it to work is by outputting MIDI data in to the Fantom and playing it back through there. FL works just fine though... maybe it's a sign? Have you tried getting any output through Sonar at all, not just MIDI? Maybe you have your sound card I/O set up wrong.

  17. Actually, you might be able to polish shit if it's hardened by freezing or some other process, formed into a sandable surface, sanded, and then coated with a poly... OK i'm done.
  18. Cubase or Pro Tools doesn't anymore I think the latest demo released for Cubase was in 2002, and Pro Tools a couple years ago. Oh yeah, don't count out Pro Tools either (unless, ya know, you want to). It doesn't get much support here but it's very common in recording studios due to it's hardware integration and processing power. Pro Tools LE is the home based version, and probably the one you'll be interested in (considering costs don't start at $10,000 like for Pro Tools HD). MIDI capabilities have vastly improved and there are different packs you can get that include more plug-ins if you wish. For $450, you get the Mbox 2 audio interface (with MIDI I/O), Pro Tools LE, the Ignition Pack with a host of popular software tools, and a very informative instructional DVD called Method One.

  20. I really doubt EQ would help your problem. You can't EQ in something that isn't there in the first place :-/ You may be able to cut something, but boosting anything (like boosting to get your highs back) will only bring up the noise floor and more of the muddiness around it. It's just like if you have a bad recording. The responded frequencies are already set in stone and boosting or cutting anything in a bad recording is essentially raising the bad and/or leaving the bad. If the exporting has cut off some of your quality, that's just the limitation of that process.
  21. Found Breakbeat Cafe. 600 for $10. I'm not sure about the legitimacy, but his eBay account has an impressive feedback rating.
  22. and posting a link to a video that's already been on this forum helps how? I'm sure a lot of things have been reposted, and unless everyone becomes an immaculate poster, it will probably happen again. I was just trying to give a relevant link on breaks that maybe SOMEONE ELSE might be interested in. GET OFF MY CASE MATTHEWS. yeah also posting stuff off topic really helps too. that stuff generally is best suited for the pm. zircon also happened to be the original poster of that video as well. http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85761&start=0 It wasn't off topic. It didn't answer the question directly, but it had relevance to the topic. This is a discussion forum... right? And considering the video was posted almost half a year ago and I had no idea it was here already... I think we can let it slide people. Do you really expect everyone to search the forum for every link they provide? Friggin' sticklers. At least I didn't make a thread about it.
