  1. wow! sounds so nice! But I think it will have a bit of a difficulty getting through the panel; the bass has to carry a much heavier burden in tracks like these. So you might want to write your bass line varied throughout the track, occasionally jumping between octaves and some cool slides at the right time will help as well. Since it has 80s feel to it (that's what you're going for ), why don't you add synth arpeggios (one of the trademark things in 80's music) as another layer? I think it will greatly help in getting rid of that simple/empty feeling to it. In any case, best of luck dude! The track sounds great as is
  2. scratch that, I decided to do about 7 minutes concept that covers the entire structure of the song. This is not a finished track by any means and needs tons of work. The reason it sounds muddy at the moment is because of the original vocal overlays (couldn't make it sound any cleaner) but it gives a good idea of what the final product will sound like. This will be fixed once I find someone to sing it for me but before that, take a listen; I would love to find out your thoughts on the track; like it? hate it? Concept 2 (6:51 minutes long): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/Concept2_XenoSaga_Lod.mp3
  3. 'Unbreakable Heart': Download MP3 The track is now finished and youtubed. Hope you guys enjoy this. Thanks for listening/watching Sources breakdown: 00:00 - 01:23 - Original Writing 01:24 - 02:07 - XenoSaga (Kokoro) 02:08 - 02:49 - Legend of Dragoon (If you still believe) 02:50 - 03:31 - XenoBlade (Gaur Plains - Night) 03:31 - 04:04 - XenoSaga (Kokoro) 04:05 - 04:57 - Super Street Fighter (Cammy's Stage) 04:58 - 07:30 - Legend of Dragoon (If you still believe) Sources: XenoSaga - Spirit [kokoro]: Legend of Dragoon - If you still believe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvDfIcMI3M4 Xenoblade - Gaur Plains (night): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bc7ivSn7sI Super Street Fighter - Cammy: ------- HISTORY ------- Okay another vocal track. For almost forever, I thought that "Kokoro" (XenoSaga) and "If you still believe" (LoD) can be mixed into one track and even the lyrics would make sense. So here I am trying to re-imagine both songs into one. As for breaks in vocals, I want to pay some tribute to XenoBlade and MagnaCarta 2. The style I've chosen can't be categorized, just think of it as your typical RPG town music blended into Latin pop + Middle Eastern music (does that make any sense?). Please note that nothing here is final and it is just a rough sketch of what I want to do with the ideas. Currently, I don't have anyone to sing it for me so I used original vocal parts (sounds a bit annoying at this time). But for now, I'd love to find out what you guys think of this direction so far WIP2 - Almost finished: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/Finished-Xenosaga-Lod-2.mp3 (re-done from scratch) New Version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/NewMix21-Xenosaga-Lod.mp3 Concept (Updated): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/Concept2_XenoSaga_Lod.mp3 As always, all feed back is greatly appreciated
  4. OMG! here's what I have to say; I am not a fan of piano solos at all, and I was blown away by this track. Incredible work dude!
  5. Guys, I know the picture on OCR frontpage is all kind of awesome but it makes everyone around me suspicious. There was one guy who actually asked if I was watching a hentai or something.... anyway, awesome album overall. Absolutely loving it! Great job everyone
  6. Nice video! oh and btw, I'm stealing this as the title to one of the mixes I'm currently working on ...... yeah I'm serious!
  7. Just started listening with the posted mix and already blown away. Looking forward to go through the whole album and have a blast
  8. Just saw this and I was like .. enough with the Mega Man remixes guys!! But man!!!!! what an amazing track. One of the best Mega Man mixes out there. Loving it all the way
  9. Dude! Don't give up. It's not about sub'ing and seeing your mix posted on the front page only; it's about getting better each time you get a NO. I've been through rejections many many times before I got my first mix accepted. I can't tell you how much I have learned (and hopefully improved) because of always having the goal to submit my stuff. Surely the bar is high but not impossible to reach. If a below average remixer like me can make it through judges panel, anyone can This track is really good and with a few tweaks here and there, will be ready for OCR front page. Keep at it and best of luck!
  10. This is one of my favorite tracks from Sonic (and for some reason doesn't get much attention). I like the mix although it is very close to the original. You aren't planning to sub it now do you?
  11. Nice to hear a finished track from you (Seriously, you need to finish your other stuff as well; most of them are great) The synths are a bit (just a bit) too sharp and loud. Also, how about adding some synth arpeggio patterns here and there? I think the mix can use a little more layers. I am not 100% sure it will get through the panel in its current form (i.e. if you are planning to submit it). But then again, I can be totally wrong Keep up the great work
  12. whoa!? How'd I miss it? Very very enjoyable mix. I'll have to say I enjoyed it more than the original! Excellent work all of you!
  13. Great remix! btw, fix your links to the newer version (404 not found error) in the later posts; only link that works is in the first post
  14. Amazing work here! The change to minor chords totally makes the track beautiful. I like it more than the original. I have no complains whatsoever but only wish there were more layers in the track (like strings, violins, flutes, bass etc.). But still, awesome remix as it is! Nice work!
  15. Excellent! I'm going to say I enjoyed it wayyyy more than the original. You have pointed out most of the issues already (guitar work, violin etc.) so let's move ahead. - Definitely replace violin with something else (synth as you said) - I think snare could use some reverb (or use a thinner snare with reverb) - Here's something I always do with my stuff. If hi hats are on auto-pilot, "hide" them behind everything. The give a very midi-sh feeling to "any" track. But my suggestion is to make a short pattern (maybe 2 measure long) and copy/pasta all the way - Last important bit is to introduce some 3 synth (or string) chords in the background to complete the accompaniment. - I think you need to re-think your synth choices (but wait for the panel's response to your FFX mix because I can be totally wrong and they might like it) Looking forward to hear next update. Keep it up
  16. Phew! It's finally done. 06 minutes 11 seconds long; I've never worked so hard on a song before (sooo tired). Writing string layers is really tough. Gerudo Valley makes it to the mix (with a bit of improvised melody). The ending will use lyrics from source but has original melody written. Here's the instrumental version until Sabrina puts in her vocals: Ancient Dreams (Instrumental): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/Nier_AncientDreams_ins.mp3 Hope you you guys like it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Once Sabi's vocals are in, this track will go through one last round of mixing In case you don't want to go through the whole thread, here's how the vocals are going to sound like: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/nier_wip0.mp3
  17. Please note that this track is currently at a conceptual level and her vocals are here just to give basic idea (you can call them 'draft' vocals). The final version will have everything re-recorded. Having said that, the original is also very plain in terms of vocals with not many variations. Also, I am already very happy with her 'draft' vocals so really excited to hear what the actual recording will sound like. The atmosphere of this track totally suits Sabrina's voice
  18. Very beautiful track. Though I've played Legend of Mana but can't remember the source. Can you please share the link to source? Still, this can use some more background layers of violin/strings/choirs/flute etc.
  19. You know what, there is a reason I came back to my post and put the un-porcessed version there While agreeing with you, let me tell you that I didn't even try to make the harmony effects better. I was just experimenting with the vocals (Now I think I shouldn't have put it here). Don't worry, I'm taking it very, very seriously. It's her debut track on OCR after all so I'm not going to take any risks. The harmony effects will be very minimal and "subtle" as always, thank you for your input!
  20. Thanks for the support guys! I finally got Sabrina to provide some (rough) vocals for the the track. Here's the updated track with her vocals: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/nier_wip01.mp3 Here's her original voice (with no vox effects just to show how beautiful her voice is): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3443029/My%20Remixes/WIP/nier_wip0.mp3 Please note that all vox effects (including harmony) is digitally created and not refined yet. The track is still in its conceptual stage. As always, any feedback is greatly appreciated
  21. Fanstastic work man! really awesome. I really wish I had time to contribute and be a part of this brilliant album It already looks like super awesome! Best of luck!
  22. sounds awesome!! a bit too repetitive but I'd like to see how it develops..
  23. Not at all! They just don't care about street dates over here.
  24. I actually got it about 8 days early and had a blast with the campaign (took me about 18-20 hours to finish). I think it's not only the best Gears yet but also one of the best shooters out there right now. And I can't thank EPIC enough to provide 3D support because the experience was exponentially better in 3D; it's currently the absolute best 3D XBOX360 game.
  25. I spent the whole day humming/singing this track! Can't get this out of my mind; awesome suff
