Yeah, you didn't read the thread. Dunno what iTunes limitations are, but since I don't use it to tag mixes, it's moot point. MP3tag handles more then 3 digits just fine, and iTunes diplays more than 3 digits in the track #s with no problem. It doesn't display the extra 0s we add in, which is fine.

Well, the ID3 tag titling might bother you a little, since those will have the Roman numerals, but for me, I always sort by filename, so it's not an issue. Also, we're not adding 1's for anything in filenames (e.g. "Super_Mario_Bros_1"; it'd be a waste time putting 1 on every game that's had a sequel, and it muddies up the proper name.

Yep. Proper game names for all filenames & titles. The filenames will continue using numbers instead of roman numerals.

I use Mp3tag as well. It's the album, and that's 100% on purpose. That's something we're always going to keep. Check the first post to see a rundown of the fixes I've done in preparation for redoing the files.

I've gone ahead and just merged 3 other threads about tagging into this one, so that people can look at the first post and be more likely to understand that this is already being worked on. Yep. Also, we didn't tag any genre fields with the URL; your Zune must be doing something weird. The album field is tagged with the URL, not the genre field. We can handle that. We upped the filesize limit to 8MB, so adding album art isn't a big deal. Also, there's no point doing a folder approach, because most people DL individual tracks. They'll be without album art, but I'll be sure to host a couple of tracks that people can use to test the revisions this weekend.

You are wrong. I use lavender soap that The Lady bought. I smell great. You can't buy everything off Amazon and have OCR get a cut, because not everything is available through our aStore. But most items in our demographic (games, computer parts, tech, comics, Blu-ray/DVDs, etc.) are eligible through the aStore. The aStore always clarifies when something's not available for purchase that way. OCR gets 6% of Amazon purchases, and there's 0 extra charge to the order.

The principle of the idea is good. Dunno how practical it would be, but a simpler answer that could be automated is the genre/moods/instrumentations showing when you hover over the ReMix name on the front page. But it all comes down to practicality and whether or not it would actually look good in practice, which I'm not sure of.

Would have to figure out a way to integrate that info, but doesn't sound like a bad idea. Just not sure how it would work with the front page.

Before we release another ReMix torrent, I want to give everyone the chance to replace ReMixes with our new larger filesize limit of 8.00MB, up from 6.00MB. This is an open offer to have ANY posted or to-be-posted ReMix on OCR replaced with a higher quality version. I don't care if it's from 1999 or if we posted it last week. This is JUST for allowing better encodings of smaller files. No remasters or edits are allowed; they won't be used for updates. We're ONLY looking for better encodings of existing mixes, please. Aside from existing files, which are grandfathered in, there are no exceptions to these rules: NO remasters or edits. Just reencode the WAVs/project files you have. Filesize cannot be larger than 8,388,608 bytes (8.00MB). Bitrate cannot be greater than 192kbps. (VBR with an upper limit above 192kbps is OK if the average bitrate is not greater than 192kbps.) Must be 44kHz stereo. (Not 48kHz or 32kHz.) Please mail me at larryoji@ocremix.org with either links or attachments to whatever mixes you want to replace with better encodings. If you have a lot of files, please be sure to host them. Once I compare & sign off on 'em, I'll hold onto them for when we upload the replacements onto the main site & new torrents. If any fans have higher quality versions of existing ReMixes that also qualify, please let me know as well in this thread. Thanks for your help, everyone!

One year ago, I'd sent an Oil Ocean remix for ya. It got rejected though, due to my lack of experience in what comes to music technical stuff, I assume... =P This time, I'm sending another Oil Ocean remix (hmm...). As I'd been practicing by creating my own original songs, I decided to take a risk and make a '50% original - 50% from source' thingy. Not sure if I succeed on that point for your judgements, but I'm all open for improvement tips. By the way, I really LOVED making the breakdown! Couldn't help but include some latin beat to it. And so you might tell what made me think of the "Nights" on the mix title, apart from the obvious electronica elements... 8D Thanks, ribbits, more to come! ---------------------------------------------------------------- The string tone sounded thin, and the articulations were a bit fakey, but serviceable. The beatwork was a little too loud compared to the other elements, so the balance needs to be adjusted. The quality of the brass samples was low, and most of the elements were pretty fake-sounding, but the articulations were generally decent enough and those issue were downplayed by relatively good composition, IMO. The new writing ideas are decent, though most of them went into pretty liberal territory, with overt, distinct parts from the original being sprinkled in every so often. Offhand, the arrangement seemed too liberal, but only by a small margin, and could easily be pulled back into being OK by using the source a little more often. All in all, this is a pretty good contender for a resub once some tweaks are made. Nice start, Guilherme. NO (resubmit)

Just want to mention, we're already underway with working to automate the submissions process, though it's a lower priority than other stuff we're working on. We will not embrace a system with votes, yet no required feedback for evaluating subs. There's much less benefit to having judge feedback come after voting. Generally, when we vote on a track, we're done with it; we have a lot more material to go through, so we don't bother revisiting the old. We also DON'T encourage voting a vacuum, which is why we can read and challenge other judges votes. We don't have to write books on our votes, but encouraging voting without explanations or being able to see what others said is foolish because it lacks accountability and encourages kneejerk reactions. Having to write out your reasons and the ability to challenge others to justify their reasoning benefits the process. Also, the # of votes needed wouldn't change. We don't require every judge to vote on everything, that would slow the process. We don't want user feedback intertwined with submissions evaluations. Users are not involved in that process. Users decide what they like based solely on what they hear, and they have different agendas than judges or even people attempting to give WIP feedback (who ALSO differ from the judges). All that needs to stay separate. I'd like to see the ability to stream audio from whatever outside URL you provide, to encourage more feedback in the WIP forums. Beyond automating the posting of submissions to the panel and embedded streaming of MP3 files, I think we're fine.
