  1. ReMixer Name: DJ Deville Real Name: Matt Bartlett Email: cadillacmatt@satx.rr.com Website: www.myspace.com/210djdeville UserID: 31721 Game: Castlevania Symphony of the Night Original Track: Dracula's Castle Remix Title: Alucard's Awakening Hey guys, I recently finished an electropop remix of "Dracula's Castle" I've been working on for the past couple weeks... hope it serves as a valuable OCRemix! This game has to be one of my favorite over the years... and the soundtrack is absolutely one of the best. I've recently taken a break from producing hip-hop beats and went back to my roots in electronica/VGmusic and I had a lot of fun doing this track. Thanks! -Matt (DJ Deville) ------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qh_uhV0ta0 The voice clips were tacky as hell, but they're there for pure cheese, so I can live with 'em, though they could be better integrated into the soundscape. Arrangement-wise, there were some decent ideas here. Texturally, however, this was too sparse, and a lot of the electrosynth work sounded generic and bland. With more meat on the bones, it could be a contender, but it would take a LOT of work to adequately flesh this out and upgrade some of the cornier sounds. And that's the short and sweet of it. NO
  2. If all was Wright in Chicago Hey J's, This is a track I worked on for FBR2009. It was well received, at the time, so I tweaked the EQ a bit & added a stronger bass to give it a more rounded sound for OCR. The sources are from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney's Gumshoe theme ( ) and Perfect Dark's Chicago Stealth theme ( ).It's an Electronica style remix with a violin part, designed to be set as the soundtrack for an old 'Noir' film (hence the genre 'Tech-noir'). I've never played any Phoenix Wright games, to be honest, but if I do I'll probably be surprised to find out that Detective Gumshoe isn't anything like the classic detective from the old black-&-white movies I seemed to associate him with. Enjoy! -------------------------------------------------------------- The piano had stiff, mechanical sequencing, plus 0 room ambiance, so it sounded extremely sparse and did nothing to fill the soundscape. The way it didn't mesh with the rest of the song at all stuck out like a sore thumb. Same with the strings; you need to actually give them more body via effects, otherwise the overall texture is just too thin. Arrangement-wise, I liked the combination of source tunes, but the piano and strings need work, and you need to put more meat on the bones with these sounds to fill out the textures a bit more. Not sure you can get this where it needs to be, but see how far you can take this. NO (resubmit)
  3. Oh I thought that was just for mixes, my bad. What's an "ella guro" anyway? Sounds like nonsense.
  4. These are caught up.
  5. These are caught up.
  6. Nothing in the submissions inbox from him, so it seems like that's not it.
  7. Are you a posted ReMixer then?
  8. Awesome trailer.
  9. The album just blew up AGAIN: http://blog.livedoor.jp/goldennews/archives/51480666.html Congrats, everyone!
  10. I'll look at somes. [sic]
  11. Interesting. Are you saying that for whatever tracks the year displays on your Zune but for others it doesn't? Would it be a character limit issue or something like that? If you have MP3 that do display the year properly on your Zune, mail me some (larryoji@ocremix.org) and I'll see if I can figure out a common demonimator.

  13. It's clear that this conflict needs to be settled by Turkish oil wrestling. I abstain from watching.

  15. Remixing is based on sampling the original audio tracks, whether that's slicing/manipulating the original instrumental and/or vocal track, or creating a brand new instrumental track while retaining the original vocal track. Arrangement is transposing/adapting a composition into other instrumentation. ReMixing (capital R, capital M) = rearrangement. Rearrangement, I treat as a level beyond arrangement with a greater level of interpretation (section 4 of the Standards). There are traditional remixes that use a lot of the same interpretive techniques as OC ReMixes, but the main difference is that remixes sample with the original audio and OC ReMixes (in a supermajority of cases) don't. When you hear melodies and other things from video game music in OC ReMixes, those are usually sequenced by the ReMixer rather than taken from the original audio. That's just how I've come to view those terms; other folks may have different perspectives and definitions.
  16. 1. I had already cleared out every possible unnecessary field via MP3tag, so this came as a surprise. But the reason this was still around is because the "Release Time" field can only be manually added into MP3tag; it wasn't selectable. Either way, that caught 170 old mixes with that old data still in there. Good catch, I'm glad we took care of that. 2. I'll upload something post-1000 later tonight. 3. There were 2 or 3 other incorrect years that I fixed as well, mostly ones posted near the turn of the year. Glad you noticed. I've thought about using the URL Audio File/WWWAUDIOFILE field to add the URL for each ReMix, but I have no idea what MP3 players use that data. If anyone knows of a program that does so, let me know.
  17. That's a conscious decision. It's "Encoded by" in Winamp 2 and "Encoded" in Winamp 5, so I'm OK with how I'm using it. It's much more important to me to actually promote the ReMixer and their contact info. There's a separate "Encoder Settings" tag that overrides the "Encoded by/with" field in iTunes if it's filled out. Yep, that's just a test tag that a few other mixes have, but won't be in the final file. Glad you noticed it. If there are other fields filled out, the Album Artist field isn't working, or any other issues like that, everyone please let me know.
  18. Here's 18MB of test mixes, retagged. I threw in some bootleg album art. They're all early mixes. Please play these files in various programs and let me know what issues, if any, you encounter. http://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BzZ-TkKWy5oLZmZhMTVjZTYtZmY5Zi00ZGI5LTlhYmMtMWE0ODdmYjZiOWZj&hl=en
  19. It's fine. Doug covered it.
  20. Yeah, you didn't read the thread. Dunno what iTunes limitations are, but since I don't use it to tag mixes, it's moot point. MP3tag handles more then 3 digits just fine, and iTunes diplays more than 3 digits in the track #s with no problem. It doesn't display the extra 0s we add in, which is fine.
  21. Well, the ID3 tag titling might bother you a little, since those will have the Roman numerals, but for me, I always sort by filename, so it's not an issue. Also, we're not adding 1's for anything in filenames (e.g. "Super_Mario_Bros_1"; it'd be a waste time putting 1 on every game that's had a sequel, and it muddies up the proper name.
