I'll admit that I was disappointed when I found that this wasn't actually a remix of the "Underground BGM", as that's my favorite song from the game. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this. My favorite part would have to be the ending, which caught me off guard in a good way and kept everything fresh. Good stuff!

Circumstantial Zen - NEW ALBUM RELEASE!
about:blank replied to zykO's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Damn, this is certainly some interesting and creative stuff. I like the vocals, up until now I'd only been familiar with the vox you did for "Invertebrate Retreat" and "Niggaz 4 Life" but these are completely different and equally great as well. If I had to pick a favorite track off this album, it would easily be "The Dangerous Things". The acoustic is great, and your singing really shines here IMO. Honorable mentions would have to go to "Everything You'd Expect of a Hero" and " ... this way comes". Overall, though, this is a very cool album and it certainly doesn't sound like the typical techno/trance/electronic that you mostly hear 'round these parts. This is something very different, and I mean that in a good way. -
This is awful... I never knew him, and I'm not even very familiar with much of his work, but it's just heartbreaking when anyone that's young and has so much potential has to go in such a horrible way. Like many others, I'm going to make it a point to listen to all of his works today. Though this is horrible, I think that events like this go to show how OCR is such a close-knit community where, for the most part, everyone really cares and is concerned for one another. R.I.P Reuben, you will be sorely missed.

I forgot all about Alisia Dragoon! That game had such an awesome soundtrack (especially the tune for Stage 1-1). Also, Jim Power had an amazing soundtrack, definitely some of Chris Hülsbeck's best work. With the exception of a few boss themes, almost all of the tracks on the SPC are absolutely amazing. I think I might take a stab at remixing a track from the game someday, as it desperately needs some coverage here.

OCR01650 - Pokémon Red Version "Clairvoyant Eulogy"
about:blank replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Up until recently, I hated the whole Pokemon franchise. However, a friend of mine finally convinced me to play it, and I completely changed my mind! I didn't really like anything off the soundtrack except for the source to this song (which was played in a ghost town or something, I think). The original track had such a heavily detuned, odd, avante garde feel to it that made it creepy and just plain badass in my opinion. Anyway, I felt this mix did an awesome job of taking that creepiness to the next level. I love the industrial drums, and the distorted synth that comes in at 0:40 is awesome. All in all, great job on taking the source to a whole new level while still maintaining the creepiness and feel of the original. -
Anything composed by Kenji Ito, especially the first SaGa Frontier.

Check out my Mario Kart 64 Music Video. :)
about:blank replied to Nicholestien's topic in General Discussion
This is great man, of all the countless hours I've spent playing Mario Kart, the only shortcut I knew about was the one on the beach level (which is a pretty obvious one, actually). Anyway, awesome vid! -
come on, it's obviously tetris

The worst thing about drunk drivers, at least in my experience, is that most of the time, they want to drive. In fact, most of them think that "having a couple in them" makes them even better at driving. I've been in a few situations where I had to get in a car with someone who was drunk [or stoned], and I always offer to drive the vehicle for them. However, this just seems to piss them off, and then they try to "prove themselves" by showing me how capable they are of driving whilst intoxicated. If I continue to offer to drive, they start to become violent. So it's a scary situation either way you look at it. That being said, I know that not everyone is an "angry drunk" and that most people would probably let someone else drive if they were intoxicated. Still, It's just absolutely horrifying that some people seem to have no problem with driving under the influence. Also, I agree with this wholeheartedly, and if this is implemented, I sure hope that it's a secure system. Because chances are, some crazy bastard is going to try to find a way to bypass it.

I think it's horrifying that at any point while driving, someone could potentially run straight into your vehicle, and either kill you or leave you badly injured. I've encountered so many frightening situations on the road. One situation involved me driving my girlfriend to Junior Prom. We accidentally went the wrong way. So, we went to find a place to turn around, and it ended up being a store that specialized in selling pornography. I didn't think this was too big of a deal considering we were just turning around, but... her parents were right behind us, and she started flipping out and yelling at me to get out of there as fast as possible. So, being the naive young driver that I was, I backed out without looking, and someone smashed her side of the vehicle. Thankfully he'd slowed down enough to prevent any injuries, but the damages were a little over 1000 dollars for both vehicles [according to the cop]. A year later, I witnessed another accident during Senior Prom. While I was driving home, I saw what looked like a huge lightning bolt in the sky. About a mile later, some guy stopped me and said that I couldn't go any further because there were power lines all over the ground. Apparently one of my friends fell asleep at the wheel and hit a telephone pole head on. Thankfully, he was okay, but he did total his Grandma's brand new Escalade. More recently, I was driving on the interstate, and there was an 18-Wheeler coming up behind me fast. However, he didn't pass me. A few miles later, everything merged into one lane because of road construction. At this point, he tries to pass me while we're both on the one lane road. Somehow, he made it, but he was practically forcing my car off the road. All I can say is that I think that licenses are being handed out too early. I can say, from personal experience, that I was certainly not ready to drive when I received my license, even if I thought I was.

THE TRILOGY IS COMPLETE! Sure, this isn't as funny as the first one, or even the second. Nothing is gonna match the moment that he started dancing like crazy in the first Numa, that was just hilarious. However, this still made me laugh. So, I hope that this guy keeps making videos.

Hell, he doesn't have Contra III, The Guardian Legend, Jim Power, Destiny of an Emperor, Super Mario RPG, or even Chrono Trigger for that matter.

You absolutely need to try to resubmit this. I read the judges decision on this and it seems like this has the potential to be on OCR. Your best bet with this would be to follow the judges advice on arrangement and production while still keeping your creative intent. If you fix all of the problems they addressed, then I don't see why this would get a NO vote IMO. Personally, I think this is a really cool experimental mix. I'd love to see more stuff like this on the site, and I'm sure quite a few others would too. So please try to resubmit this!

This is great. I can't believe nobody said anything about Image 4. That's definitely my favorite track here. IMO It provokes a lot of interesting "imagery", especially given the title of the EP. All in all, while this may not be music for everyone, it's a very creative and cool EP. This is something that I can see myself listening to in the future while surfing the web or doing homework or something of that nature. Very cool stuff, I can't wait to hear more!

Irategamer Videos "intro music" question
about:blank replied to DKnight2066's topic in General Discussion
I've never heard that song, but damn... this guy is like a carbon-copy of James Rolfe [the Angry Video Game Nerd], he even reviewed some of the same games as him! Anyway, if you're talking about the theme to Requiem for a Dream (which was also used in the Trailer for The Two Towers), then this wouldn't be the place to look, OverClocked ReMix only has remixes of songs from video games. Sorry I couldn't help you find the song, though. -
OCR01623 - Final Fantasy VII "Black Wing Metamorphosis"
about:blank replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love how this is like half the length of the source, but just as epic, if not moreso. I'm downloading the torrent right now, and I plan on seeding this for a long time. Great job guys! -
Alright, you've made quite a few changes in this update, and while it's much more cohesive, I'm still gonna point out some things with this that I feel you should work on. 0:00 - 0:28 - Some of the parts here are kinda fake sounding. Maybe it's just because I've used Sytrus before, but a lot of the ambient sounds sound somewhat fake, especially the gulls. My advice to you on this area would be to go to http://www.findsounds.com/ and find your sounds there. You can practically find almost any sound you're looking for, and more. Plus, it's free! It also seems like that pad you're using is overpowering everything, I'd turn it down a little bit. 0:29 - 2:10 - The reversed cymbal is a nice way to lead in to the next part, but I think there should be some kind of "oomph" when that part hits, maybe a slight crash or bass drum or something. On the subject of bass drums, I could hardly hear the bass drum during this part, you should definitely make the bass drum hit a little harder. There are also certain parts where it sounds like it gets too loud and things get over compressed. Overall, most of the instruments in this section seem like they're just backing instruments for the most part. You should definitely try to work in some type of lead somewhere during this segment. 2:10 - 3:08 - The transition here is pretty cool IMO, so props on that. Everything is sounding alright up until 2:25, where you introduce the electric guitar synth. It sounds menacing enough, but you should probably change it to something that doesn't sound like it's trying to imitate an electric guitar, like just a regular synth with some distortion effects or something like that. Also, like the last section, this would really benefit with some type of lead instrument. With the voices and everything, it sounds like a pretty epic outro, but everything still sounds like it's backing something, like it's the support for some potentially awesome lead melody. Overall, I think your main concern should be just checking out some free soundfonts and VSTs, you can find a bunch in this thread: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4556 By just spending some time screwing around with some of the free sounds that the internet has to offer, you can greatly improve upon this. Adding a lead instrument should be one of your top priorities as well. You've improved quite a bit on this since you've started, but it still has a long way to go if you want to get this submitted. OCR has a very high bar set for ReMixers, but that's why you hear nothing but kick-ass music from the site. Just remember that there's always people in the WIP forum, as well as the judges, who will give you advice on a mix.

OCR01642 - Super Mario RPG "Leafcutter"
about:blank replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is the song that plays when you're in Smithy's factory, right at the end of the game. If it helps, I think the area was mostly gray. Also, I just listened to this with headphones and it was like a totally different experience. I picked up on so many subtle things like the panning with the drums, and some cool stuttering effects. -
OCR01642 - Super Mario RPG "Leafcutter"
about:blank replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Totally kickass, this was one of my favorite themes from SMRPG (Second only to the Forest Theme). It was kinda hard to recognize the source near the beginning, but I could hear it, and around the second movement of the song, it was instantly recognizable. Cool remix, cool drums, cool time signature, I can't really complain about anything here. I'm definitely saving this. Great work! -
I enjoy the vocals in the intro, but they seem to get a little stale after a while. It does sound very nice at first, though. Also, I think some parts of this mix seem a little dissonant, and at times, I feel like the percussion doesn't fit in with the song. I also feel that some of the samples sound a tad fake. I'd work mainly on getting some better samples (check out zircon's sample thread in the ReMixing forum) and just making everything flow a little more cohesively. Other than that, this song has potential and I think you should stick with it! I'll give you some more feedback when you make your next update.

Final Fantasy 9 'You are not alone in the club' (dance/trance)
about:blank replied to NeoS's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This has a very nice polished sound to it, IMO. I think intro might be a little too long, but that's just personal taste. As for the song itself, I think some parts could have some more going on, like 1:10 to 2:00 for example. However, once things really start to pick up, it's very nice to listen to. I especially like the outro part that starts around 4:10. I think that you'll most likely receive borderline votes from the judges on this one. The production is great and everything sounds nice, but some parts just drag on a little. I can't really give advice, considering this has already been submitted, but if this doesn't get passed, I'd try to add more variation in some parts of the song. Best of luck with getting this judged! -
[Release] Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Yellow Valkyrie

This is awesome. I love the lead synth that you introduce around 0:54. Pure badassery.
