  1. This song is quite unique, with some good execution. Synth sounds are pretty good for their age, but I would love to hear this updated. Good energy throughout the mix, sections and instruments change up right when I was going to comment on them being a bit stagnant. Nice work.
  2. First off, congratulations to everyone on HD remix. Nice groove on this. I can see how it wouldn't have worked in a real videogame setting, but as a standalone it works quite well. DJP's style is apparent in this track. I like the bass throughout, and the drums. The only drawback is the ending, which is a little too uprupt for my taste. Aside from that, nice work!
  3. Drums at the beginning are super sweet, got me interested right away. Whether or not they keep my interest, it depends on the part of the song I'm listening to. Generally it's a dancy-technoey track that if listened to closely can get repetative. Makes for a pretty good background track, though. Overall an interesting track to listen to every so often.
  4. I don't know the source, so I can't talk about genre switching, but I agree with OA. The guitar is overly loud and overall most everything is muddy, which detracts overall from the track. If things were cleaner and more balanced, I would have found this more enjoyable. That and a mandolin breakdown would have been pretty cool.
  5. I've always enjoyed this mix, although it's just way too short. It feels like the opening of something bigger, except the bigger part doesn't come. I agree with DJP that the snare should have been brought out more, and the samples aren't the greatest, but certainly not the worst either. Overall, would like MORE!
  6. I'll have to check out the update later, but what I'm hearing so far I like. Driving, epic feel, good energy. Nice transitions throughout to keep things fresh. Nice work, there should be more reviews on this one.
  7. Very pretty. I've listened to this a few times, and have enjoyed it each time. The piano sound doesn't bother me. Overall, I like how the original material transitions to source tunes. Nice work.
  8. I will start by saying that a lot of good stuff is going on in the track. The solo is slick, the mixing is great, and the arrangement is pretty good. Overall I don't like it, though. The first minute's too iffy, and the stylistic change overall just doesn't sit well with me. Plenty of good things, but just not something I could get into. Sorry.
  9. On drugs indeed. Whew, that was a trip. There is definately a musical journey in this one. Whether or not it's entirely in a dream, or something drug induced, I'm not quite sure, but there's a lot of cool stuff going on. The ethnic section in general is quite well done, and probably my favorite part of the mix. The mix doesn't feel as long as it is, which is a good thing. I can't believe you got nearly 4 minutes out of the source, kudos on that. Overall, trippy, and a good job.
  10. I can see why the Turk's theme would be so difficult to mix. I give Dan a ton of credit for what he's done with this track, it's quite impressive. The mood at the beginning is perfect, and really brings some flavor into the original. Much more badass, which is great. I can't, however, fathom the gregorian chant. I read the write-up, and no one else really seems to have an issue with it, but I find it to be very random and out of place. I can't say it does it for me. The ending also is quite sudden, what with a nice introspective breakdown that leads back to the main riff, only to fade out very quickly. I think the first half of the track is really great, but those two issues kinda kill it for me. Otherwise it's some impressive work with a difficult original.
  11. Don't know either source (it's on my queue of games to play...someday), but this mix is fantastically arranged. Emotionally charged, with a wide range of dynamics and contrasts. Stylistically sounds exactly what Jeremy was going for. My favorite part is at 3:52, where the strings build up to a huge section...only they suddenly pull back for a gentle moment. Very tricky. Great job.
  12. I've always enjoyed this piece, but I have a few complaints with it. The transition at 1:54 is very awkward. Also, I feel like when there is soloing going on, the source stays away for too long, in sections. I would hav eliked a little more inferences. That being said, the 'teasing' of the melody through the first two minutes was very creative, and I enjoyed that part a lot. When the meldoy does finally come in as a whole it is nicely arranged as well. The track is very smooth, nice to relax too. Nice work.
  13. The thread got moved to projects! Motivation to work on Big Chocobo.
  14. Ha, now that I've read that, I can't get it out of my head. Perfect for an intermission! Fade-out's kinda meh, wish there was a real ending on there. Other than that, cute little mix!
  15. Nice adaptation of the original. Perfect fit, and wonderfully done. Couple of gripes, though. Too short, and too long of an intro. Lastly, I'm not totally crazy about the synth used at 1:16, but I see how it fits. Still a good listen.
  16. Bothers me that now I can't get out of my head that this sounds exactly like those commercials I've seen for the animusic DVDs. The soundsets (or most of them) have to be the same. It's catchy, and unique, however, and an impressive feet to stretch out the theme for that length of time. Certainly not the best thing out there, but appreciable. Ok, but WTF at the ending? Seriously.
  17. Odd that I just reviewed another Lemmings mix not a few days ago that employed the same 'Let's Go' sound byte, and here I am again with it. Weird how you keep running into things right after you first learn or experiance them. Anyways, this puts a damper on my perfectly good bad mood, if that makes sense. Very trippy, kinda hard not to bounce in my chair as I listen to this. I agree with Rozovian that the mix feels a little empty, but it doesn't really detract incredibly from the mix. Nice work, and welcome aboard.
  18. Quite a beautiful melody. Don't know the source, but as I hear it here I'm really drawn into it. Orchestral setting is perfect for the mood of the piece, and everything moves nicely together. Very pretty.
  19. I think John did a nice job with this mix. Lot's of brass, which can be risky depending on the sample and how it's mixed, but he get's the job done pretty well. The music box section was my favorite, until the strings came in. I felt like the entrance wasn't timed very well there. Also a fan of the 'tick tock' percussion and how it played out with the brass, strings, and other percussion. Nice details there. The piece doesn't wow me as much as I'd have liked it too. I would have liked one huge section near the end. Something almost over the top. Overall a good job, and worth listening to and keeping.
  20. Upbeat, cute, but I do not detect Christmas. The name confuses me. Every instrument distorts, and not in a bad way. Very interesting, and unique. Nice work.
  21. Cute mix, made me smile for a bit. Drums really bring it out, but everything compared feels too quiet. Bring one up, or the other down. The bassline was fun, it might be what I enjoyed most about the piece. Aside from that, the sound choices didn't really grab me. It seems that it was more a stylistic choice, but I wasn't crazy about them. Cute, worth a listen, not sure if it's a keeper yet, though.
  22. OA's got it right. Feels like it should really be energetic, but the drums are really lifeless, and it drags down the mix. Get some more power and variation on the set and it would probably add a little excitement back in.
  23. The song definately feels like it was played live, though overall the volume seems a bit low. Guitar solos are really well done, and the synth combination works quite well. I can't say I really felt 'grabbed' by this mix, though. Maybe it's the low volume, or the unfamiliarity of the source, but there's something about it that prevents it from being pushed to the next level for me. I'll have to think on it for a while. Still worth getting, and a nice job by these two mixers.
  24. There's something to be said for how often we tend to overcomplicate things. This provides a wonderful contrast; simple, bouncy, and fun. Very enjoyable.
  25. I dig this. Great adaption, and the weird mesh of styles fits just right. Awesome.
