  1. Really atmospheric, which I think is the biggest draw in this mix. Not much is changed melodically, but the feel that it creates is refreshing. Definately an enjoyable mix, one that's been in my library for a while now.
  2. I could tell right away that this was going to be a good track. Definately a lot going on that really catches my attention. Kinda long, but never boring. Groovy, definately funky, worth getting.
  3. This is an enjoyable mix. Really laid back, good a good groove to it, percussion is really nice. Nothing at fault, though as some mentioned, it's not something I'd listen to just for listening, it's more of a background piece. A keeper, though. Nice work.
  4. I just can't get myself to appreciate this one. The trumpet sound really bothers me, and I think that's the reason for most of it. Entrance is definately too long, as well. It is certainly creative, I can't fault it for that, but I really could barely even listen to all of it. Really not the mix for me, sorry.
  5. Not the best of McVaffe's works, as pretty much everyone's mentioned, but it has it's enjoyable moments. A little too close to the source for me, (melodically and stylistically)I would have liked something else going on. Decent, but McVaffe has better.
  6. A nice fresh take on a theme that we hear all too often (maybe even way too often? nahhhh). Some slick stuff going on, and things flow together nicely. The breakup where the violin came in seemed a little out of place, maybe the transition's a bit sudden, but it doesn't bother me that much. I'm not particularly crazy about it overall, but it's personal taste rather than anything that really brings the mix down. Nice work by the OneUps.
  7. Wonderfully emotive. I love how both themes were incorporeated together, they work quite well, which I wasn't expecting. Minimilistic, but with good reason. Really sets the tone of the 'desolate' feel. Great performance all around. Good job.
  8. I've loved this mix for a long time, and I just now read the write-up. This isn't a live piano? HOLY CRAP. The humanization of this is amazing. I personally love this mix; the way the melody wanders in and out, the quiet, introspective feel, all of it. I listen to this one often, and will continue to do so for a long time. Great work.
  9. I'm curious why this is named "Maridia Remix" when it is of a Brinstar theme. Regardless, easily my favorite track from the game, and possibly any Metroid game (though I will admit I still haven't played any of the Primes, shame on me). The rising synth heard throughout is interesting, but it annoys me personally. It fits with the track, though, so I can't fault it. Overall I think what I'm not crazy about is that the entire first minute and 20 seconds or so is a continuous build-up where something new comes in every 4 measures or so. Perhaps it's a little to predictable to me. Short strings work well here, along with whatever the short synth is playing in the background. The bass works surprisingly well with the mix, not the greatest sound quality, but it fits. I like the dropout section, and the return back. Overall a decent mix that I don't mind listening to every so often. (BTW, for some reason in the file info it says 'Metroid', not 'Super Metroid')
  10. This piece still remains pretty good after all this time. It has some faults that show it's age, in that the sound quality (while I'm assuming pretty good for it's time, certainly not the worst I've heard) is a little fake sounding in the woodwinds. I'm also not crazy about the chimes and splash cymbal, ut it could just be me. Personally, I think Kaijin did a good job speeding up the tempo, and it creates a new feel for the song (a little more uplifting). Not too much interpretation to the source, but that's alright, the style and added stuff does enough to really make it shine on it's own. My favorite part is literally about 3:02-3:05 in the guitar. It just struck me as really cool. I don't think this surpasses the OST in my opinion (which holds a special place in my heart, and I like the regular tempo more compared to this mix), but still a very good mix. Nice work.
  11. Pretty good even with the samples used. Definately groovin' with this. Maybe a tad repetative, but enjoyable throughout. Nice work.
  12. Cute melody with a nice approach. Never played the game, but I can picture what it would be like from this mix. It does get a bit stagnant after the Xth time through the same melody, but it never really got boring. Intro and outtro work well. Nice work.
  13. Little too mechanical for me. The xylophone (doesn't sound like a vibe to me) is much to dry in terms of interpretation and humanization that I almost immediately lost interest. The jazz style is a nice idea, but the relaxed feel with the harsh lead is too much contrast.
  14. Drums do a lot for this mix. Most certainly the best part of the mix. The bass is hit or miss to me. Sometimes it works, and other times I'm not feeling it. Same for the synth on the melody. Overall, it's alright to me, not something I'd listen to often, though.
  15. As I don't actually mix, I will just say that I am available for someone looking for female vocals. I write lyrics as well. Never played the game, but I've heard it's good.
  16. Two tips: Sing in the car ALWAYS. It's a place where no one has to hear you, and makes travel time much more fun. Sing to anything, and everything. Record yourself often. The more you do it, and listen to yourself, the more you can see what you need to do. Find what you have to do that sounds good when you play it back, and work on being able to do that.
  17. Good lyrics, nicely performed. I'm not crazy about the production on the first verse, it's much harder to make out. I'm not sure why it changed from one verse to the next, anyways. The 'robot' voice for the few words works, however. I agree with it being mixed too high. I'm expecting a lot more bass out of this, but perhaps I'm too used to the 'typical' setup for a rap song? Anyways, good job by Beatdrop and MC Mouse.
  18. It's just long overall. A little too much repetition, though it fits the style. I like the squiggly line that you hear near the beginning, both in and out of time. Adds a nice touch. Would have liked more variation on the theme, even if it was a few change-ups here and there. Just something to make it stand out a bit more. Vocal samples don't bother me, but I'm not crazy about them either. A decent piece overall.
  19. This sounds familiar, despite having never played the game. Odd. This mix has some odd stuff going on, but never in a bad way. I'm impressed how things kept moving, and the track never lost intensity. I'm not crazy about the 'war sounds', but I've always found that sort of stuff to be gimmicky. No problem with the fade out, it works nicely here. Good work.
  20. Strange, very strange. I can see this one some sort of 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' scene. Thousands of frogs, all looking at me... Nothing really wrong with the mix, it's just a strange thing that is cool in it's own right, but not enough for me to want to keep listening to.
  21. Not a big leap from the original arrangement, but upping the tempo and the synths used make this a nice change of style from the original. I've always enjoyed listening to this, and DJP does a good job, as usual. Interesting to learn this was his first FF and Fiftieth mix.
  22. It's a different style, but I always thought the quality wasn't much better than the original, which really drags it down. This mix has been in my library a while, but it doesn't really stick out. It's a good adaption from the original, but it isn't really able to keep my attention.
  23. Yay oboe! This site needs more oboe, if you ask me. Lovely melody, and a very nice listen. The write-up brings back good memories, too. Whether or not that helps this mix, I dunno, but if it does it's a good thing. Guitar work is nice, the style seemed out of place at first, but now I'm digging it. Percussion also works very well. Would have liked a little more out of the ending, maybe a quiet piano outtro. Overall great work.
  24. Choir sounds really good. Samples are amazing for that. Overall, this is a good mix, but it's just not grasping my attention. Good combination of styles, and everything is used effectively; I just can't keep interest. Sorry.
  25. Very good percussion, love the variety used. Flutes are a bit too fake compared to the rest of the mix, but they don't really detract too much from the mix overall. Love the breakdown, it comes at just the right time to vary things up. Same with the solo at the end, although I would have liked a little return of something melodic before the cut out (which is a little uprupt). Overall still a good mix after all this time.
