  1. The builds and falls are really nice, and the sounds are gelling very strongly. The sequencing is exciting and vibrant, and the beat is mixed up enough to feel dynamic. Nice breaks and builds, and a good source selection rounds this out as being a solid track; i'm very glad you revisited this one. Yes
  2. Playing is still a touch stiff in the early parts, but the drums sound a lot better, which definitely helps to gel it together. Some of the transitions could have been a bit more pronounced, with some melodic runs to further lead the ear, but there were some decent drum fills to give a little bit of warning between heading to new sections. The mixing is a lot better on this iteration, and the only qualms I have with it now are minor details, like some of the drum sequencing humanization, and some of the guitar timing. The arrangement feels personalized and there is some good interplay between the sources, as well as some cool new harmonies. It's not pristine, but I do think it clears the bar. Yes
  3. Besides the accordion being a touch too quiet for my tastes, this is a huge improvement. The vibe is good, the transitions between themes remains solid, and the opening is a lot nicer. I think the filtered arpeggio was pushed a touch hard but still sounds good, and overall the sounds felt good to me. The crowd noise was just on the edge of being too much, but as is, added a bit, as did the plugging in noises at the beginning. This is much better and i'm going to yes it. Yes
  4. This is definitely an improvement, though a few parts still stick out a little to me. The woodwinds early on sounded pretty thin and exposed, and the room sound on them sounded a bit off compared to the piano and strings. The brass sounds similarly exposed when it comes out, though the drums tie things together a bit. I think overall the woodwind and brass treatment isn't matching the piano and strings, and as-is, is making it sound less cohesive than it could be. Definitely a step up, but needs a little more polish! Hit me up if you want more detailed critique! No, please resubmit
  5. he is super badass, but his talent would be wasted in our group, since the key parts are typically very basic
  6. oh? I mean, Amy or I could both do keyboard parts, but we are doing other stuff as well.
  7. some really solid suggestions in here; thanks guys, I am strongly considering arranging some of these. Mia Fey is probably pretty doable as OCU as well, though the ending synth call and response part would be very difficult for us live i think, so that might have to be changed. The bass part might be a bit fast for Deia as well with a lot of the runs. We would probably want a keyboard player too, as some sections are basically piano only. Something to consider, but the theme is good and I like my arrangement of it a lot.
  8. i hope this project comes out! FF5 is contagious
  9. Nah, Darkesword didn't even bother to ask me, i had stuff written up weeks ago.
  10. happy birthday dude, super glad you came to mag, hope to see you again soon
  11. I wish i could too, but im not good enough yet. Season 5 though and it is on.
  12. I like all the ideas you crammed into the crannies. They should be renamed 'crammies' just for this mix, but I think that is too ahead of it's time. I think the piano is pretty mechanical, but the parts are nicely composed. A little humanization wouldn't hurt though; the super trill is the biggest offender to me. I am digging the SSH style sound with prominent synths and synth guitar; the sound is pretty solid, and the drum part is interesting and well-written; probably the highlight for me. Overall the piano needs a little touch-up, but otherwise I am grooving. It is close to the bar for me, but ultimately passes. Yes
  13. one level-up closer to being a full-fledged XPRT! great hanging with you at MAG, and I hope your birthday is XPRT-llent!
  14. Vinnie has covered this really well; the overall ideas and details are great, but the sequencing needs improvement and smoothing, and the 2 themes need to be slightly more related, even if there is just a return of a further-expanded on overworld theme. the marcato strings especially felt stiff and exposed to me, so I suggest taking a listen to those and doing what you can to improve them. I think that it's close as-is, but will need some extra polish to clear the bar. I look forward to a resubmission! No, please resubmit
  15. Nice filtering effects, I think overall the mix is a bit overhyped in the highs, but is balanced enough to work. It is a touch overcompressed, but things are audible enough on all fronts to be heard. The guitar solo was a bit overly stiff but otherwise sounded alright, and was a well written part. I think sonically it stays a bit too samey for a good deal of it, and having a bit more variety wouldn't hurt, especially for a 5:30ish long mix, and the repetition seems high. There seems to be some variation throughout, but it's always so pushed in the compressor, that it is difficult to mentally differentiate the nuances. I think this is really solid in a lot of ways, but needs the compression eased up on, as it is hurting the mix in a bunch of different ways. I would love to hear a resub, and maybe swap out a few instruments for shorter sections to give a new sonic palate a chance to mix it up. No, please resubmit

  17. pretty nice stuff, i was groovin! Good mix of source and original material and the production sounded pretty good. Yes
  18. Wow, definitely would not have considered this direction for the track. The theme is recognizable after a few listens, though the trumpet solo overshadows a lot of the source. The production is solid and feels really nice. I think the source use is obscured a good deal, but the chords come through strongly, and the more familiar i became with the source, the easier it was to hear the connections. I still think it's on the liberal side, but I am convinced there is enough of a connection to give this a Yes
