Do you prefer live music or studio recorded music?
Tensei replied to atmuh's topic in General Discussion
If you mean live as in going to a concert, then usually, yeah, especially if the band is known for being a great live band. If you mean a live recording, then no. The mix will usually be shittier, the instruments might be noticeably out of tune, and you won't really have the feeling of being there, which is what makes going to live shows so good. -
It wasn't Eternal Darkness, which was awesome for entirely different reasons. The sanity effects were so fourth-wall breaking that the game would randomly pretend to delete your save file, mess with your TVs volume control, reset, or even show a windows BSOD. Diablo 2 had a hardcore mode that wiped your character if you died.

That's me right here. The sun comes up somewhere between 5 and 6 AM I think. I have trouble getting up at 9, let alone before that. I totally would join in on this though.

Later man, we had some bad times but lots of good times as well, so good luck in your future endeavours.

This really takes circlejerking to a whole new level. (I'm jealous)

Key is to learn hotkeys/unit groups so you don't have to painstakingly find your command center/nexus/hatchery, click on it, move the mouse to the bottom right and click on the build worker button but instead you can just press "2s" to achieve the same thing. Having a set build order is a good idea as well. Most build orders you can find online are streamlined in such a fashion that they utilize every available resource to get your units out as fast as possible, and will account for almost every possible situation you could encounter.

Well, the mission is designed as an introduction for goliaths, so siege tanks really won't be that useful. Most groups in that mission consist of a shitton of void rays/scouts and only a few zealots/stalkers. You should give it a try once you get Vikings.
-
Yes. Also, about the Welcome To The Jungle mission. There might be some way to cheese it by floating your command center around and just bumrushing stuff with SCVs. One thing you can do is immediately secure the two nearest canisters on the left side at the start with your initial group of units and 2 SCVs, the protoss will send out 3 stalkers which is manageable with your goliaths/marines.

I always liked the PC/PS/Saturn versions best because the music was actual CD-quality. Seriously, the guitar solo in anything but tangerines is sexy as hell.

This mission made me switch from brutal to hard. It gets very, very annoying. In my experience the middle base is too well defended to do any kind of early rush (they have lots of cannons and a bunch of void rays up there), not to mention that it's very close to the droves of units that run around closing the nodes. I found that massing goliaths isn't that effective because you only have one base of gas, and goliaths are pretty pathetic in the face of stalkers. Mass marine/medic seems to be the way to go provided you can micro them out of psistorms. Fortunately the high templars are pretty rare in that level. Being FAST is the key here because the enemy starts spawning higher tier units as time goes by (more high templar/colossi).
-
Marines easily have the second highest DPS for minerals invested (first being zerglings), but they're also insanely durable in the campaign because of the imba medic upgrades you get. Online I can see them being a bit less effective because of the lack of medics, but you'd still need a shitload of AoE (Colossi, Siege Tanks) to counter them effectively. Last I checked, MMM (marine/marauder/medivac) was a pretty viable strat still.

I bought this game exclusively for the multiplayer but because I'm still region locked I'm slogging through singleplayer on the higher difficulties instead.

I think http://blip.tv/ is overall the best site in terms of video quality/length. (bleh dailymotion) Also, yeah, guidelines. Vimeo does not like Let's Plays.

Heroes of Newerth Thread 2: Electrician Boogaloo. Now Free to play!
Tensei replied to Tensei's topic in General Discussion
It's completely gone. You still get an option to kick people who are AFK though. -
There, I caved and bought it. Playing the campaign on brutal for the lulz and Multi-Building Select just fucks shit up. Who cares that all I can do is build marines and medics with the computer having hellions and siege tanks when I have 6+ rax running with no problem. So far the missions are still a crapshoot (like I predicted), but I really enjoy the characters and the stuff around it. I like this game for the wrong reasons.

I'm not gonna name any names, but someone who posted in this thread is trying to stir up IRC-related drama on the forums in like the least appropriate thread for it.
-
Amen to that. In a way I'm kinda happy that these forums have stayed relatively small because I know most frequent posters by name, so at the risk of sounding corny, it feels like one big family, especially compared to bigger forums I frequent. Even the drama and troll posts feel nicer here. :3 Keep on truckin' OCR

So I've recently had the pleasure to stumble across this nice little freeware MMO called World of Tanks. It's something like TF2/Counterstrike with WWII era tanks and an xp/gold grinding aspect. While the controls are extremely simple (you only need WSAD + mouse), the combat, damage model, and handling are quite realistic and indepth. It's currently in closed beta which means you need to fetch a beta key from somewhere (google), but the game is surprisingly polished for being in such an early state, with nice graphics to boot. The way the game works is that you're thrown into a team with 15 other guys (matchmaking is incredibly fast, thankfully) and your goal is to either destroy all tanks on the enemy team, or capture their base (capturing works exactly the same as control points in TF2). Tanks come in different classes and fulfill different roles on the battlefield. Currently only Soviet and German tanks are implemented (which is still more than enough, especially if you get to drive crazy prototypes like the Maus), but there's a shitton of content on the horizon (infantry, clan wars, American tanks), so if you're a bit of a tank buff or just looking for a nice, session-based action game (games typically don't take longer than 10 minutes), I can definitely recommend this game. Just keep in mind that you start with absolute crap tier tanks for both factions (Panzer I "Leichttraktor" for Germany and a T-18/MS-1 for the USSR), so you're not only slow as shit but you can't take any hits and you will probably get killed a lot. Before long you'll be able to upgrade to either slightly less shitty tanks, or get yourself a Self-Propelled Howitzer or a basic Tank Destroyer. There are so-called "recruit games" which restrict you to only tier 1 and 2 tanks, which can be a godsend since you won't have to face a King Tiger in your glorified tractor (though you will still get oneshotted by even the shit-tier artillery). Obligatory TF2 Class analogy: Light Tank - Scout: zips across the battlefield, scouts out enemy positions, circlestrafes the fuck out of tank destroyers/SPGs. Medium Tank - Soldier: the meat and potatoes of every team, still relatively fast, and able to hold it's own against most classes. Heavy Tank - Heavy: Usually able to withstand amazing amounts of punishment from lighter tanks, and oneshots most of them, but vulnerable to higher tier artillery/Tank destroyers because it's too slow to dodge shells. SPG/Artillery - Sniper/Demoman: Capable of laying down the hurt from a significant distance, and will probably ruin your life the first few times you play. Vulnerable to lighter tanks due to being turretless and having a mediocre turning speed. They require other tanks to scout out enemies for them. TD(Tank Destroyer) - Sniper/Spy: Pretty much turretless tanks with a bigger caliber gun and massive frontal armor. They also get a bonus to hiding/camouflage, but are weak to flanking. Some vids: Some random guy in a Tier 2 Soviet Tank Destroyer fucking shit up.

I've always been partial to Plumbers don't wear ties.

This game has a built-in custom combat music option (under audio options). I had this amazing moment earlier on insane difficulty where at the end of the second level we got off the elevator as everybody was getting mobbed by aliens and dying in slow-motion, with our tech making it to the saferoom with a sliver of health left, set to the slow, epic part of the MGS theme. Great game, possibly the best freeware I've played.

Again, thanks for the notes, I'll put up an improved version soonish. I think I need to clarify a bit on the games mechanics: I originally used 'farming' in the MMO sense of getting gold and items from killing monsters, but I suppose it isn't a term everyone is familiar with. This game operates on a principle similar to MMORPGs where you get gold for killing AI-controlled units, which in turn you can use to buy items that allow you to deal more damage, grant you more armor, etc. Getting gold faster than other players is a pretty significant advantage, so I kinda felt like pointing that out in the bio, but I'd rather not dedicate an entire paragraph to detailing the games mechanics. That's why I tried to use a concise, catch-all term for it. Maybe you have a better suggestion/synonym? (I'm not a native speaker)
